Great Little AC for a Small Room
I put this in a small bedroom and it cools the space a lot better than I expected. Itโs simple to set up, the controls are straightforward, and it gets the room comfortable pretty quickly. The noise level is reasonable too, so it doesnโt make it hard to sleep. I like that the filter is washable since that makes upkeep easy. For a basic window unit, itโs been reliable and well worth the money.

Perfect for Bedroom Cooling
Sometimes, less is more, especially when it comes to cooling a single room. I picked up the Amazon Basics 5000-BTU Small Window Air Conditioner specifically for my bedroom, and it has proven to be the ideal workhorse for targeted cooling. While it doesn't boast built-in Wi-Fi, its simplicity is actually its biggest strength for my particular use case: full automation through Home Assistant. Installation was a breeze โ truly one of the easiest window units I've ever dealt with. It's lightweight and the adjustable window kit made for a snug fit in minutes. Once it was in, I plugged it into a smart plug, which is the secret sauce to my setup. Paired with motion and temperature sensors in Home Assistant, this little unit is now fully automated. It only kicks on when someone is in the room and the temperature crosses my comfort threshold. This means no wasted energy cooling an empty room, and I walk into a perfectly chilled space every time. I only wish I could somehow turn the fan down when it turns on overnight since it works a little too quickly The 5000 BTUs are absolutely perfect for my bedroom's size (under 150 sq. ft.). It cools down the space quickly and effectively. While the mechanical controls mean you can't directly control settings like fan speed through a smart app, the on/off functionality via the smart plug is exactly what I needed. Plus, the washable filter is a nice touch for easy maintenance and keeping the air fresh. It's not the quietest unit on the market, but the white noise it provides is actually quite soothing for sleeping. Pros: * Ideal for Single Rooms: 5000 BTUs is spot on for bedrooms, home offices, or other small spaces. * Smart Plug Friendly: Its mechanical controls make it a perfect candidate for automation with a smart plug and Home Assistant/other smart home hubs. * Easy Installation: Lightweight and comes with a simple adjustable window kit โ practically plug-and-play. * Efficient Cooling: Gets the job done quickly and keeps the room consistently cool. * Washable Filter: Simple to remove and clean, promoting better air quality. * Affordable: Great value for a reliable small room AC. Cons: * No Built-in Smart Features: Requires a separate smart plug for automation (which, for me, is fine). * Mechanical Controls: No digital display or fine-tuned fan speed control directly on the unit. * Noticeable Noise Level: It's not whisper-quiet, though the consistent hum can be a plus for some as white noise. If you're looking for a simple, reliable, and incredibly effective window AC unit for a single room, especially if you plan to integrate it with your smart home setup using a smart plug, the Amazon Basics 5000-BTU unit is an outstanding choice. It proves that you don't need all the bells and whistles to achieve perfect, automated comfort.

Holds up well over time!
Works great! We have had ours for 3 years and it still going strong so we purchased another for the other end of our house. It has NO remote. It went in the window no problem installing it was a breeze. Not super heavy but it is an air conditioner so it has some weight. Decently quiet for a window unit.

You get what you pay for ๐
The old adage plays true with this, โyou get what you pay forโ. It was the cheapest window A/C. Iโll start with some pluses: - The unit seems to have a real nice cooling capacity. Itโs only 5,000 BTU, but it seems to work. - Control dials are simple, and seem robust Now the negatives, that truly far outweigh the positives: - The unit is LOUD!!! Even on the lowest of the two fan speeds, itโs not good. I found myself sitting about almost 10-feet away, needing to wear ear plugs. - The unit uses a styrofoam shape to separate the fan and evaporator (cooling coil) from the compressor and condenser (where the heat is rejected outdoors). This isnโt so bad, except, if your unit is in sunlight, the sun shines directly on the styrofoam through the unit grating. Hard to describe, but trust me. I had to do a double and triple take, and yup, sunlight on styrofoam. Sun ultraviolet (UV) is hard on styrofoam. - The unit has so many gaps! You would think it would be constructed more tightly. Looking through the front grill, I was looking through the filter, and could see sunlight. Upon closer inspection, not only were the gaps where they stamped the sheet metal to create slots for the side wings to slid into, there appears to be an internal gap from indoors to outdoors. When your main filter in front gets loaded up, it looks it will draw unfiltered air from the outside into the evaporator coil. This isnโt good with time as it will load the coil with dirt. - This may be typical for these types of units, but the accordion sections are massively gappy too. Iโll come up with a solution to patch those in, likely with cardboard, aluminum foil and tape. I took a photo, with which you can see some of the light (right side of filter) and styrofoam (light blue section near the top of the unit). And Iโm not trying to be overly negative, but itโs good to be aware of this before you buy. Iโll keep this as it meets my current needs for cheap AC.

Works good and is quiet
I think this ac is pretty good budget option for a small room. It definitely cools slower than slight higher btuโs but if you start it before the heat wave itโll stay cool throughout day. Iโd recommend.

Great buy
I was on the fence about getting this because we have central air and heat. The house we bought a couple years ago has a brand new one put in after we purchased the house. BUT, our primary bedroom is the last room to get air, so our bedroom is always 10-20 degrees hotter than the rest of our home. We also live in Texas, so our summers are super hot and humid. I'm so glad I purchased this! It makes our bedroom perfect now. It's nice and cold now like the rest of the house. I hate the way window units look normally, but this one isn't bad at all. I actually like the small size. It's small enough to just close the curtains in the winter/fall and you won't even know it's there. Thankfully, our bedroom windows face the backyard, so the neighbors don't have to ever look at it. It was also affordable. I'll have to get better pictures of it soon.

Great product thank you Amazon Basics
I paired this with a thermostat outlet (LUX WIN100) and it just operates itself. I donโt ever have to touch it. Installation package was complete. Noise level is moderate. I donโt think it can get quieterโฆI mean moving air makes noise. Definitely acceptable. Blows very cold. I have a hoodie on right now lol

Great unit - one is enough if you understand how heat works.
I'm cooling an entire apartment (maybe 800 sq ft) from the living room. I think if you read between the lines on the 3-star to 4-star reviews (even some of the 2-stars) you'll understand what you are buying. For the price point this is a 5-star unit. My only real mistake is that you have to be delicate with the outside heat sink. They will cut your fingers and bend over easily. Wear gloves and don't touch the soft parts. Still 5-star. My unit is all analogue controls and they work just fine. The first 24-hours was at full blast and the past 2 days it's been 30ยฐC+ outdoors and 20-24ยฐC indoors. Can't complain at all - noise levels are exactly what you'd expect for the price point.

Its pretty tough!
I have rewired it to cool a vegetable storage room and it has been running almost continuously since I bought it. I am happy with it but do not suggest anyone do the same.

Amazing Cooling Power
Really great, does it's job decently well, not hard to install. It took me a couple hours the first time though, as the fan didn't spin when I turned it on. I fiddled with it and poked the fan a few times, and after a while the fan spun and it has worked since. These units may need more testing before, though I'm not sure the cause.

Good solid product for the price!
Works perfect! Have had for 3 years now. Still going like a charm! My power didnโt go up very much either.
