Simple and Works no Juice Jacking here ;) bdv
Pros: I like the price and fact that the red makes these stand out. With my Garmin there has always been a problem when connecting to a car that the car rather than just giving power to the device would try to connect. This eliminates that problem. Now with rental cars I've switched to Google Navigation and I like that this isolates power only to your usb device, and that way my phone is safe from a USB Virus attack from a rental car. The peace of mind of being able to plug into any USB JACK and just get power only is priceless. CONS: These are easy to loose either to theft or just putting in a drawer and forgetting which one. Yes I'd buy these again, and just did as didn't want to spend time looking, Also I'd recommend them to friends. bdv

Great Tool for Finnicky USB Devices (old Garmins) and Defeating Fast Charge Protocols
Great for devices that will freak out or change modes when they detect *any* data communication -- the red one has a charge protocol detection chip which is useful when securely charging high-draw modern devices, but useless for diagnostic purposes or legacy devices. This adapter is a fantastic way to use standard mini USB leads with devices running the older GarminOS based on an unknown embedded OS (used as recently as the DriveSmart 50, many still run current maps with a microSD setup). These devices give no choice to simply charge if a data connection is detected and block out the UI in PC Connection mode. Newer Linux-based ones (like DriveSmart 65) now have a prompt and will work as expected with the red adapter in a secure charging scenario, or bare lead for normal use. Since USB-A luckily tops out at 2.4A under most cases, even the red one will charge modern devices at a sane rate, but for devices with low standby draw that can trickle charge at 500mA this is useful to defeat fast charging protocols for debugging or increased battery life. The red one should still be safe even if your device uses Qualcomm BatteryKiller 3.0 because of it visibly having no upstream data pins to the charger required to enable fast-charge combinations that are unacceptable for everyday use. In this context this (clear) one is good if you're paranoid, or it's a rare device where the [email protected] provided by the USB BC 1.2 standard is too much .

Performance of Course Varies by Device
The 3rd-generation PortaPow Data Blocker generally does as claimed, allowing many devices to charge (or operate and charge) without risk of data transfer and likely at better than the mere 500 mA rate allowed by older USB ports. Yet you must avoid overexpecting. USB charging has become a surprisingly complex situation over the years, with various only partially-compatible standards vying for prominence. Given the complexity, the PortaPow manages to likely provide a.) charging instead of nothing and b.) for advanced devices sporting high-rate charge capability, some charge rate _between_ the maximum the device would negotiate with a compatible charger and the mere 500 mA of original USB. To check the above, I selected a Quick Charge 2.0 compatible phone for which I already had various charge rate data and compared those data to observations using the PortaPow Data Blocker. With the phone starting somewhat below half charge, charge rates via a PortaPow Data Blocker from a "Smart 2.4 A" USB port and a Quick Charge 3.0 port were a bit below and a bit above 30 %pt/hr (percentage points per hour), respectively. Good, but of course less than the 56 %pt/hr I've observed with direct connection to a Quick Charge 2.0 charger. Charge rate through the PortaPow data blocker proved similar to wireless charging of the same phone. For another view, I collected a range of Garmin GPS units and observed simple usability. Garmin Nuvi models tend to switch to data transfer mode when connected to anything that seems unlike a Garmin power cable. This prevents user operation unless one works around that tendency (some models will time out and restart in operation mode, the simplest workaround). With the PortaPow data blocker between a notebook computer and each Garmin, only the oldest, a Nuvi 200W, switched to data transfer mode; all the later models I checked simply continued operating as usual. So, if you want a handy way to operate your Garmin Nuvi GPS from external power without being in a vehicle, the PortaPow data blocker may do the job without the bulk of an additional Garmin-specific charger. You'll lack traffic reception, of course, unless using a smartphone for that. Charging performance of Garmin Nuvi models through a Portapow Data Blocker may be more interesting. Recent models reported "Suspend" or "Unknown" as their input current limit setting, while an older model reported 1 A. Starting near half charge and operating your individual unit for a while via a PortaPow Data Blocker would be the way to assess whether it charges (adequately) or at least doesn't discharge while you're operating it.

Isolates USB data and let's power only pass through so I can safely charge my phone at venue charging stations and the like. Now my phone is safe from data STDs. :)

Perfect for dashcam.
This is the only data blocker I was able to use with my webcam to keep it connected via USB in my car. Extremely happy with it. Since it came with 2, I've got one in my to-go bag so I can be comfortable charging my phone whenever I come across a public charging station.

Works, but not as advertised
So it does what I wanted it to do. It cuts off data transfer which is what I was looking for. The downside (and it's a pretty annoying one) is that it DOES NOT allow fast charging as described on the product page. It specifically says there's supposed to be a chip inside that allows it to detect and send the correct signal to fast charge. It does not allow fast charge on my Samsung device. Using my normal USB charger without this plugged in, I get a full charge in about and hour from 15% battery. With this data blocker, it takes over 3 hours to charge the same phone from the same level.

excellent adapter to thwart data transmission over unknown USB ports
I wish I knew about these devices sooner. I always set my cell phone to power only or would use a wireless charger where I would go but having this is another nice alternative to give you a USB charging connection without worrying on data being transmitted to your phone or have the phone transmit data to a receiving device. The data blocker works fantastic with samsung quick charging and is great to help assure you are not transmitting data by having the missing data pins on the port so you know it's impossible for it to transmit. The only recommendation I would give to the manufacturer for this would be to possibly have a tiny loop on the side where you can put a keyring on it to help keep it safe so you don't lose it easily but I wouldn't have a problem with it since it's bright red to grab your attention. Just something for thought that's all.

Data blocker that does exactly that. Very good product
If you are still not sure about the product, I can safely say it works. It's a data blocker. Adapter which only lets through the power, but no data. Don't buy it and then complain how your devices cannot connect. It is literally made to block any data from going through. It's not immediately visible on product photos, but have a look at the attached picture. Red arrow points at a small window where you can see that only power pins are there, and data pins are completely missing. Green arrow shows that on the other side (where you usually connect your devices to charge) data pins are soldered together. To many devices this is a clear signal that the connected accessory is a pure charger, so they don't even attempt data connections. Physical quality is also very good. Everything seems solid and very well made. From few seconds of googling, I can see it's a small UK based company which makes these for many years already. That gave me confidence to order, but when the product arrived, I did my own measurements which only proved what's already obvious through the transparent casing. Top item - does exactly what it says. I'd be happy to buy again, but I don't need more :)
