Yes, it's as good as everyone says
Yep, all the 5 star reviews have it right: this workout (or series of workouts) is as impressive, challenging, and effective as they say. The ironic thing is, I wasn't even planning to embark on a workout challenge when I came across this DVD. I happened to see a "before/after" review from someone on Pinterest. The pics the user included showing her before and after body caught my eye and totally had me sold within minutes. (And like I said, I wasn't even looking for a new workout at the time - it was THAT impressive.) Here's what makes this series awesome: 1) As a busy full-time working mom of a 21 month old, I couldn't be more thankful that this workout can be done in only 24 minutes a day. TWENTY-FOUR (24!?) minutes a day to a better body? You bet. The way Jillian designed the workouts is genius. Even in Level 1 (the "easiest" but by no means "easy" level), you're working multiple muscle groups and/or doing cardio at the same time. As Jillian notes throughout the series, that concentrated focus on more than one muscle area at the same time(large and small muscles - like legs with arms) allows you to get it all done and burn more calories in less time. Who has more time to waste doing easier (but longer) workouts that won't even be as effective? Do this one and save yourself the time. 2) The series includes 3 progressively challenging workout routines. You only do 1 routine per day, but as long as you've worked your way up to Level 3 and are ready for any of the levels (that will indeed take you some time to do) you are then free to switch around to any of the 3 workouts depending on your mood for the day. You get bored of one routine, or are ready to move to a harder level, you can move on and the other 2 workouts are there for your choosing. Unless you're already very fit, it's unlikely that you'll want to jump right to Level 3, but now that I've done all 3 levels I super-appreciate the ability to pick which one I want to do from day to day. 3) Each level is challenging in its own way - you're not going to find any of the levels easy (again unless you're already super-fit, but even Jillian and her "best girls" are struggling on some of these moves, so maybe if you're more fit than them?!) 4) The workouts deliver. I think the marketing materials I've read for the series actually says "lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days" - well, that's not a realistic goal for everyone, unless perhaps you are quite overweight to begin with. But if you do have that much to lose, then I can see how this series would help you do it. What really impresses me with this series is NOT the weight loss piece (I've lost about 4 pounds so far and I'm on day 22), but the strength and tone I'm getting from these workouts. I did my measurements on Day 1 and have been measuring every 5 days since then. I've definitely lost inches in places where it counts - waist, hips, thighs. I also noticed my slightly previously-emerging double chin is no more and my face is thinner! :) (I tend to lose weight in my face and bust first.) I also just FEEL more fit in general. I started feeling great after the first few (rough) days. 5) Jillian gives the perfect mix of "tough love" and "encouragement." Just when you feel like you're going to die and feel like you're being pushed too hard, she says something that reminds you why you're doing it (just as an example, at one point she reminds you how much nicer it will be to go jeans shopping when you're more in shape), and it seriously helps put your focus back on the positives instead of how GOSH DARN HARD you're working. It's still tough, but those little reminders take the proverbial edge off for sure. 6) Totally based on my own experience for this one, but people noticed a change in me after using this DVD for just a few days. I have a job that I am only in the office a few days a month. The last time I went in and saw the people I work with, 3 people told me how great I looked and asked what I had been doing. At that point, I had only been using this DVD for about 7 days. Based on the on-the-spot testimonial I gave to each of them, 2 ended up writing down the name of the DVD and planned to buy it. 7) It's UNDER SEVEN BUCKS! I have never before purchased a better workout for less money, or even close to it. Clearly there's a lot that I like about this DVD. Now for the few things I don't (minor.) 1) I have neck problems - was treated awhile back for a herniated disc in my neck and still have pain related to that injury. Although Jillian has one of her "girls" showing modifications to the workout for almost every move, she doesn't specifically tell you how to modify if you have common complaints like neck or back issues. Some of the modifications work out fine, but a couple of them still give me trouble and I kind of just end up suffering through and hoping I don't hurt myself (I suppose I could not do those particular moves, but with a 24 minute workout you don't really want to cut out too much - as Jillian says throughout.) So minor point, but important to be aware of if you have any serious injuries that you may be concerned about aggravating. 2) Jillian has two women who workout behind her - one shows the modified move, the other one shows the advanced move. What bugs me about the advanced version of some of the moves is that even the woman demonstrating them can't make it through some without breaking or stopping or modifying her pose briefly. I can surely understand that, since the advanced moves are SERIOUSLY HARD, but if the person on the DVD can't even do it who's supposed to serve as motivation for where you'll get eventually, it can be kind of demotivating - "if she can't do it - how can I??!" 3) Just remembered how much I hate that you can't fast forward through the introduction. So even if you've seen it 30 times already you have to watch the whole intro which takes about 3 minutes or so. Really annoying when it's not part of the workout and you are just ready to get to the workout! Aside from those 3 (minor in the scheme of things) negatives, I clearly LOVE this series and will continue doing it even after the 30 days are over. I want to keep my new-found strength and tone, and that's not going to happen if I only do this for 30 days then quit. FIVE STARS AND FULLY RECOMMEND THIS DVD, provided you are ready for a tough and effective workout that's going to make you BURN and SWEAT!

Review from a PT - FANTASTIC workout!
I'm a physical therapist, so I know how to work out, but I use home fitness DVDs a few times a week because sometimes I need motivation from someone else. I'm very critical of these workouts though; there are only a handful of instructors who I think teach with good form and cueing. This was my first Jillian Michaels DVD and she is absolutely on that short list - great instructor! THE INSTRUCTION: Jillian and her two friends all have excellent form on every single exercise. I appreciate this because the girl who shows the modified moves (Anita) is very fit and does the moves perfectly - this is important for a beginner to watch! (I hate when the most unfit person on the DVD shows the modifications - that does the true beginner no favors.) I enjoy Jillian's no-nonsense style of motivation - she gives it to you straight ("You don't get abs like this for free", "You can't rest during a 20 minute workout and expect results", etc) but she's not scream-y or drill instructor-y. She explains her 3-2-1 philosophy clearly (more on that in a bit) and she's absolutely right that combining strength with cardio is the most efficient way to work out. She's also right that you can't take a break in such a short workout, but don't take that tooooo literally.... I do take 5 second breaks between circuits to sip water. All in all she is tough, but she knows what she's talking about. THE FORMAT: There are 3 self-contained 20-minute workouts. Each one follows this format: 1 minute of warm up, three different 6-minute 3-2-1 circuits, 1 minute of cool down. The 3-2-1 circuits are: 3 minutes of strength using hand weights(30 seconds of a 'serious' exercise + 60 seconds of a compound - legs and arms - exercise, twice through) + 2 minutes of cardio (30 seconds of cardio + 30 seconds of another cardio, twice through) + 1 minute of abs on the floor. The 3 20-minute workouts are designed to progress you through different levels of fitness: start with level one for a few weeks, then level 2, then level 3. In my opinion, this is a well-designed and and very time-efficient way to workout, and it moves along at a nice pace that doesn't get boring. Two things I love about the self-contained workouts (as opposed to mix-and-match style): 1- You don't have to choose between toning and cardio, one workout has both, and 2- Once you are bored with Level One, you don't just keep doing it with add-ons to do Level Two... you have a whole new workout to do. THE EXERCISES: The strength moves are basic and effective. I like that they are separate from the cardio moves (you put your weights down for cardio and abs - except in one circuit of level 3) because that's safer for your joints. They include exercises like (a variety of)push-ups, rows, bicep curls, flys, chest presses, etc, and the 'compound' moves combine upper body exercises (like the bicep curls) with squats and lunges to keep bigger muscle groups working and fat burning. If you're strong, you could use some heavier dumbbells here because the instruction is excellent and the moves are controlled and safe. The cardio starts out as moderate impact - jumping jacks, butt kicks and the like. Jillian does not show low impact modifications here because she wants people to push themselves. I agree, to a point. But people with bad knees or backs, in my opinion, should stick with low impact versions of these moves. (If this is the case for you, I would caution you not to do this DVD if you have never exercised before. Take some classes or do some DVDs that do show low impact modifications - then you can modify Jillian's moves yourself.) In levels 2 and 3 Jillian makes the cardio more intense - including plyometrics (jumping) like squat thrusts and 'mountain climbers'. For these more advanced moves, she does have Anita show modifications. The abs workouts are nothing new (crunches, reverse curls, leg lifts, bicycles, etc) but are all effective and well-demonstrated. WHO CAN DO THIS DVD: Level 1 is actually what I would consider an Intermediate level workout. Beginners can do it as long as they use no or light weights to start, and as long as anyone with bad knees or backs modifies the cardio to be low impact. Level 2 is solidly Intermediate - a tough, intense workout that is not for beginners. Level 3 is Advanced, though an intermediate level exerciser could do it if they follow Anita's modifications. A very advanced exerciser may want to do level 2 and level 3 back to back. As far as coordination levels, all the moves are basic and well-explained.... nothing fancy here and anyone should be able to follow this. If you're looking for something dancy - look elsewhere. BOTTOM LINE: Three well-put together and intense workouts, very well instructed and demonstrated. Something for almost anyone - unless you are brand new to exercising.

Great workout that can be modified to fit your needs
I read the other reviews before buying this DVD of Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I bought it anyway because you can't always go by reviews and I'm glad I did. First off, I will say, If you have not ever worked out before or had a regular exercise regime of any type, I would suggest you do as I am doing and instead of planning to lose the weight in 1 month and do all 3 levels in 1 month, split it up and plan 1 level a month for 3 months. Before buying this video, I had been doing minimal exercise so know my body needs conditioned first. While I do want to lose weight, I realize that I can't just expect my body to be able to jump right in there after it has not had any type of conditioning to exercise, so decided to take it slow. Instead of doing this every day, I try to do it 3 to 5 times a week and take a day off as needed (if my muscles hurt too much I take a day off or if I simply don't have time, it is ok to take the day off). I decided to try to complete 1 level to the point that I could start out with the easy, modified way (the girl on the right) until I could build my body up to follow the harder, full range way (the girl on the left). Once my body is conditioned to do the workout to the maximum on level 1, then and only then will I move to level 2. I plan this to take me 3 months instead of 1 month to complete and then after that, i can focus on doing each level every day of the week and completing all 3 in 1 months time (month 4). Losing weight is important, but conditioning is the first thing one has to do and that is important to know your limitations as well. As for the reviews about this being bad for the knees....if is not bad for your knees if you are listening to Jillian and doing as she says and she makes it very clear what posture you should not have in order to not damage your knees. I have a very weak knee from an injury, and I am finding that doing this workout at a slower modified pace and stretching level 1 out to 1 month instead of 1 week, and following everything Jillian says about how to position the knees so as not to hurt them, my weak knee is actually being strengthened. I have been doing this workout for 2 weeks now and I am noticing a huge difference in my endurance and strength as well as my overall physical well-being. I am also sleeping better, eating healthier, and living happier. I may not be losing the 20 lbs in 1 month that one would lose if they did this every day and did 1 full level at the hardest directions every week, but that will come in time. Something people tend to forget is that when you do a video like this, it is ok to modify where needed for yourself until you build up your body endurance and strength to do the workout with Jillian and the girls. You don't have to be just like them. Do it at your own pace, modifying where you need to, not modifying where you don't need to and in time, you will be able to keep up with them and go the whole way through with no problem. We live in a day and age where everyone wants everything right now. Workouts are not something you want to have that attitude with if you want them to be successful for you. Great video with lots of workout 'suggestions' and help. I also got the Ripped in 30 days to do after I complete this video, but I believe doing both will take me probably 9 months to a year to get up to par and be able to keep up with them all. And for me, while I do need to lose some weight, I will along the way and so it is all ok to take my time. Thanks, Jillian, for making an affordable workout video that gets me up and moving and started toward a healthier lifestyle.

Jillian is an Awesome Trainer and I Love This DVD!
Years ago, I enjoyed working out to Billy Blanks' Tae Bo videos but my main form of exercise was going for brisk walks. I live in Wisconsin where at least four months out of the year, we are pretty much quarantined inside because of the cold so going for walks doesn't work out most of the time. I really had gotten out of shape and needed to lose weight when a friend of mine said she uses Jillian Michaels' DVDs to workout. I had never used one of hers before but figured it couldn't hurt to give it a try. I searched quite a bit and decided to try the 30-Day Shred since it seemed like a popular choice. Jillian Michaels is a fitness trainer and people may recognize her from her coaching on the show, The Biggest Loser. The 30-Day Shred consists of three different workouts which increase in intensity and use her 3-2-1 Interval System. Each workout is 20 minutes long with a two-minute warm-up before the workout and a two-minute cool down after the workout. There is a tiny break between each exercise so you can get in position and so Jillian can explain the exercise so the entire workout will take about 27 minutes total with the warm-up and cool down. Each 20-minute workout consists of three of the 3-2-1 circuits (all exercises are different so you won't get bored). For anyone who doesn't know this system (since I didn't before I got this DVD), there are three minutes of strength exercises followed by two minutes of cardio exercises followed by one minute of abs exercises. Once you complete the first circuit, you will start with the second circuit. The exercises get a bit harder as you progress in the workout but you get warmed up and used to them. There are three levels of workouts: levels one, two and three. Level one is the easiest but isn't considered "easy" by any means. I've been using this DVD for at least a few days every week and I'm on level two, which is still difficult but I'm getting better at it. To get the most benefit from the workout, you will want to purchase some hand weights. I am using three-pound weights which is what I started with and it's tough! If you are new to working out, I would start with a lower weight. If you are working out on a hard surface, you will also want to buy a yoga/exercise mat. Let me tell you, this DVD has been AMAZING so far! The first time I did it just under three months ago, I looked at the TV and thought "Are you kidding me????" because it was tough. I won't lie about that. A week later, I decided to try it again and it was a bit easier since I was somewhat familiar with the exercises. I discovered how much I enjoy the exercises and the feeling I get after an intense workout! There is such a variety of exercises that you won't likely get bored unless you feel it's time to move up to the next level, which is how I knew I was ready to try level two. I even get excited when I know I'm going to use this DVD! Jillian is very motivating and she will push you, which is a good thing. She jokes around with the girls who workout behind her. One girl will do the modified versions for beginners and one will do the advanced versions. Jillian does a great job pointing out the differences and explaining how to do the exercises so you are doing them correctly and getting the most out of the workout. I bought this DVD about two-and-a-half months ago and I've already lost 21 pounds! I use this DVD typically three or four times a week, along with eating healthy, and even walking outside when it's nice out. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished and I have Jillian Michaels to thank for designing an awesome workout system! I've told many of my friends that I use these DVDs and some of them have purchased them as well. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, I think you will enjoy this DVD and I highly recommend it!

I support this dvd fully!
Its been quite some time since I last did this workout...(I just repurchased because of how my first time using it went!) So let me give you a bit of background. Please stay with me...the extra information is quite a bit, but I feel that it counts toward the review's final say! Hope it helps! (Back in 2008) My first time using it, I was about 25 pounds over my allowable weight. I had a lot of "icky" stuff going on in my life and I was overeating...plus I was national guard working at the MEPS, an active duty location. Weight was VERY important. So I had to get it together! I purchased the book first and then read some reviews about this dvd so I purchased it. IT WAS OUTSTANDING. I am always up for a challenge, this was more or less my home workout gateway. It was short enough for me not to get bored...it was challenging to the point where I started competing against myself, but not overly so where one would become discouraged. SO...I can say that there is a good balance when it comes to this dvd. The recipes in the book and the written guidance helped me with my diet as well. I dropped that 25 pounds plus a few more and then I was motivated to start running. I paired this dvd with my running and my body was nicely toned!(seriously...I looked better than I did in high school...and I had a 4 year old at the time!) Eventually I graduated beyond this dvd and was able to take what I learned in the dvd and other things I picked up along the way regarding fitness to keep my body at my target weight. (In 2010) I was injured overseas in a rocket attack that among quite a few injuries took a large chunk of muscle out of my right thigh. During the healing process I was only able to do Jillian's Yoga Meltdown dvd which was another great buy...(I recommend that!) It was the start for me to get back on my feet I was back to running about 7-8 months after my injury. After that I was able to go back to my fitness knowledge to maintain my body. (are you seeing a pattern yet?!) (In 2011-2012) During my recent pregnancy I was unable to work out because of the physical pain I was in due to my previous trauma injuries. Now I am recovering from a hernia repair....I will be cleared to exercise in 2 more weeks. (In...NOW) SO...here I am today about 5 months postpartum and 2 weeks away from medical release (to exercise) and I purchased her dvd yet again. (I loaned it to a friend when I "graduated" to other fitness options and never got it back OR I would TOTALLY still have it. I won't be loaning this baby out again!!!!-lesson learned) I SAID ALL THAT TO SAY: Jillian's workout methods WORK. As long as you remain determined, push through, do it those 5-6 times a week(basically remain consistent), and make some changes to your diet...the weight can be lost! I like her because she promotes not accepting excuses. The exercises target the key areas and ramp up your heart rate when you really put your ALL into it. A person only gets out what they put in! This is a great starter dvd for someone looking to get their body on point. It's not intimidating or boring. I have done P90X and during my deployment I did some of the Insanity workout(before I got hurt) and those workouts ARE GREAT AS WELL...BUT may be intimidating or scary to someone that is just starting, trying to ease back into working out, or have injuries that prohibit them from doing the exercises fully even WITH the modifications. Even though Jillian Michaels has a lot of Plyo(jump training) in her workouts...there is a way to modify if necessary and still reap the benefits especially if coupled with other methods of fitness. This dvd is one that should remain in your collection. It has been a doorway for me when most needed while providing me with basic knowledge of what makes noticeable change in my body. Don't compare it to Insanity or P90X...those workouts are in their own separate category. I mean beachbody alone (the company those fall under) are in a category of their own...so just give Jillian her credit where it is do! SOOOOO I believe you should just press the button. You know which button Im talking about right? The buy/purchase button. PUT IT IN YOUR CART!!! I'm serious!!! Just do it...give it a go. NOW GO GET FIT!!!! :-)

YOU WILL CRY WHEN YOU FINISH (OR MAYBE DURING) THIS WORKOUT!
You will cry (or want to) when you finish this workout! Why? Because, first, it's a TOUGH workout! Second, because you will regret all the time you spent NOT working out because you couldn't find the time or motivation! Third, because you wasted money on a gym membership that you really didn't use. And fourth, out of sheer RELIEF that you CAN get a great workout in only 20 minutes (30 if you include warm-up and stretching) a day, and SEE results QUICKLY!! I used to LOVE spending 1-2 hours at the gym, mountain-biking, etc., and worked out hard for half of my life, so I do NOT come from a place of never having worked hard! But life intervenes, and between a tough and irregular work schedule followed by becoming a mom, working out went by the wayside, and I HATED that I just couldn't seem to fit what I considered a "real" workout (cardio followed by a regimen of weight-training) into my life! So my body, while still thin, slowly got softer (and flabbier) and less fit (yuck). I USED to think that watching a DVD to train was for wusses, people who had no idea how to train and no motivation! Obviously I lost MY motivation, so I thought I'd try this, since I'd seen her on TV and liked her style (she's not one of those bouncy, sickeningly-cheery women you want to punch in the face, like so many workout video queens!) and since this DVD got such tremendous reviews! During the first workout, I was tired after only the warm-up (you mean we haven't worked out yet?!?), and stood in the shower afterwards STILL feeling beat-up and tired! After doing this daily for only a few days, I could feel the difference in my endurance and SEE the difference in my upper body (lower body's a lot harder to fix!) and FEEL it in my lower body! Less than two weeks later (having only missed 3 days), I'm feeling great and more confident and my husband is commenting on how my body is (as he put it) "transforming"! Although the workout's tough, I look forward to doing it every day, and even get up EARLY so I can get it in before my day starts (and I'm NOT a morning person!)! I'm still only on Level 1 but TRIED Level 2 yesterday and could BARELY make it through (I was literally gasping!), so back to Level 1 for now, which, as I said, is still great and tough and generating results! FOR ALL OF YOU MOMS (AND ANYONE ELSE) WHO THINK YOU HAVE NO TIME, SPEND THE $9 - YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Update (6 mos later): Unfortunately, took some time off and just started again a few weeks ago - just as tough as it was initially, and again just as rewarding. Husband just did it with me today and he could only do the "modified" versions of some of the exercises - and HE works out 3-4 times per week for 1-1.5 hrs, doing not only heavy weights but also about 45 minutes of cardio (and, like me, has exercised religiously for most of his life, with breaks here and there during particularly stressful and busy times)! But he easily admitted that THIS workout is TOUGH, and intends to keep doing it (along with his other training)! If HE finds it tough (because, as Jillian says, "There is no rest. I want you moving the entire time. You don't get to do a 20-minute workout and rest."), I DARE OTHER MEN TO GIVE A "GIRLY" (HA!) WORKOUT A TRY TO SEE IF THEY CAN HANDLE IT!!

This DVD has CHANGED MY LIFE - Incredible!!!
Throughout my life, I have been in and out of reasonable shape (exercising somewhat regularly in an ongoing battle with weight). I did gain a good bit of weight just before getting pregnant with my first child at age 38. My pregnancy was terrific and I only gained 25 pounds, although due to my starting weight I got very big and the back strain was difficult. After my son was born (a very difficult delivery), I lost my pregnancy weight fast (within 2 weeks), but was left at my pre-pregnancy weight (plenty to lose) and in a lot of pain. My son is now 6 months old, and after the initial couple of months of post-partum "recovery," I have tried to get back into working out to lose weight. The extra weight has hijacked my life - stealing enjoyment of my son, wreaking havoc on my self esteem, and affecting all areas of my life. Most disturbing has been chronic back pain. Since my 3rd trimester, my back has been screaming in pain from the moment I wake up and throughout the day. Now, even picking up my son has been difficult, depending on the position, and sitting down with him to nurse in a chair sometimes causes so much pain on the way to sitting position that I have cried out. My efforts to work out have been sabotaged by my back pain, and although I have been able to get into a walking routine (once I get moving, I'm ok), the aftermath back pain has been horrible. I had just about come to the conclusion that having a baby has simply ruined my body and that I was doomed to suffer with this back pain indefinitely. The compelling event was that my husband and I are going on a trip at the end of April with his work colleagues. Sun and sand, what would have formerly been a dream, is now a dread due to my weight and discomfort. I had to do something. Through a stroke of luck more than anything, I landed on your exercise DVDs on Amazon, and I was struck by the overwhelming positive response for your 30-Day Shred DVD - over NINE HUNDRED people are singing your praises!!! As a new mom, I don't have a lot of time to fit in exercise during the day, and by evening, I'm too exhausted to even THINK about exercising. So the 22-minute end-to-end commitment was enticing, too. I figured that I can do pretty much anything for 22 minutes, right? I received the DVD on Monday and started the workout on Tuesday morning when my son went down for his morning nap. That workout kicked my butt. Which is no surprise because I'm heavy and struggling to get back into shape. I was SORE SORE SORE by Tuesday afternoon, but Wednesday and Thursday mornings I stuck to it each morning. Wednesday I was still extremely sore, but by Thursday night I was a little less sore. Progress! On Friday morning, I woke up without back pain. WITHOUT PAIN. Normally when you have a headache, it often seems to go away without fanfare, but my back pain is no headache. Believe me, I NOTICED. I got out of bed without sharp pain, was able to go to the bathroom without wincing in pain on the way to "sit" (sorry if this is TMI), and carried my son down a flight of stairs with confidence that my back was not going to "give out" with sharp pain. I cannot believe it - I am absolutely overwhelmed with the idea that I might actually get my LIFE back. After only FOUR DAYS of working out, I feel better than I have in MONTHS. In fact, I told my husband that I honestly can't remember the last time I felt SO GREAT. My posture is better, I feel better emotionally, and I am SO READY to stick with this program for the remainder of the 30 days (which is when our trip starts) and BEYOND. I already eat very healthfully, so this might just have been the missing link. I went into this program with the goal of quick weight loss, but no matter what the scale says, I honestly feel that I have already reaped more benefit than "just that." I am stronger already and I feel like I have my life back. THANK GOD. This workout is incredible. I am sooooo thankful that I started this program - it is really going to CHANGE MY LIFE. THANK YOU JILLIAN!

Trying Not To Judge Prematurely, But...
I ordered this DVD over a year ago and didn't really start using it until six days ago. For reference, I am somewhere between 5'5" and 5'6" and about 190 - 195 pounds, 25-years-old, and female. Every single day for the past six days, I have been using this DVD at level 1. I have asthma and a heart problem, but I push through it - the only thing I do differently is that, because of the stress on my knees, I don't do the last circuit of jumping jacks... I run in place instead. I sweat. I push through the pain. I grit my teeth and bear it when my muscles feel like jello. So yes, I would say the workouts and pretty challenging and that's a great aspect of the DVD. I can't even imagine what levels 2 and 3 will be like. However, in six days, I've seen literally NO results. I have been following a low-GI meal plan (no white foods, nothing high in sugar, nothing processed), as well as no sodas, no red meats, no fast food, etc. for a few months too. As far as I know, I'm doing everything right - but not a single inch, half inch, or pound lost. It's very discouraging to put in the kind of effort that I am with no results! The clever little claim of this DVD is that you can lose "UP TO 20 pounds in 30 days!", meaning that you might not lose anything at all, or just one pound, but there's a potential for a 20-pound loss somehwere in there. After nearly a week, I don't see how that could be possible. Indeed, after reading the reviews, I am seeing a distinct lack of posts that include any type of weight loss or measurable progress; very few include the words, "It's been X days and I've lost X pounds/inches!" This is very telling to me and causes me to suspect that, for all the effort, the payoff may not be to scale (pun not intended). I work 40 - 50 hours per week and have a four-year-old daughter. I also do the majority of the cooking in the household to ensure that my diet remains intact. Thusly, 26 minutes is about all I have on a daily basis to work out. If the intention of using this DVD is to do multiple workouts throughout the day, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the, "30-Day Shred in Just 20 Minutes" selling point? Additionally, if you are going to demand that I not take a break for "any longer than five seconds" and that "If I'm going to promise you big results in a small amount of time, I can't let you take a break during these twenty minutes," then why should I assume I should be doing these workouts more than once per day? That seems very misleading to me. I also agree with the other viewers - this is hell on your knees/ankles, ESPECIALLY if you are overweight. Jillian also seems to have a very unfortunate focus on the legs in this DVD. There's little to do with the arms and abs. Most of the workouts are centered almost solely on the legs - even the ab workouts. There's running in place/buttkicks, jumping rope, jumping jacks, transverse abdominal crunches (lifting the legs to crunch the lower abdomen), lunges, squats, bicycle crunches, sideways lunges... all of these place attention almost exclusively on the legs. For abs, there's only traditional crunches and oblique crunches. For arms, there's only push ups and another move where you lie on your back, extend your arms to the sides holding weights, and bring them over your chest, then back down again. The "dumbbell press" forces you to squat, focusing mostly on your legs, even though it's supposedly an arm exercise, and the punches portion also forces you to squat. You'll definitely feel the burn in your legs, NOT your arms. In fact, I've had no soreness in my arms at all since using this DVD, only my legs - not even my abs. Something else I really disliked about the DVD is that they tell you "don't take a break." To me, this is borderline ignorant. It encourages dehydration, and for people who are overweight, not taking a break can cause a number of problems. No, you don't need to sit down, but come on - I can't even take thirty seconds for a drink or to catch my breath? A lot of people subscribe to the "no water" method of working out and that's preposterous, in my opinion. I watch my roommate do this with my DVD and he couldn't finish. He started vomiting violently for about half an hour. Some people see this as some kind of victory, but I see it as dangerous dehydration, and it offers NO incentive to continue on - I mean, why would you do something that's going to make you feel dizzy, nauseous, and vomit for half an hour afterwards? I'm sure that Jillian doesn't promote injuring yourself in ANY way during a work out, as evidence by her attention to stretching and proper form, but she should have at least made it clear that you NEED to keep hydrated before, DURING, and after your workout - and made accommodations for this. As for positives, yes, this is an absolutely challenging DVD, and I've seen an increase in my endurance. I feel healthier and I do enjoy the personal satisfaction of knowing that I can do it. Jillian is very encouraging during the process and I do appreciate her personality. Another reviewer said she curses during levels 1 and 2 - I haven't heard it, but maybe I'm so focused on the moves that I've turned it out. She's been very motivational, in my opinion, and very down-to-earth. I dislike excessive perkiness and appreciate Jililan's, "I know this is hard, but you *can* do it, and you deserve this." I cannot speak for levels 2 or 3. They may be more diverse than what I have described above, and I do like that I have the option of moving up in level once level 1 becomes too routine for me. However, I am still disappointed by the lack of results and what I feel is a promise this DVD cannot keep. I'll update this review once I've completed the first thirty days. For reference, I will spend 10 days on each level, so once I hit level 2 I'll add my additional thoughts.

Top Empfehlung - authentisch & sympatisch
