This resonant and award-winning picture book tells the story of one girl who constantly gets asked a simple question that doesn’t have a simple answer. A great conversation starter in the home or classroom—a book to share, in the spirit of I Am Enough by Grace Byers and Keturah A. Bobo. When a girl is asked where she’s from—where she’s really from—none of her answers seems to be the right one. Unsure about how to reply, she turns to her loving abuelo for help. He doesn’t give her the response she expects. She gets an even better one. Where am I from? You’re from hurricanes and dark storms, and a tiny singing frog that calls the island people home when the sun goes to sleep.... With themes of self-acceptance, identity, and home, this powerful, lyrical picture book will resonate with readers young and old, from all backgrounds and of all colors—especially anyone who ever felt that they don’t belong. 2019 Nerdies Fiction Picture Book Award Winner | Silver Medalist for Bank Street College of Education’s Best Spanish Language Picture Books of the Year | Named one of Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2019 |A Mighty Girl’s 2019 Book of the Year | Named one of New York Public Library's Best Books for Kids 2019 " Lyrical language and luminous illustrations. Teach kids about culture
My daughters (2y/o& 4y/o) really enjoyed reading this book. It is a great message for small children about accepting what makes them different. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent
This book is very beautifully written and illustrated... and offers young (and older) readers important foundational information about the land and history of Argentina. I expected a good book, but this one exceeds all expectations. We'll be introducing it to our preschoolers tomorrow! I highly recommend to all!!! <3

From Here
Lovely, gentle book with watercolor backgrounds that add to the magic of creating a feeling of belonging to real people, real love, real family. Not to be defined by a one word named place.

Could't wait to read this to my son.
Books and stories like these are going to play an important role in my son's life. Children need to see people who represent them in tv, books, and movies. I also feel that my son needs to know where he or his dad came from. He will be able to read my stories but others' will help too.

I got this as a thank you to my alaka'i/#1 dancer who happens to be a children's librarian - knew this would be a perfect gift for her.

Very narrow
We are mixed nationality family, and I wanted to get this book for my children, who will no doubt be asked this question in future. I regret I didn’t know it was very specific to 1 culture, I think some Spanish-speaking South-American (not sure which one - there is also mention about slavery). Also there are references to God, so would only suit religious family. The book was irrelevant and difficult to understand for us, so ended up in the bin. The illustrations were quite nice and good paper and cover quality.

Not what was expected
The concept of the book is great. I felt the message didn't really land and it rather abruptly ended. This was a shame as I thought it would have been a very good book.
