Accessible introduction to the biology, life cycle, natural history, and classification of moths Moths are a crucial insect group encompassing more than 160,000 species, and they are among the most ancient of Earth's inhabitants, with some fossils believed to be 190 million years old. This richly illustrated guide to their biology, evolution, and history demonstrates the incredible diversity of these winged insects and reveals the ruthless survival tactics used by some--including blood-sucking moths, cannibalism in the cocoon, and carnivorous caterpillars. The book also explores their extraordinary life cycle, charting development from egg to larva to cocoon to airborne adult, as well as the surprising variations of color and wing patterns that moths have evolved. Engaging narrative and specially commissioned photographs of moth specimens make Moths: A Complete Guide to Biology and Behavior a perfect gift book for scientists and science enthusiasts alike. Review: Amazing! - Bought this for my best friend who is OBSESSED with moths for her birthday, she loved it! Review: Finally an illustrated book just about moths. - I most liked that finally books exclusively about moths are available and this is a very nice addition as well. All too long mother were combined in books with their more popular and now classic relatives the butterflies. Now these books can focus more on the diversity of moths, as beauties in their own way as well as their astonishing diversity, ecology and evolution previously underappreciated by most. I liked the book use of colorful and detailed photographs and illustrations depicting various aspects of moth morphology and anatomy. Well done.

Lovely book for science-minded readers who want details.
Lovely book for nature-lovers curious about the private lives of moths. This is not a coffee-table book of big images and little information. Be prepared for a lot of details that will fascinate science-minded and curious readers.

Perfect for moth lover
My son is very interested in moths. He loves this moth only book. Hard to find a moth book with no butterflies.

Moths
This is a fascinating book on a topic that is rarely published for the general public. It is profusely illustrated with color photographs and deals with everything you would want to know about moths. I highly recommend it.

Fascinating
I am not trained in entomology, let alone sub specializing in moths. Nonetheless I spend a lot of time photographing the insects and arachnids in my neighborhood, trying to learn as much as I van about the underlying biology. The book is not a field guide for moth identification. However, it provides a wonderful look at all aspects of moth biology and their interaction with their environment. The photography provided a great insight into the beauty of these Lepidoptera, making me want to get outside even in the winter to see what I might find.

Great colour to the pictures
Knowledge is a great thing. To open one's mind is the food of life itself. Great book for those who want to go further into exploring new worlds. Never before have I thought that moths were both nectar feeders as well as chewers/ hunters. A very good read for inquiring minds of all ages. Go out and explore and mostly ( have fun ).
