FDW6568-U Glass Mesh 6 inches by 75-Feet Wall Repair Fabric/Self Adhesive, White

This is my go-to repair product for smaller holes (up to about 4") in plaster or drywall. I place the mesh over the hole, apply 5 minute setting powder mud, wait till the mud is almost fully set up and indent the mesh so that it doesn't show when I'm done, and then apply a second coat to bring it flush. This method doesn't require the use of any wall board to make the repair and is perfect for filling in old electrical boxes without having to actually remove the old box and create more collateral damage. I also use it for tile work as a reinforcing mesh for seams in showers (especially alcoves) and at floor/wall junctions to reduce the tendency for grout cracking when I'm using tiles instead of base molding. Standard 2" mesh is too narrow to be useful in such a setting. In tile work, I recommend the use of "RedGard" liquid vinyl waterproofer/isolation membrane with glass mesh such as this for trouble free joints. Just apply the mesh and paint on the RedGard. Much faster and cleaner than taping joints with mortar or mastic.
