RioRand RR-USB-6IN Plasma Ball Lamp Light [Touch Sensitive] Nebula Sphere Globe Novelty Toy - USB or Battery Powered, 4" x 4" x 6"

This review is for the USB Powered Plasma Ball by "generic", "style 1". No "DC 5V 500mA Adapter" included. Judging by pictures, it looks exactly the same to me as other listings on Amazon with similar prices (about $10 or less). One listing in particular looks exactly the same but the design on the box is different according to a picture. Most likely the same factory is making them but I certainly don't know for sure. As a kid I always wanted a big plasma globe. This scratches the itch. It isn't big but it's a nice little size The light in some of the customer pictures looks faint, but in a slightly dim room it looks pretty darn good. I estimate there are about 16 thin moving blue tendrils with pink ends (where they touch the globe) at all times. When touching the globe, there are up to three thick tendrils that will follow your fingers. The more fingers that are used, the more the blue tendrils tend to "flash" around and they become thinner. It's also neat to look at the source of the tendrils at the center when not touching the globe. The tendrils extend from the pink colored source and move around it like little tornadoes. Mine works as expected. Like my other PC lighting, I don't use it all the time. It's probably been active for around 6-8 hours. I keep the USB plugged in and use the ON/OFF switch located on the plastic base. My PC case is black so this looks nice, with it's black base, sitting on top. The USB is removable from the main unit and, since the box mentions a DC power adapter, I suppose the right type could be used. I have not tried to do so. (As advertised, this did not come with one included). For under $10 it is easily a nice little buy. Ideally, I'd like a comparable product with a more durable base than plastic but for that I would expect to pay more. For what I paid and received, I rate this at 5 stars.

Oo, I like this thing. It's small & has a nice "electrifying" kind of look to it... kinda looks like a jellyfish in a glass ball to me when it's on. :3 I'm kind of a fan of these plasma ball things, so I'm excited about this 1. :B I think this 1 is the most innovative design for 1 of these I've seen in years. & you can't beat the price.. 10 bucks or less is practically a steal in this case. :) Maybe cause it's small, but I remember getting a bigger 1 ages ago & it was over 50 bucks, so this is quite a bargain, even for a small 1. :) Seems good quality too. I got it stored in its box for safe keeping at the moment, but I read other reviews & the long lasting part does seem to be true so far. Overall, it's awesome!... :D

This was much smaller than I thought it would be which is why I'm not good at ordering on line. A comparison to a hand would have been good. It fits in your palm. But it worked great and my Grandson loved it. Not quite as sturdy as I would have hoped either. Novelty. The price for this size and quality was just ok, not good. But fun while it lasted.

Kids love it very much. A combination of science and art. Give inspiration to kids on science.

Feels pretty cheap but works good

This is a great product and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something to entertain them. I've read a lot of the complaints before purchasing, and I would like to confirm/refute some of them. I've read that it makes a strange "buzzing" noise: Yeah, all plasma balls do, but don't worry. It's really not that loud at all. Another says that it doesn't have any big plasma "rays": Well, what did you expect? It's ran by your computer (note: it actually does have some pretty decent sized "rays"). The last one I'd like to bring up is that people say that the globe is tiny (smaller than the base). The globe has a diameter of a bit more than two inches. The base bottom is just under two and a half inches. In conclusion: Yes, the globe has a smaller diameter of the base, but not by much. And for something that runs off of your USB port, and is this cheap, it's an amazing deal. All in all, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for anything cheap, but highly entertaining. The Plasma Ball is really cool! I've wanted one ever since I saw a plasma ball advertised a few years ago for $1,500 in the back of Science News. I was skeptical about the low price on Amazon, but ordered one just to see. I received the plasma ball and it worked great and is even cooler than it looks in the pictures because you can affect the plasma arcs inside the bulb and the bulb glows where you put you fingers on it. (Originally I thought I hadn't received the item, and notified Amazon who contacted the seller who offered me options and refunded my money immediately. However, I had the plasma ball the entire time in it's original cushion-wrapped packaging in the corner of a room, and I apologized to Lucky's Electronics because of their great service and will return their refund. I plan also on buying several additional plasma balls for family around the country. It's a great gadget and a great company with great follow-up service!) Nice display, works well, lots of fun and loved by my nine year old daughter.

For the price its actually a fun lamp for younger kids. I'll probably end up giving this to my coworkers 4 year old son. The bulb is glass, but it's really thin so you need to exercise caution when playing with it. To be honest, I kind of expected there to be more plasma tendrils coming out of the center receptacle, but I guess that's to be expected of a unit that can run off 3 AAA batteries. The unit is not too bright and I would feel comfortable running this as a night light. It even has a built in power switch! A very thoughtful addition. Overall, I am extremely happy with this light and would gladly recommend this toy as a gift for young children.
