The Taste Isn't For Everyone...That's Fine, More For Me!
I've purchased this before, in smaller quantities, the sample size, which I highly recommend the first time you try this. Having said that, I have elevated this to be a staple in my life now. I won't ever be without it. It's a cup of coffee in a stick of gum! Not the taste of coffee, but the caffeine effect. Here's why it's actually better than coffee: 1) It is absorbed through the mouth, so it hits your system faster 2) It's cheaper than Starbucks 3) It doubles as a breath freshener 3) Tested by the military, for the military. (Send you soldier or sailor some in a care-package!) 4) No need to tip the waitress, 5) Less messy when you put the leftovers it in your pocket (5 sticks to a package). Here's why it's worse than a cup of coffee: 1) You won't get to talk to that cute waitress 2) You won't get to gaze into the eyes of that girl you're meeting, 3) You don't get the enjoyment of stirring your cream and sugar and watching the color change 4) You can't discuss business ideas over a stick of gum 5) Its weird to ask a friend out for a piece of gum. I was so distressed when I couldn't find this online, I actually tracked down and emailed the company asking what the supply problem was. Turns out it was a packaging equipment failure...they couldn't wrap it up to sell. Of course I offered to come over and help fix the equipment right away, but they politely declined. What they did do, however, was to send me a couple of samples (along with some Big League Chew gum which they also make) to help me get through the shortage. They didn't have to do that, I was already a raving fan, but I'm even more so now. And, for the record, I purchased a tray of each flavor so that I won't run out again...I usually chew a stick every afternoon when that dip in energy starts around 2-3 pm. It really does shift my productivity and alertness back up, but without the crash later you get from sugary energy drinks. I originally got this to use working snow removal during snowstorms...when I often couldn't leave to get coffee, or there wasn't anyone open to get it. I probably gave out half of the first tray I bought to co-workers and friends. I always keep some with me. Please note that there is a bit of a strong taste sort of "in the middle" when you're chewing it after a minute...my guess is that is the caffeine kicking in. I don't mind it, but some more delicate paletes might. Get the smaller sample first and send it to me if you don't like it, I'll chew it! ;) If you're a prepper, then you certainly need this for your bug-out bag...when the adrenalin starts to fade, or if you need to push on to escape the apocalypse, this will help you do the job. If you want something to barter, this might work well too. And I will acknowledge there are other caffeine products on Amazon, but I'm not into taking a caffeine pill, and the other gums had less, some significantly less caffeine, which meant it would cost more and I'd have to chew more to get the same results. I found the best, I don't need to experiment. One caution: READ the label. Follow the recommended number of sticks in the time frame. I've never had any issues...but I can see someone getting sick from being foolish and chewing 400 pieces at once. Buy all you want, Ive already got mine!

I'm on my 5th box...
I work full time. I go to grad school full time. I like caffeine. This is caffeine. All the pros and cons of caffeine obviously apply to this gum. There are some additional pluses and minuses in this form, though. (+) This seems to work faster than other forms of caffeine, probably because it begins to absorb through the mouth instead of waiting for it to get to the digestive tract. (+) Simply the act of chewing any gum seems to help me stay alert and focus. Yes, this could be achieved by consuming another form of caffeine and having non-caffeinated gum... but I like the efficiency of this approach. (-) Unfortunately, using this too often (~5+ pieces per day for a few days) seems to make my mouth slightly tender. I try to mitigate this slightly by drinking a lot of water with it, but sometimes I have to switch to other forms of caffeine to give my mouth a break. I've given pieces to coworkers and classmates, and they all agree that it really works. Most people dislike the taste, but no one has hated it enough to spit it out right away. I actually like the flavor of the arctic mint and the spearmint is okay. The cinnamon flavor is STRONG, but most brands of cinnamon gum are strong, so you might like it if you like that sort of flavor. If you've tried this back when the gum was circular, note that the recipe was improved when they switched to a more rectangular geometry. The gum is now softer and seems to stay fresh longer. Some hints for improving the boost you get from this: - Take a vitamin B complex with it, and you'll essentially have a cheap form of "5-Hour Energy." (Yes, I know that 5-Hour Energy has other ingredients, too... but most of the effect is simply due to the vitamin B with the caffeine.) - Drink lots of water while chewing this gum, since lack of hydration can cause fatigue. This is especially important since caffeine negatively affects the body's hydration, and the gum (unlike soda or coffee) doesn't contain water. - Chew half a piece at a time (50 mg), twice as often. This helps even out the energy. For some people, a half piece might be all you need. A half piece provides a little more than a soda worth of caffeine. - To prevent my body from becoming totally dependent on caffeine, I avoid caffeine on the weekends. I also go off of caffeine completely for a week every couple of months. This helps the caffeine work better when I really need it.

Gerat Caffeine Source
I'm the type of person who uses caffeine as a drug to stay focused. My friend, who was former military, gave me a pack of these to try. Let me just say that the military money gets results! This was fact acting, small, and cheap. It works out to about $0.25 a cup of coffee- each gum has 100mg caffeine (5 pieces per packet, 24 packs per box). This destroys any other caffeinated products I've ever tried- it beats coffee for price and ease of use. It beats jolt gum cause it has 6x the amount of caffeine jolt does. It beats energy drinks because they are so expensive and loaded with TONS of sugar. These things are extremely portable- just carry in your pocket (they were meant for military!). Great for law enforcement to have in the war bag to stay awake in the field when you are stuck on a call or stakeout. A friend who is in vet school loves these cause they have to stay alert and study so much. To be honest, you don't buy stuff like this for taste. The first minute of these things you just taste the sugar and flavoring, but after that the bitter taste of the caffeine starts to be come apparent. The taste comes out slowly at first, and never completely overpowering, but anyone chewing this just to enjoy gum, and not as a tool to stay awake, would never chose this gum over any other gum in the world for flavor. That being said, the taste isn't terrible. I've had all 5 flavors. The Cinnamon is the worst, and unless you are a fan of big red or gum like that I would avoid it (I don't like Cinnamon flavor). IMO, the Spearmint flavor tastes the best at first (only slightly better than Arctic Mint), but then the caffeine is more noticeable with Spearmint in the end than with Arctic Mint flavor. Overall, if you are going for the best overall flavor experience I chose Arctic Mint. I cannot recommend these enough.

Great for study all nighters or morning shifts
I really like this as an alternative to coffee, primarily because I want to make an effort at minimizing the amount of staining I do to my teeth. I also don't like the taste of coffee and don't want to drink energy drinks loaded with sugars and other chemicals. The caffeine from this gum works on you very fast. However, If you are mentally tired if will not work so well. And taking more tablets to "break" mental tiredness does not work out as you think it would. It only made me jittery and physically energetic. Sometimes it would break my focus when studying if I took two tablets at the same time. The gum tastes bad the first few times, but then it grows on you. You start to get used to it because your body wants the caffeine and the sugar in the gum satisfies the tastebuds. The pieces of gum are fairly large actually. And there are 5 pieces per packet. I like to chew one every hour if I am in class and dozing off or just nearing that afternoon slump. Just a quick comparison from the mayoclinic, here is the caffeine content of many popular drinks we drink: **Keep in mind one piece of this gum contains 100mg of caffeine. Sodas: Coca-Cola........12oz.......30-35mg (caffeine) Pepsi...............12oz.......32-39mg Dr Pepper.........12oz.......36mg Coffee: Generic Brewed.......8oz.......95-200mg Espresso................1oz.......40-75mg Generic Instant........8oz......27-173mg Energy Drink: 5 hour energy...........2oz........207mg Monster....................8oz........80mg Red Bull....................8.4oz.....76-80mg Rockstar...................8oz........79-80mg Tea: Black.......................8oz..........14-61mg Green tea................8oz..........24-40mg *1/19/13* I am editing my review after a very recent life-changing experience. In my previous review (now edited) I mentioned how this was a great product for long distance drives. I can no longer recommend that anyone take this when feeling drowsy as nothing...nothing on earth can win against a body that has been sleep deprived. When you are at a certain point and you are physically and mentally tired, your body will shut itself down the moment it gets. To make a long story short, a simple trip back to LA at 5:30am ended in a car being totaled and some minor bruises. I'm very lucky to be alive and to have been the only party involved in the accident. Not trying to say woe is me, not trying to bash this product! Certainly not. This is a good product! But I am just trying to warn everyone else out there reading reviews on how this would be great for long drives or when operating machinery while drowsy...do not listen to them. Please take it from someone who's experienced a life-changing experience first hand. If you are tired at the wheel, pull over, get a quick 30min in of sleep and try again. No coffee, no caffeine gum. It's not worth losing a car which ties into your livelihood. Don't take stimulants to propel your body when it is trying to tell you something. On that note, I hope everyone uses these safely and for minor tasks that require alertness.

Exceeded expectations, provided quick energy!
I noticed this product a few months ago, and thought it might be worth it to try it out. I was pretty excited until I saw all the negative reviews for the gum. Everyone was complaining about the awful, bitter taste, and the lack of a "boost". After trying this product out for a few weeks, I highly recommend it to those looking for a "pick-me-up". Once you start chewing the gum, the flavor is, quite honestly, the best gun flavoring I've ever had (Arctic Mint). It's suprisingly strong, and was a lot sweeter than I'd expected. The flavor lasts for about 5 minutes (longer than other gums I've had, like Wrigley's or mentos), and has a fairly gritty texture. The gum does not harden after time, which is a great rendition. There have been countless times where I've been chewing gum, and it wears out my jaw due to the clay-like rigidity. What might deter you from the gum is the aftertaste. Once the flavor wears off (which, again, takes fairly long, because it's mint), you're left with a slightly minty, slightly bitter flavor. I would compare it to stale bread. This is the caffeine, and the stale taste grows a bit stronger as the mint wears away. I usually chew a piece for about 20 or 30 minutes before I spit it out, because the caffeine taste gets a bit overwhelming. Now, for the energy. Holy. Cow. I have never experienced a faster rush in my life. Within seconds of chewing a piece, you can feel the effects. It's not a slow, gradual rise, though. It hit me like a train. The effect was immediate, I felt more awake and energized. The energy I felt lasted for at least 2 hours before I started to wind down. Now, most people experince a "crash" after the effects of coffee wear off. With this gum, I didn't notice a thing. I didn't suddenly run out of juice, I just felt more focused for the rest of the day. I cannot recommend this product enough. With the $30 price tag, this is a steal.

Gum has cinnamon flavor despite being listed as Mint flavor on the package and having blue coating
I have been using this from ~2016 through 2025; previously I found it very useful and the mint flavor was pretty good, although the caffeine makes it a little bitter. I always get the mint flavor. Unfortunately, when I most recently purchased a package of mint flavored gum, I found that in addition to the packaging changing, despite it being blue (as the old mint gum was) and literally saying it was mint flavored on the package, it was actually cinnamon flavored. I assume there was an issue on the production side. Sadly, I would otherwise give it 5 stars.

Great for an extra kick of energy!
Awesome pieces of gum that are easy to chew and doesn’t taste horrible! I use these for my early musters where I feel like I need an extra kick of energy where an energy drink or coffee doesn’t suffice. They are super easily portable and overall I would recommend this to my friends.

A Life and a Job saver
At 51 years old. I have suffered for years with Sleep Apnea and "Excessive Daytime Sleepiness" I know it sounds like I made that up. When I was diagnosed with Excessive Daytime Sleepiness I told the doctor he made it up. Google it. I take medication to counteract the Excessive Daytime Sleepiness but sometimes it just does not work. I will fall asleep in meetings or even while talking to someone in my office or on the phone. This gum has changed my life. When I notice the first signs of sleepiness I chew one piece and within a few minutes I am wide awake. I saw a report on 60 minutes, I told you I was old, about how 5 Hour Energy says it has the caffeine of one cup of premium coffee. Well it does, along with the caffeine of other cups of coffee. And all the other stuff 5 Hour Energy has in it that it says help you stay awake do not do much at all. It is all the caffeine. Here is the link to the story.[...] The story says that all the energy in 5 Hour Energy comes from the caffeine. Vitamins and supplements do not give you energy. Well I felt like an idiot, I have been buying 5 hour energy from Amazon for a while and I must admit, even with the discount from buying in large volume the cost was still high, and it was not a perfect solution. I would sometimes have to take more than one in a 5 hour period. Well after seeing the 60 minutes story I used Google and found several studies performed for the Military that stated that the absorption of caffeine via the mouth is much faster than through the stomach or intestines. Makes sense to me, that is why cocaine users snort or dip the stuff instead of eating it. Anyway, long story short, I bought this product and it has saved my job and my life. Now if i feel tired I just pop one in my mouth and within minutes I am wide awake. The packaging is not going to win any awards for marketing but it does as advertised. I see a lot of competing products available in stores, Jolt! for instance, but I never even tried it. This one works and it is used by the military. Check out [...] and you will see links to all the studies, the story about how long it took to develop, and the order instructions for quartermasters. I was intrigued enough to try it from the web site but after using it I can tell you this stuff is the real deal. The other big plus is the cost. 5 pieces per pack, 24 packs per box, $28 per box = just under a quarter ($0.25) per piece. That is a lot easier on the pocket than $2.00 per bottle for 5 hour energy. I can carry a packet in my pocket, keep a pack at my desk, one in my lunch box, one in my car, where ever I might need a piece. Much more convenient than when I was using 5 hour energy. Finally, I have only tried the Arctic Mint flavor and it is not too bad. I do not notice the bad caffeine taste so many other reviewers are talking about but that is just me. In the end, regardless of the taste, it works when I need it to and it is easy to carry. By this point, if you are not convinced then you never will be. 'Nuff said! **UPDATE** Amazon will not allow me to enter the links to the CBS 60 Minutes story on 5-Hour Energy or the link to the official Stay Alert Gum web site but just Google "60 Minutes 5 hour energy" and/or "Stay Awake Gum" and in each case the web sites one of the top links. **UPDATE** **UPDATE 2** **September 26, 2013** Well it has been two years and I am still using this stuff. The name was changed recently to "Military Energy Gum" but it is still the same product. I have tired all three flavors and rank them in this order. Best Flavor - Spearmint Second Best - Artic Mint Worst (by an long shot) - Cinnamon Of course those are just my opinion, the two mint flavors have the least bitterness, the Cinnamon has the most intense bitter taste to me but you may be different.
