General Tools 75801 4-in-1 Pin Vise

I was hoping for a better product from General, but it’s just not as good as I was hoping. The fit of everything just doesn’t feel quality, and I was hoping the plastic know at the end of the handle would turn smoother as you hold it against your hand. While it does turn, it’s just a friction fit of plastic against plastic and doesn’t feel comfortable when you are drilling. The metal tip also feels like it’s grinding against the threads instead of screwing or unscrewing smoothly. While it will work for it’s intended purpose the quality is okay at best.

This pin vise is straight and true and easy to handle. After using it for a short while, I purchased another.

The top where the collets are stored is very difficult to pry off with out damaging the plastic. Once I did get it off the plastic was roughed up, making the handling of the vise uncomfortable.

It works just fine.

I purchased this on some online recommendations. It has a nice design, a good grip and I especially like the swivel on the top to make drilling easier. Where this unit fails is in the colletts that are included. These are critical as they determine what size bit you can hold. No where could I find a descriptor of what sizes these colletts would accept. Once I openend the package I could see the size of the openings on the colletts varied, two of them looked very large. Further testing shows that they handle very few small size drill bits. I had hoped to use a 2-56 tap and found there was not a collette to securely hold that size. I plan to return the item and look at Starrett brand pin vise. If you are looking for a vise that will handle small size bits, that is those in the .085 size, it would be best to look elsewhere.
