Onyx Professional Stop the Bite Nail Biting Prevention Polish, 0.5 Fl Oz

TLDR - It works very well. Will make you more mindful about where you place your fingers and you will stop with minimal effort. I have been biting my nails for my entire life over 30 years and this product works on the first application. The taste is quite awful and is so powerful if you even touch your nails to your lips. It does linger for a long time as well, reminding you that you placed your nails near your mouth. Taste is similar to gasoline and burning electrical wires. Super nasty. I have tried other similar products and I am not sure if it's just me or the product, but they didn't seem to be that strong or taste that bad and I would eventually bite right through it. I have been placing this on for over a month and haven't bit since the first application. My nails are getting their "White Tips" which I honestly don't know if I have ever seen before. I feel more confident about my appearance than I have ever had in my life and I am not trying to hide my nails while meeting with people. It's such a simple product and yet has a profound effect on my life. I wanted to include a few pointers for success that I have found helpful for anyone starting out. - Don't use too much per application. I found that if you wipe the brush on the rim of the bottle to remove excess polish, you can still get a good application and this will cut down to the polish transferring into handheld foods (I like pizza so this was a big lesson) -Wear gloves if you are prepping food. If you do some baking (I like making bread and kneed dough) or anything with direct contact to food, wear gloves to protect your food from contamination. -Make the application of your nail polish routine for best results. If you want to have the best success, apply once every 1-2 days to make sure the taste stays strong. For me, I found that applying the polish right after the shower makes it routine. Find out what makes sense for your routine. Hope this motivates you to give it a try and kick a nasty habit!

Does taste gross, yes. My kid hates it but it works. I make a habit of applying every other evening after bath time. I did apply a clear holo glitter topper under the clear coat of this lacquer. I added a cuticle oil dropper to help dry / cure even quicker. Six-year-olds wait for no one. One thing of note is that the probelle bottle has a paddle wider brush versus the skinny brushes of the Onyx stop the bite lacquer. So i would say that this is best for adult fingernails as child small nail beds do better with the skinny brush. Both probelle and onyx performed equally similar. They both needed reapplication every other day, pretty standard for one coat on a kid who plays hard. And they both taste awful as designed. One thing that I do is I help my kid put on disposable gloves before meal times, helps to eat finger foods while wearing the lacquer.

Works very well! I'm still a habitual nail-biter but its been cut down! I wish there was a little more in the bottle though... It's not perfect, as anything I touch would have that same bitter taste for a few hours, even after my nails were dry... it would also impact my other nail polish by making it chip off faster? It's a good product and id get it again but I'd rather just have hangnails at this point.

Works exactly as intended leaves my nails shiny, dries quickly, the coating isn't obnoxiously thick and also doesn't leave residue on anything you eat as other brands I've purchased will make my food taste horrible. It's extremely durable as when I tried to get it off even with nail polish remover it took hours of scrubbing and it still had residue left over so for any stubborn nail chewers I highly recommend this.

So so happy with this polish. I have been biting my nails since approximately 2010 and have never been able to quit. Nothing helps! Press on nails fell off too quickly (or I bit them off), and other polishes would easily wash off or weren’t enough of a deterrent for me not to bite. Some polishes were “spicy” but didn’t really make me stop biting my nails. THIS STUFF changed the game! It is BITTER — and I like bitter stuff usually! This is a different kind of bitter. And it STAYS in your mouth too. If I accidentally put my nail up to my mouth and then kiss my husband 10 minutes later, he can taste it too. It definitely works well. I also like that it dries super quickly (20 seconds?) and the polish lasts for days! After many hand washes it doesn’t come off and the taste lasts! I haven’t had an issue with the taste transferring to hand-held foods like some people seem to say. Love this product.

I can only give this product three stars, and here’s why. I bought Onyx Professional Stop the Bite to help my two sons (ages 9 and 12) stop biting their nails. For some reason, since we moved to the U.S., nail biting at school has become a real issue — almost like an epidemic. I was really hoping this product would help both of them break this harmful habit. The results, however, were very mixed. For my older son, it worked almost instantly. After just a couple of days, he stopped biting his nails completely. I could immediately see the difference — his nails started to grow, and now I trim them every week. But for my younger son, unfortunately, it did not work. I apply it exactly as instructed, but he still comes home from school every day with bitten nails. So in his case, the product simply didn’t help at all. Another thing to mention is that the smell is very strong and quite unpleasant. Because of this inconsistency — helping one child while having zero effect on the other — I can’t say the product is 100% effective. It may work great for some kids, but others might continue the habit despite using it.

I have been biting my nails for my entire life (almost 36 years) and it has been so bad that I would also bite the skin around my nails and my cuticles too until my fingers were bleeding and hurt so bad :( I have been self conscious about my nails and being in a high volume sales job constantly think about them and whether or not my customers have noticed how bad they looked... Well, once my little boy has started picking up the terrible nail biting habit too, I had finally had enough and figured I would get serious about trying to stop. I had this stuff in my Amazon Cart for 2 months before I purchased it... I was very worried about the reviews saying it ruins food if you touch it, or eat finger food with your hands after applying this polish... I finally told myself too bad, it's a small price to pay if it works and I bought it. I put it on the day it came in the mail and I will say it was an IMMEDIATE change for me. I have been using it for 6 days now and I cannot believe how it has already rewired my nail biting behavior. I couldn't look back on any exact moment when I was nail biting, it was completely subconscious until it was too late and the damage was done... Now, the second I even put my finger near my mouth, it reminds me to immediately stop because it is BITTER! After only 6 days so far I notice a huge difference in my nails and confidence. I have more nails already than I may have ever had since I can remember! I wish I did this years ago, I cannot believe the difference already and I am actually excited to see what my hands will look like in a couple weeks! The polish does get pretty glossy after multiple coats, but I don't care about glossy fingernails if they aren't going to be chewed down to nubs anymore. If you have been thinking about it, just order this and do it! Best $10 I have ever spent.

Tastes terrible, currently going on day 5 with no biting which is HUGE for me. 1. I apply morning and night, I keep it on my nightstand 2. It does create inconvenience for things such as flossing and eating finger foods. (Fans of eating a rotisserie chicken over the sink - beware...) I have actually purchased plastic gloves for tasks like these, it's worth it for my goals but may not be for you. 3. The taste lingers, and dude it SUCKS so I'll give it that. 4. Makes my nails shiny, and dries quickly. It is easy to pick off if that is a problem for you but I would bet that the taste will still linger until your next application. I am going to come back and give an update of progress pics. Hopefully...

I have bitten my nails for about 20 years, started as a habit when I was very young. Decided to try this product as I was tired of my nails looking ragged and horrible all the time. This product is fantastic at cutting your habit. I am 1 week in, using this product twice a day, and not bitten my nails at all. I would bite subconciously when I was on the computer or watching a movie and now, this product reminds me to stop whenever i bite. It tastes absolutely FOUL, which is the point of the product, but it is seriously nasty and the chemical taste lingers for a while. The only problem is that this can transfer onto foods you are eating with your hands, like a packet of crisps or slice of toast, so you need to be careful. Also, if you put this stuff on your nails, you NEED to remove it after each day of use, as the potency drops off considerably after around 6 hours, and putting layers over layers of this stuff on your nails looks pretty nasty. Removes very easily with nail varnish remover. All in all, wonderful product that I am confident will curb my habit.

Great 👌 within one month I stops biting my nails, the main reason is I paid 1000₹ above for this, so 😂may be that mind set also helped me.. and the taste is really disgusting 🥲I can’t even have food with my bear hand. 🥺I had to eat by spoon and forks 🍴 so this product helped me in many ways, many times, at many places ❤️ mom said she was having stomach pain something after having food. I don't usually write reviews but decided to for this product because of it's effectiveness. My 3 year old has been sucking her left thumb since birth to the point where a small bump developed on that digit. Also, the dentist indicated that her thumb sucking could affect her teeth, even if she does not have her permanent ones yet, and further research revealed that it could lead to speech problems, she already couldn't pronounce "spoon" properly, it sounded like "stone", not sure if that may have just been due to her age. I looked up the chemicals in this product and most seem to be naturally occurring, if not exactly benign, but I was mainly looking for any reference to carcinogens, which I did not see, so I ordered a bottle which arrived within 2 weeks. We applied it to her thumb nail, she thought it was nail polish. When she put the thumb into her mouth, she started complaining, more like a fake cry, and asked for water. When that didn't help, she put a paper towel in her mouth for perhaps 30 minutes. I put some on my nail to try it, and although it's unappealing, a combination of bitter and pungent, I thought that she may overcome her distaste. She did not suck her thumb for the rest of the first day and only tried to suck it once on the second day. I think she tried on day 3, but mostly out of reflex. Surprisingly, she has stopped and we've not had to reapply since the second week.
