Great carnivorous plant soil
This is amazing soil very fresh not Clump together the package is sealed well I have boughten for bags so far and will continue to buy the soil it is the perfect mix hey I just a little bit more sand for my butterworts other than that I use it to grow pitcher plants butterwort and flytraps even germinating seeds in it great stuff to the person that said it's full of Styrofoam do a little research that's not Styrofoam it's a special lava rock with no minerals that is to help aerate and assist in soil drainage try squeezing it with your fingers it's hard like a lava rock not squishy like Styrofoam I will buy again

Good so far, but read reviews and research your plant before buying!
My venus fly trap has been doing really well after i repotted it from the original nursery pot. Few things to take into consideration: The soil mix is peat based. It's great for water/moisture retention, which is what this plant needs (consistently wet/moist soil) but hard to work with. BEFORE you pot your plant, ADD WATER and mix the soil so that it absorbs the water. This can take some time, but once thoroughly wet, you shouldn't have any issues with the water sitting on the soil and not draining. Do not repot your plant with dry soil! Do the research on carnivorous plants and understand some important things: 1. Unless your tap water is free of chlorine and chemicals don't use tap to water it. I highly recommend distilled water or rain water (which is non-existent in CA). 2. These plants have a heavy water requirement and it is recommended that you bottom water it. Not to say you can't top water, as long as you pre-moistened the soil. Carnivorous plants typically come from really wet and boggy environments. For the amount of soil you get, this is pretty expensive. I don't know if I would rebuy given that perlite and peat moss is easy to find where I live, but for the time being, I'm really happy with the results.

must the soil to help absorb
this product works just fine and has been perfect for my plants. i know there are a lot of negative reviews about the soil being hydrophobic but before you pot your plants it helps to mist the soil with distilled water. my soil absorbed water immediately after misting it and iโve had no problems. itโs common for moss mixtures in dry soil to repel water at first.

Great product
My nepenthes has been struggling due to being in too small a pot so I decided to give this soil a try. For the it doesn't hold moisture crowd you have to mix in some long fiber sphagnum moss like I've done here in a net basket. The moss will stay wet and hold the soil in the middle in place.

I'm satisfied.
My venus fly trap loved this mix. It's been 6 days, so far so good. No problems with it holding the water on top like some people said. I did add distilled water to the bottom first but it wasn't soaking it up so I poured it on top and it's fine. It is very powdery and dry when you first get it but that prevents mold growing in it. It was just the right amount I needed for a 8 in. wide 4 in. Deep pot. It's already growing a lot more since repotting it. We get a lot of fruit flies and since we've had this I haven't been seeing nearly as many. Maybe 1 or 2 a week.

Pros & Cons. Almost got all stars til second order.
Good: I previously ordered this product due to my Sundew plants started to die. I was waiting to see how they turned out before I left my review. As you can see, my plants are not only thriving, one is getting ready to have flowers. Very happy with the product. One hint; soak the soil in distilled water and mix well, make sure there is no clumps before adding to pots. I have not had any problems. Dislike: I would have gave all stars but dislike my second order. Soil still good, but my first order, I got a big bag. Enough to repot several of my sundews and to plant babies ones. My second order, was a very small bag. I might have enough to do one more small plant, which I used half to repot my Venus fly trap.

Buy it!
This stuff is AMAZING! I'm a new carnivorous plant owner and had no clue what I was doing. After a bit of research, I realized my new plants would need specialized soil. After some searching, I found this and gave it a go. No regrets! Both my venus fly trap and my pitcher plant are growing amazingly well! I'm so excited! Thanks for such a great product!

Happy little flytrap
I was given a venus flytrap at the end of March, as a surprise present. I did research, and chose this potting mix because I only needed a bit. Stoll, ever since I gave it ample room in a large enough self-watering planter, with the right potting medium, my plant has grown and flourished, and seems quite happy. I have plenty left for the future, but would very much recommend.
