Rembrandt Soft Pastels, Half Stick, 90 Piece Professional Set

The Rembrandt Pastels are a pastel artist dream. Soft, blend extremely well, great color selection. I would not recommend for a begining pastel student as they are rather pricey, however, if your budget allows, get them, you will not regret it.

I paint with pastels frequently. Although I use other brands as well, when I want a particular image highlighted or I really need a color to pop out of the painting I always use a Rembrandt. Such as the white edges of puffy clouds or the brighter edges of a fiery sky, etc.. They are not nearly as powdery as other brands, And I would not use them under another brand as the more powdery pastel chalks seem to cluster and not spread evenly. These easily apply on top of layers of other pastel brands easily. If I could afford it I would use this brand exclusively! I love Rembrandt Pastels.

These are a harder pastel stick (more binding-to-pigment ratio than the softer pastels). They work well as an underpainting pastel stick.

Don't buy these if you want to give them as a gift.

I love the pastels workability and colors. My only negative is that the end of one of the pastels was broken.

These are a hard "soft pastel", but that makes them perfect for doing the first few layers of a painting, using the truly soft pastels for the last layer. Beautiful vibrant colors, my first choice to begin my artwork. I will definitely buy these again, I only wish Amazon had more open stock to order, most micro sets are sold out. Please get more! Here is a painting I did with them, I'm still learning.

I thought I hard purchased soft pastels. Though upon receiving them, the box does say "soft" though the pastels themselves seem hard, dry, crumbly and break all too easily. They are NOT a pleasure to work with. If this is the quality of Rembrandt, then I would suggest another brand, unless these are qualities you are looking for in a pastel crayon. I was disappointed to say the least.

Just some of them were a bit broken but considering that they travelled to Colombia, it’s ok.

I was really looking forward to receiving this order - unfortunately the product was entirely unusable. The Rembrandt soft pastels themselves are an excellent product to use especially in underpaintings and have beautiful vibrant colours. Such a shame, they came in such a damaged state. This is my second set of pastels to arrive in broken unusable state - perhaps better packaging is needed for those beautiful but delicate products.
