Can the dim base light be turned off

The light round the edge stays on during the night I think its automatic from dusk till daylight unless you have another light on in the room. Its not a bright light, ours is plugged in on our landing & just lights the way along to the bathroom if needed in the night, not bright enough to disrupt sleep in my opinion. I think this is a very good product for its cost, detachable torch is also very useful.

The product details say "2 x aa batteries required" but also say "batteries required?: no", so which is correct?

I believe it has rechargeable batteries internally, for emergency use ( it comes on automatically during a power failure) but is plugged into the mains for normal use. Would highly recommend

I don't think there is a guarantee to be honest.

How long does the product last? I have had mine for between one and two years and it has suddenly stropped working,

My 1st one lasted 3 years, although if charged the torch part still works. Just bought a second one, thought they were good value. £10 originally, new one £17.99
