Can you scan photos from scanner directly to a USB?

If you mean plugging a usb into the scanner, no. But you can adjust the resolution on your computer and then transfer them to a usb.

is it compatible with Mac system?

Yes, it is. I've been using it for 5 years with Mac 10.8.5, scanning both images and slides.
