TETON Sports Scout 3400 Internal Frame Backpack; High-Performance Backpack for Backpacking, Hiking, Camping

Hi everyone and thank you for reading my review. I want everyone to know I have a ton of packs in my shed and the only reason I purchased this is because of my skinny son and all of the other reviews from “scout” parents.First, I didn’t need this. But I did and here’s why.My son crossed over from cub scouts to Boy Scouts and needed a pack. Not 1 pack fit his waist. At the time, 23”. I preplanned a long time ago and purchased all these super cool ones. Nope: too big. My son is now a 26 1/2 waist (3 months after crossing over) and this pack fit him like butter to include the torso. I believe the website states the waist belt is 26” at the smallest, but I do think it goes as low as 25”. Completely sold on this element alone. For the price point and the size, not having to go woman’s bag or over $200 this is the right bag.Second, quality. The bag is decent quality. Not top of the line. Factor price point and what this bag has to offer for the average 11 year old learning values in life, this product is of excellent quality. Having said that: parents: upon arrival, pre check every thread, button, snap, drawstring, zipper prior to use. I’m just saying.Seller: you need to get with BSA and market this exact product for them. I’ve been a leader for 5 years and and a frequent shopper at the scout shops. We need products like this. At least give it a try.Just a slight FYI: for the boys out there who may have a mild dose of scoliosis or have not hit that 1 critical growth spurt yet-this is it. I’m NOT a doctor, but if you’re going to put a pack on you child-this is the one.I do see this pack lasting a long time in scouts based on quality and versatility. The straps are in the right places too!!! For a 55L pack, the exterior space is just as valuable. Thank you for such a well thought out product.Note: I did recieve this product in excellent packaging (excellent) but 1 button was damaged (manufacturing flaw). And I’m not exchanging it. I’m that impressed to still rate it 5 stars. And, you boosted my sons ego with this pack.Full disclosure: this is a scout mom review!!!! There is plenty of room for EVERYTHING to include the “mom care kit”.

Plenty of room. Able to fit a three litter hydro pack. It's comfortable easy to put on.

So far, I have taken this thing on a week long trip through India, where it was strapped to the back of a motorcycle as I rode through the himalayas (I'm not kidding here). It held up great and the rainfly was very useful and easy to put over it when it poured on us. The pack endured heavy strain as it was packed to the brim and strapped down hard every day and came out without a scratch (I was surprised about that).So far I've also used it on multiple hikes and hunting trips through thick brush and between 3 deer I've packed out over 200 lb of venison in the mountains in Utah and Washington. I've thrown it through the washer to clean out all of the blood and it came out like new.The only wear I've seen on mine is a couple of threads have loose on the bottom where it hides the rain fly, but it doesn't affect anything serious on the pack. It's already well outlived its price and It's got to have at least enough life to redo everything I've already done with it based on its current condition.Pros:Extremely durablegreat price (gives you more peace of mind when being rough with it)great size, perfect for carry-on (taken on around 10+ flights, never a problem)fairly light when emptyConvenient storage on top pouch with an underside zip up pocket for more protected items.Pretty comfortable, even when filled with 60+ pounds of meat.Holds Mountain Dew well.ConsI wish the waist fabric things were the smaller size, as I don't keep it buckled in very often and they get in the way if I forget to buckle them behind the pack.Did not come with delicious bacon.One of the drink holders is slightly smaller than the other, making it more effort to get my large size (in diameter) nalgene bottle in it. It still fits, but it's hard to put in one handed while its still on my back, the other pocket is easier like I said.The internal frame bars are hard to get back in, I washed it once with them in and took them out for a second wash, I wish I had left them in both times. I had to stick my hand on the inside and guide them past some material that was inside the frame pocket.

I purchased this backpack for my short section hikes of the Appalachian Trail and it performed very well. The shoulder strap assembly was adjustable to my shorter frame and it was generally very comfortable to carry. It's a smaller, narrower pack, but it held quite a bit of gear (see the picture). The narrow shape made it easier to squeeze through those tight spots on the trail. The sleeping bag compartment could hold either my Teton 20+ degree sleeping bag or my Texsport bivy tent. The compartments on the sides and top gave me easy access to things I needed on the trail (water purification, first aid, emergency supplies, etc.) and there were plenty of places to attach other gear like my sleeping pad. I wasn't super rough with it but it got some heavy use and it held up well. It is a solidly constructed piece of equipment, maybe a little small for a thru-hiker (unless you go light or ultralight) but for a weekend backpacker like me it was perfect. I highly recommend this product.

Wow, what a piece of junk. I bought this for my first 3 day hike, which, judging from the description, it should have been perfect for. I drove six hours to the smoky mountains, got out of my car, put the backpack on, and it broke.I guess this is a very low end backpack, marketed as quality. I did not even have that much weight in my backpack. Even though the return was free I was forced to pay UPS 10 dollars for a cardboard box to return it in due to its abnormal size and time constraints on the return.Could not find any way to contact the company, even though they make it seem like they will help you with whatever problems you have.

After a lot of research and an article from a mum who had bought one for her taller than average yet slender Scout, this seemed the perfect product for us as our son is very tall for his age but very slender and most makes don’t cater for the small hip size for the harness belt. The good thing is it is fully adjustable so it can grow with him. It also has a separate section for sleeping bag and loads of pockets for extra bits. We bought it for a week’s Scout camp in Snowdonia and he fitted all his clothing, kit, extra shoes and bedding inside, with room to spare! The integral water proof cover will also be useful when they start hiking with rucksacks. This is a sound investment of a quality product if you’re looking for longevity.

La maleta es de 50 litros que te permite guardar el equipo necesario para salir a realizar una caminata en la montaña, trae varias cintas para ajustar todo lo que cargas, la tela es bastante gruesa que te dar durabilidad y repelente el agua, aparte trae su cubierta para la lluvia, me agarro una fuerte lluvia con granizo en la zona de iztaccihuatl y no le entro nada de humedad a pesar de estar 2 horas bajo la lluvia, es compartimiento del slepping es para uno de 1 o 2 estaciones ya que si usas un slepping de alta montaña si le hace falta espacio, en los laterales trae resortes para poner los bastones de trekking. A pesar también de caer en un río no se mojo el interior. Se ajusta el tamaño de torso y cuando ya caminas las cintas hace un pequeño ruido pero no molesta, bolsos laterales son chicos que permite meter la botella de agua y cuesta trabajo sacar la botella mismo que te garantiza que no se te va a caer en medio del bosque

Love it! It's light, versatile and practical. Don't be put off by the color as I did before it arrived because this bag actually looks great. I love the fact it has a waterproof cover attached, it has a good number of pockets. It's 55L which is great for me - fits my tent, my small air bed, clothes, sleeping mat etc. Although if you looking to back pack with more then it might be worth looking at a 65L. Great product on first try.

realmente me deje llevar por la calificacion del producto y sus comentarios.. sin embargo no se si sea gente poco experimentada o no o que tantas mochilas de estas tengan.. en mi opinion personal el material de esta bolsa es muchisimo muy muy inferior a otras marcas que tengo.. ojo.. no se siente que se rompera en la primera usada.. pero por ejemplo no creo que dure tanto como mis deuter que con la mas vieja llevo increibles 9 años.. solo se ve decolorado el negro y no tiene ni una descosida..Quiza esta está en el rango de una vida util de a lo mucho 2 años cuidandola super super bien... en resumen no creo que compraria esta marca nuevamente. Tengo varios hikings planeados y si estoy equivocado y me sorprende subire la calificacion y actualizare la reseña.

Excellent product. My son and I were astounded at just how many secret pockets and areas there were to place his camping necessities! Fantastic quality and ideal for any budding scout.

Once set up for me this bag made carrying 10 kilos on my first 14 mile hike in years very easy

La compré para un viaje de 12 días. Únicamente incluí ropa y artículos de limpieza personal,pero es lo suficientemente amplia para guardar muchas cosas. Es muy cómoda y los arneses de ajuste ayudan a que el peso se distribuya muy bien. Un plus es que SE PUEDE LLEVAR COMO MALETA DE MANO EN AVIÓN, si no se rellena el compartimiento superior. Además de que es bonita y muy resistente. Recomiendo ampliamente.

Friggin nicest, most comfortable backpack I have ever seen let alone worn. This is so well designed, that I had three long looks at it and found somethings special each time. 100% wet proof. Has a complete rain cover inside the bottom compartment. The shoulder, and waist straps have so much padding that I'm blown away everytime I try it on. There is a padded lumbar "bump", ghat really pushed against your lower back making it ultra comfortable for people with lower back issues. The pouches, pockets, attachments, and straps, are too numerous to write about. Walking pole holder as well. And a purposely stiff rib along the spine for more support. Beautiful!!! Teton should put a satisfaction GUARANTEE on this pack. I think you would be to be , let's say, "untruthful", if you said this was unsatisfactory to you. May sound weird, but this is one of those things you own that you feel an attachment too. Like some of your rifles, or car, etc.🏕️

Muy buen producto, tal cual se menciona en la descripción. La usamos para un viaje a Europa y resistió en perfecto estado todo trenes, aviones, metros, camiones, etc. Por el precio y funcionalidad la recomiendo ampliamente.

Es una mochila muy efectiva, con su capacidad de almacenaje hasta 55 litros se puede empacar lo necesario para una excursion de campismo con una duracion 3-5 dependiendo lo que se lleve variando en clima, temporada, terreno, ecosistema y tipo de exursion.En la parte inferior de la mochila hay un compartimiento para almacenar un saco de dormir (sleeping bag), sin embargo este es muy chico apto para sacos de dormir (sleeping bag) compactos, si utiliza un saco de dormir (sleeping bag) voluminoso este no cabrá en el compartimiento pero este no es problema debido a que la tela que separa el compartimiento inferior del resto de la mochila se puede remover para empacar al gusto y antojo de uno. El interior de la mochila es cilindrico lo que le permite a uno empacar con libre disposicion y tiene la capacidad de incorporar una bolsa de agua (bolsa de hidratacion/camelbak/etc..) para mantenerse hidratado en el camino, sin embargo esto reducira la capacidad de almacentamiento de la mochila.En el exterior cuenta con bolsas a los lados que no ocupan volumen del interior de la mochila ni se ven afectados en su capacidad de almacenamiento por lo que se haya empacado dentro de la mochila, lo que lo hace perfecto para guardar cosas de facil acceso. Tambien cuenta en los lados con bolsas de maya que son perfectas para poner botellas de agua para mantenerse hidratado.En la parte frontal del producto hay una bolsa de malla que a pesar de ser util se ve muy afectada por lo que uno emcaque dentro de la mochila ya que esta no es expandible ni flexible, mientras mas uno emaque en el interior menos podra meten en la bolsa de malla.La mochila cuenta con cuerda elastica tanto en la parte frontal como superior, lo que es perfecto para guardar cosas para un facil acceso o que no quepan en el interior de la mochila, como zapatos y sudaderas o hasta ropa mojada. En la parte superior tambien cuentan con un pequeño compartimiento de almacenaje suficientemente grande para guardar un libro o un papel higenico.Finalmente en cuando al acomodo de la mochila, esta se siente muy comoda aunque un poco pesada debido a los materiales que utiliza y el aluminio dentro de la mochila que le da estructura fija, para ser honesto, tiene un respiracion media en la espalda, ni alta ni baja, tiene capacidad de ajustar las correas de pecho, hombros y cintura para una mejor montura en el portador. y cuenta en la parte inferior con una funda de mochila para cuando empieze a llover, cualidad que no se encuentra en la mayoria de las mochilas de este tipo.Para resumir es una mochila perfecta para aquellos individuos que disfruten de hacer campismo y senderismo de media semana (3-5 dias), que se encuentren en un nivel principiante o intermedio sin embargo si eres profecional o tienes años practicandolo no seria la opcion mas optima.

You seriously cannot beat the quality to price ratio of this bag. Both me next my friend bought this bag for our backpacking trip through Iceland and they both excelled superbly. At its heaviest, my bag was 40lbs with 2L of water. Bag has a lot of adjustment capabilities and it was relatively easy to find that sweet spot.Not that the bag claims to be super waterproof/resistant (with rain cover), but one downside which will lead me to upgrade to either a better rain cover or a new bag is that we got caught during a bad storm hiking up from Skogar to Thorsmork and although the main compartment exscaped realatovely unscathed, the sleeping bag pouch got soaked due to the way the cover fits around the bag (where the bag meets my back). Would a greater rain cover or more expensive bag solve this? Not sure actually, maybe a hiking poncho would have been the best option.Nonetheless, 5/5 I highly recommend.

Used it once, feels really stable on my back. Weight is nicely divided across my body, lots of space, lots of pockets, lots of settings. The only downsides is that the backpack is a little bit heavier than I thought. That's not that bad but if you're planning on backpacking for a long time or have to walk a long walk, the extra 3-4lbs from the backpack itself might be annoying in the long run. Another thing that annoyed me is that there is not a lot of air circulation between your back and the backpack. I guess it won't matter for colder backpacking days but in the summer it might be annoying. All and all I'm happy with this purchase, a well spent 70$.

Great camping pack! I use this for short 4-5 canoe trips. I have used this pack for 2 trips so far. This seems to be really good quality so far. The material and stitching is very nice, and the straps and foam on the back make this amazingly comfortable. It is a fairly compact pack, so this is ideal for 3-5 days depending on the amount of gear you bring. One note the bottom pouch, which I believe is intended to hold a sleeping bag, is quite small. I was unable to fit my sleeping bag inside, as mine is a bit to bulky. I ended up using this compartment to store my hammock and other gear.

Es la primera mochila de viaje que compro de este tipo y debo decir que me sorprende lo que ofrece por el precio. Es bastante cómoda y se puede ajustar a cualquier tipo de cuerpo, la ha usado mi hermana que es pequeña y tampoco tuvo inconvenientes. Se puede ajustar al largo de tu torso y es muy cómoda aunque la lleves llena y con un peso razonable, cabe perfectamente en la cabina superior de los aviones.

Le cabe de todo, es prácticamente liviana y compartimientos laterales muy accesibles al tenerla puesta. El hecho que viene con protector de lluvia le da un plus que agradecerán demasiado.Para un viaje de camping de 3-4 días es mas que excelente.
