Very nice knife set from sabatier, and yes it does sharpen the knives but I have found it's better if you hold the block while you do it otherwise I would recommend this ,thank you amazon

After promising to replace the old ceramic knife set we have use for years, now held together with Duct Tape and Hope (ceramics seem no longer available probably due to tip breakage) I started the almost inexaustive search for the best value, almost pro , super sharp set of blades. After checking all the dubious so called 'Japanese' ultra sharp style knives and self sharpening knife block systems, I came across these french Sabatier knives and block. They are excellent quality, comfortable, easy to handle and sharper than even new ceramics. The self sharpening block is nice and sturdy and does a good job so far. Every knife you need on a day to day is included - and they are excellent value at the price point I paid. Well done Sabatier!!

We bought this set knowing the fine reputation of this company name. First impressions were very good. Apparent high quality materials and finish - just what we expected. Three months later, we are not so impressed. Despite following the product cleaning and care guide, we now find that three of the five knives are developing rust stains on the blade. Not what you expect from quality stainless steel. The stain comes off with a scouring pad, but that's not the point.

Terrible Product. Had these knives for a couple of weeks. Whilst cutting some cheese, one knife snapped completely in half. Knives are also rusting already. These don't seem to be genuine Sabatier Knives. I contacted Sabatier and they have told me that they are getting a lot of complaints but these knives are counterfeit. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Was wondering what to buy my son-in-law (who is French) for Christmas when I came across these knives - which are also French....looked the product up on line and decided that as I'd bought a good chef knife for him a few years ago, that he treats as the holy grail he would like this set. Upon receiving it, he will be treating them like the 2nd coming!! To say I was impressed with them would be an understatement,,, Very High quality blade and an amazing self sharpener in the wooden block. Everything is of the highest Quality, elegant, practical and extremely sharp. Weather you are a professional or just love to cook these knives would outshine any kitchen. Absolutely thrilled with them and I know my so-in-law will be highly delighted.
