Excellent colored pencil sharpener.
Excellent, EXCELLENT sharpener. I had a Derwent mini sharpener that I bought way back in 2019. It bit the dust just the other day and I can’t say anything about that. It did me well for THAT many years. I replaced it with this full sized sharpener, and so far, I believe I like it even better. It’s built a lot more study than I was expecting and I like that the shavings drawer doesn’t readily fall out when tipped. With the mini, I made a mess with my shavings more than once. 😬 I see many reviews talking about the table mount. I don’t use the table mount anyway, so it’s of no consequence to me. Derwent makes an excellent sharpener that gets colored pencils razor sharp. I’ve been a customer, like I said, since 2019, and have put my last sharpener through the wringer, lol. For that pencil sharpener to do a good job for going on seven years being regularly used, thats quality.

Derwent does it again!
Well, Derwent delivers once again. I love it when an item arrives and is better than what you expected. Now, I'm new to the art industry and am trying to learn as much as I can about getting the most bang for your buck. I mean, we are starving artists, aren't we? I honestly never knew that there were so many caviats to artist supplies. Why is it that you need a specialized sharpener for your colored pencils versus your charcoal pencils or you just plain every day #2 pencil? Well, it makes a BIG difference and don't even get me started on pastel pencils! I have found my niche in charcoal and pastels...I think. I'm pretty sure at least and after two serious breakages, I knew I had some research to do and I turned to my trusty ol' Derwent to point me in the right direction. I think I spent 9 hours watching video reviews and reading all I could about the best sharpener. I used electric prior to dipping my toe in the artist pond and now of course, I know that's a no-no in the industry. KUM has excellent hand helds which suffice for colored pencils and trusty 2s. But I need a sharp long tip for my charcoal and I don't want to drag out my exacto and buy a pencil stand. Not happening folks! After all was said and done, there were two pretty solid choices but knowing Derwent as I do, I opted to remain brand loyal...and I'm glad I did. This thing is solid. It's metal and not plastic The gripper holds the pencil so tightly that I can actually sharpen with just ONE HAND. And yes, that means that the table mount comes with the unit (Mitsubishi's does not) and is very tight and very solidly mounted. But the best thing is the point. It's beautiful and I love just staring at them. Now, for you colored pencil folks, this will still work great, you just don't sharpen as long, but in my new love for my graphites and charcoals, well, I am in heaven with the wonderfully long points. I've said up until now, my Derwent bag is my best buy in all of my art supplies; but this is a solid contender for that position. I just need more time to evaluate this baby, but after sharpening more than 50 pencils today, I am in puppy love with this wonderful sharpener!

First one star, then five stars, back down to one star. Very disappointing.
The first one I received was damaged and I had to return it. I was disappointed because I heard a lot of reviews for it from some of my favorite you-tube artists. Now that my replacement has arrived, quickly I might add, it works like a DREAM!!!!! I've never seen a pencil tip get so sharp. Even on my kid's cheap school pencils that usually break anytime they need to be sharpened, these, too, were sharpened like nothing I've ever seen before. I tried them on my expensive Faber-Castell and PrismaColors and worked like a dream. I'm glad I didn't give up after the first one. EDITED- unfortunately, after only a couple uses the entire mechanism that holds the sharpener in place on your desk no longer works. Making this more difficult to use when you have to use both hands. This is my second product as the first one was damaged. This one also seems to be damaged which now I’m beginning to think is not so random. It’s a fantastic sharpener. It will sharpen your pencils. But what is the point if you can’t even use it. I hope the manufactures take care of this problem as I know others have had the same issue.

Awesome Derwent Sharpener
At first when I received the pencil sharpener I was a bit frustrated and angry because it would not stay together sharpener kept falling apart, the handle would fall off and then it might sharpen one pencil but wouldn't sharpen another!… Then I figured it out, I got the sharpener put together the way it's supposed to be figured out when it wouldn't sharpen a pencil the blade was packed that's why it's so easy to take that handle off. So if you can come to grips with having to clean the blades once in a while then you will realize you have purchased the best sharpener ever!!!! I have never owned a pencil sharpener that sharpens a pencil without eating the pencil up! it just keeps sharpening that lead until you've got an inch long razor sharp point! It is unbelievable and I love it!!!

How economical this sharpener is in the long run.
I love this. sharpener. It gets a very sharp point in at most, four cranks of the handle. Especially if you use inexpensive pencils, you will save money. They need sharpening more often than higher cost pencils, but there is no wasted pencil like with an electric sharpener. I own 3 electrics, all expensive, and not one of them comes close to this one in efficiency, or extrordinary control I have with the Derwent. They live in the cupboard now. I don't use the clamp because I like to just keep the sharpener handy on the corner of my little workspace so I can move it where lI need it. I won't ever be using any other pencil sharpener. Why would I when this Derwent sharpener is perfect. It is very well made, and I am in complete control of how sharp I want my pencil to be. In my opinion it is the absolute best for all colored pencils.

Good sharp point for graphite.
The sharpener works great on graphite pencils rendering a long sharp point. I, however, wanted to use it on pastel pencils. The sharpener worked for a while but ceased to sharpen before I finished my 33x23" pastel painting. Pastel pencils are notorious for being difficult to sharpen. They were too much for this machine.

Kids are forever drawing and colouring so we use this daily at home. Comfortable to use, good quality and makes the pencils sharp, maybe a bit too sharp. Only sharpener you'd ever need.

I'm new to this adult colouring craze and love the idea but was not find the practice very enjoyable as the beautiful artist quality books are full of tiny details that the standard sharpen point on my Prismacolor Premier pencils were just to dull to do just is too. But supposedly their leads are too soft to sharpen to a fine point without breaking etc, etc ... So I bought Derwent's Studio 72 pencils as they're harder and came across this sharpener. I love my pencils but they are very natural colour pallet and my sister bought the Prismacolor Verythin, which leave you waiting more. On a whim I decided to sharpen a Prismacolor Premier to see what would happen and here's what I've learned. I LOVE THIS SHARPENER FOR THEM 1) They take a beautiful point and are much stronger than I was lead to believe 2) The fine point actually lays down colour better and with less pressure than their suggested point. You do have to be a little bit gentle but even if you over sharpen and press hard and the tip breaks off it is a nominal amount and you have lost nothing. I have now figured out the ideal sharpness for them and me. 3) I think in the long run you might actually save pencil ... it seems aggressive at first. But once I got the hang of it I found I wasn't losing and length of the core, it was mostly just the wood casing being drastically taken down and you don't need to sharpen again for a long time. I just touch up the point on some sandpaper and also as I colour I turn my pencil to keep the point. 4) Unlike with hard lead pencils which I tested it with, it will not stop once sharpened on coloured pencils and will chew through them. I have found that when starting from scratch that pulling out the carrier to a fingers width is perfect. Touch ups just need a few millimeters. 5) Not one lead has broken one me while sharpening or even if dropped. The device holds you pencil for you in these little jaws and gently shaves away the pencil... no twisting on the lead or changes in angles that will snap the core. 6) to maintain the life and sharpness the unit, it is recommended that every few sharpening to do a standard pencil as the graphite lubricates the blades and keeps it clean. 7) You can easily check/stop your progress before the carriage returns to a full stop just by opening the jaws and taking out your pencil. Insert it back into the holders without retracting the carrier (or just a wee bit more) a give it few more turns until you feel no resistance to get the final finish or it can have a leave rough patch. Only downside 1) we didn't find it sooner and save the unnecessary expense of the other pencils which don't match anyways in colour or performance 2) it does leave little dings on your pencils from the grippers but you don't feel them. And of course if you are looking for just regular pencils to be sharpened this thing is phenomenal! Where has it been all my life. Picture 1) shows just right, not enough, too much, standard tip not used Picture 2) carrier holding a pencil to be sharpened, this guide retracts as it sharpens your pencil evenly. You can control how much is sharpened by pulling it out desired length. Highly recommend this product! Seems very well made and should last with care for years to come. I've put it through its paces re point a set of 70 Derwent studio, and 132 Prismacolor Premier set, and most every pencil in my house without a hitch or broken core!

Pandemi zamanında aldık, hala kullanıyoruz. Bu marka sanatçıların tercihidir. Uçları uzun ve sivri çıkarıyor. Bileme falan da yapmadık, hala ilk günkü gibi açıyor kalemleri.

Great sharpener. Excellent for getting the most out of my inktense and polychromo’s. Can sharpen to a very fine long point. Works on all shape pencils although i don’t know if it would take a very thick pencil. It attaches well to my table and feels very secure. The container for the shavings is quite deep and as it sharpens finely it will hold a lot before it needs to be emptied and emptying it is as easy as just sliding the container out, emptying and sliding it back in. The sharpener itself feels sturdy and of good quality. It has a couple of levers at the top that adjust to hold a variety of pencil shapes and sizes and this part holds the pencil away from from the sharpening blades to allow it to sharpen to a finer point depending on what is needed.
