Across enemy lines in Arden, young rising star Captain Halston Matelon is being sent on ever more dangerous assignments. Great Read! Just as good as book 1.
This book 2 in the series didn't let me down, it was just as good as the first. I loved the characters and the intrigue of the plot. There were still multiple points of view showing us the events from every side. Our characters deal with battles, loss, love, music, and magics effects. There are pirates and dragons creating surprising twists.

Book 2 is done and it is AWESOME..... Now What? Six more months for book 2. Aaaaargh!
The second book in this series (Shattered Realms) which is set in the same world as the Seven Realms (although a few years later). The second book is somewhat concurrent with the first (meaning the event in this book happen at the same time or very nearly the same time than the first book) which means you won't see the main characters from the first book in this book.In addition, this book doesn't pick-up where the last one ended. So you want to know what happened to Ash or Lila I am sorry to say that you will not know at all in book two (yep you'll probably have to wait to book three or four?). Yet I still loved the book and forgot all about Ash and Lila and even Jenna. Good news you get to see Jenna and Flamecaster in this book but she's still not there much either. If you read book one (which if you haven't you should) you'll know immediately who the Shadowcaster is once you get to meet the character. I won't spoil it but again just like in the first book the central character of this book is not Shadowcaster although it is an origin story of sorts for Shadowcaster. It will also be obvious to you by now who Stormcaster is since you've already met him in book one and there is one scene with him in this book.My only negative comment about this book is that I finished it too quickly and now I have to wait six months for book 3? Aaaaaah Chimaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!Cinda Williams Chima is one of the most consistent authors out there. She is a good writer and the perfect mix of romance, violence, adventure, intrigue without getting bogged down with overly descriptive vocabulary.

Much better than the first
It’s not easy to collect my thoughts right after finishing this but it felt better than the first. In terms of story both books were good but in terms of handling emotions this one was so much improved! That would be my review summary. This part of the story frustratingly does not include Adrian. It’s hard to swallow, however it’s true. Jenna has a small part but again she is not the protagonist here.We follow Lyss, Andrew’s sister, who is leading a warband for fellsmarch. She is intriguing and extremely likable and has a proper non generic personality. She Carrie’s the book on her broad shoulders.Lyss is not the only protagonist. Hal, her opponent in the field is the gentleman from Arden and we like him too. He doesn’t have such a unique personality, however it’s good enough. He has his own troubles with Arden, but those pale to the troubles Alyssa brings to him.Bree is the third protagonist, special in many ways (don’t want to spoil anything). He is an interesting addition, certain to play a more important role in the future. One more likable character. The story is good enough to hold our interest firmly. Investing on personal relations, romance and drama usually pays off and it worked like a charm. This book packs everything: drama, romance, action, a bit of politics and an interesting cast of protagonists. What is missing? Well, Adrian for starters and a decent antagonist. Yes, Celestia is gonna get in those shoes but at the moment she has barely registered her presence. The big question id wether I’m reading the next. Well, yes. I don’t expect the best series of my life but it should be quite enjoyable to read

Loving this series
I was hooked with the first book and am now fully submersed in the second. Not wise to stand in my way to get to the third. This author is a new discovery for me. I absolutely will be reading her other series after this one. This plot is quite intricate and the characters are very likable. Most importantly the story is all, meaning the author is good enough to make me forget I'm reading at all.☺

She's terrific on voice
SHADOWCASTER is the second book in Chima's Shattered Realm series, which is a sequel to the Seven Realms series. All the POV characters so far are new and Chima brings them to life instantly. She's terrific on voice. Some of the events take place in the same time period as events in FLAMECASTER, but in a different part of the world. One of the consequences is that the reader sometimes knows what's happening better than the characters do because we've seen it from a different point of view. That could undercut tension, but it doesn't because Chima uses our knowledge to make us worry that characters will make the wrong decision. Also there are characters we want to meet one another whom she puts in the same place (in one case even in the same room), and they pass one another by.It's very well done.

Excellent!
Chima is such a wonderful writer. When she creates a world, she has committed to it. There is unique language even, that is used to seamlessly it doesn't feel made up. I admit this one was less of a favorite to me than Flamecaster, but only just a little. I still loved the characters and the plot, and the overarching plot. I'm excited to see what happens to the characters she's made me love!

É tão triste chegar no final.

Great story telling
I chose this rating because I like the carefully choreographed plot.Would've liked at least one chapter for Adrian sul'Han.

Lyss struggles to overcome the invasion of King Gerard Montaigne
Lyss is the daughter of the Queen of the Fellsian alliance, lieutenant and leader of the Gray Wolves arm of the Fellsian army, and heir apparent to her mother, the Queen. On the opposing side, Halston Matelon had been moving up rapidly but since his father’s vocal opposition to Gerard Montaigne he has been given a sacrificial assignment as an administrator of martial law in one of the conquered cities so that he is not leading an army when Montaigne takes his expected revenge against Halston’s father. After an attempted attack on Lyss’s life she decides to take her cohort on a winter attack on Delphi, a mining town they had recently lost to Montaigne. Flamecaster reappears with the munitions expert from the previous book. As various coalitions come together the traditional fight moves to new levels.
