It’s interesting!
I had seen the Sally Fields movie years ago and wanted to read the book. It’s very detailed and explains things clearer than the movie did. Very good read!

Sybil
It is an incredible, unbelievable life story. Just thinking of what that poor woman endured in her young life, makes one wonder...what on earth?!!!...where was her mother? Unfortunately, her mother was the one abusing her. Sad! Disgusting!! Her little mind split into multiple personalities so as to be able to protect her from the trauma as it was happening. A daily ritual for her. It is also fascinating how our brain works to try to help protect us either by fragmenting into multiple personalities, or other ways such as repressed memories, dissociation. Unfortunately, this kind of extreme abuse is still happening, but to a greater degree. Now, there are services available to help and support those who have been, and those who are continuing to be, viciously traumatized. Be warned this book is extremely explicate, not for children.

Excellent book. Re reading.
Excellent book. Re reading. Last read 30 plus years ago. Read 5X's at that time. Sally Field did the best she could (Outstanding!) considering so many things had to be cut out bc of fear of shock for the audience. Sadly since that time have learned SRA Victims are numbering in the Millions due to MKULTRA & Monarch, and other, secret experiments on very young children and adults (usually military) throughout the world. Truly, truly, sad what our children have had to endure thru the millennia. Babylon never died. It just went underground (quite literally in Many cases!). And the Great Awakening has only just begun! Ready your hearts

Engaging Story
I lived reading this book as a teen. In fact, I binged on all the multiple personality disorder (now a new term, but is what it was called at the time) books back then. My teen daughter started asking me about the disorder just the other day and I said, "Darling, do I have books for you!"

Sybil
My only criticism would have to be how ugly the cover is to this book. Back in high school during AP pyschology I vividly remember watching this movie and falling asleep then awaking suddenly to Sally Field being hung from a lamp and raped with light bulbs by her mother. 6 years later reading the book really took the edge off of that blinding image and I am no longer scared of SF. Through the many, make that sixteen, faces of Sybil, the extreme nuances of every person can be found. After around 80 pages, the difference between schizophrenia and your early twenties is blurred. In fact, the descriptions of Sybil's blackouts seem eerily similar to those one might encounter after too much drink. Regardless, the book is a great read especially if you are fascinated/scared by abnormal psychology and/or Sally Field's role in the movie.

Best book I have read so far
This book is a very heart felt book. It describes a lady name Sybil, that battled with multiple personalities. She was abused by her mother that had schizophrenia, and a father that was never there to witness it. Sybil had to deal with 16 different personalities and a past that she could not let go of, because it was so bad.I really liked this book because it showed me how sick are world can be. It showed me that some kids are not as fortunate as others are in the world.I really recommend that people read this book and watch the movie, the movie was just as good as the book was. You got to actually see how Sybil suffered from her disorder, and how her mother abused her. it gives vague details like the book but the book gives just a little bit more information. I really think that people should read this book so that they get the emotional and heart warming feelings i got.

Gripping Story
This was/is a good read and its a very true story after watching the movie that starred sally feild i wanted to pursue the story even further as we all know the books to any movie always has more depth as it goes past the ratio of a 2hour movie which i think this film was longer than most~This is a riviting look inside the life of one young childs survival out of madness only to discover her own and who she dealt w/things concerning such~Watch the film it will give you insight about the many charectors Sybil had in her little head~then read the book~You will enjoy this
