ClosetMaid Cubeicals 6 Cube Storage Shelf Organizer Bookshelf, Stackable, Vertical Or Horizontal, Easy Assembly, Wood, Dark Cherry Finish

I gave this 5 stars for the ECONOMY of it, but feel I should clarify what this IS and IS NOT. THIS IS VERY BASIC ECONOMY LIGHTWEIGHT STORAGE AT A CHEAP PRICEPOINT. This is NOT the same as the Ikea Kallax or Walmart Better Homes and Gardens level of reinforced sturdiness for holding heavier weighted items like books, nor are the interior cube dimensions compatible with those brands of 13" or 12" fabric cubes. This IS: These shelves are ideal for lighter-weight storage such as baby/toddler clothes or kids toys--- or in our case, the kids wanted LEGO display shelves for their 10x10 base-plate scenes and quick storage of random toys like Hotwheels, etc. When purchasing fabric cubes be sure they are the 10" or 11" dimensions. I found that "Mainstays" collapsible fabric cubes at Walmart fit nicely in here, but even better score was when I found some 11" cubes at our Dollar Tree (bargain!). These ClosetMaid Cubeicals benefit from being anchored into a stud on the wall, rather than being used as stand-alone/free-standing shelves. The 9 cube = 3x3 could be tolerable/"okay" freestanding if you absolutely insist, but I also bought some 1x4 and those must be secured or they sway and wobble pretty noticeably. A few miscellaneous notes: The 5 "shelf backings" arrive with a permanent creased fold down the middle-for shipping, and are made of thin poster-board like material. If this crease bothers you, just buy posterboard and cut your own backs to tack in. Or if you want something thicker, I imagine "foamboard" from the school supply aisle works great if you score it with a box-cutter. When I tacked in the shelf backings, one of my shelves tore/split even though the tack went in straight and precisely where it should have. I chose to use wood glue to repair the piece rather than return the shelves. This was fast and easy to assemble, the instructions were clear. We've had the shelves for two days now, so I may update this later on to report on durability. Why I gave it 5 stars: The shelves fit our current purpose wonderfully, and I love that when I don't require heavy duty weight bearing shelves, there is a very economical option I can snatch up. Eventually I do want the heavy duty, larger 13" cube shelves from a major brand, but for now I appreciated paying less than forty bucks to have a 9 cube = 3x3 shelf, rather than eighty or one twenty bucks for 3x3 from the other brands. Later on, I will pay more to buy some that are textbook sturdy and can do more things. The photos: You will notice I originally had 12" cubes (white with blue petals), and realized I needed the 10 or 11" cubes (beige/gray). Also I did show one photo of my 4 cube storage here, even though this is my review for the 9 cube (3x3).

I got this for my 2 daughter's room. They needed more shelving that actually looks nice. I was hoping it wouldn't be a lot of work and it really wasn't. First, there are a couple pieces with slits in them and you just slide the pieces together in the slots, to make the inner shelves. Then you add the outer pieces. It came with all the hardware. It says to use a screwdriver but I used my electric drill/screwdriver to screw it in. I'm not a pro at these but it turned out great. Also you must soak for a second, the pre glued wooden dowels in water before using to get them wet before putting in the boards. That was different but ok. Some of the wooden dowels seemed to go in too far, where there was barely anything hanging out. I tried using pliers on 2 to pull them back out as there was nothing to connect them with, in too far to connect it to other board, but those 2 broke off. It still fit together nicely after screwing it in. I just put a couple nails in those areas to help make that spot more sturdy. It still isn't the most sturdy but it works for us. I got colored bins coming to put in them so the girls can keep their toys. They love it. In my pic, the messy one is without the bins. It will look better once I get the bins. Hopefully they will start cleaning their room and putting stuff away in the nice new pretty shelf.

I bought two of the 6 cube to stack on top of each other sideways (so that they're wider than they are tall). They look great in my living room, and weren't too hard to put together. I've got the cubical fabric drawers to go with them. They feel pretty solid once put together and I've already loaded a bunch of books and junk onto the shelves. Some caveats for buyers: * It's a pretty cheap finish on them. They scratch easily. Take them out of the box carefully and slowly because I scratched up a few of the boards by turning the box up and letting it all slide out in a pile. I wouldn't sit any sweating drinks on these, they'll probably leave bubbles or stains. * It's also a material easily damaged with tools... I missed the mark while putting the back cardboard covers on it, and pushed a nail out the side which tore a chunk out of the finish. Fortunately it was at the top of a bottom cube where it can't be seen unless you nearly stick your head in to look. This was my fault, not the manufacturers. * It claims they're stackable, but they didn't mention it's only intended for one direction. For the 6 cube organizer it comes with extra holes and dowels to stack a top one onto the bottom vertically. Meaning you have it sitting in the taller position where it's 2 squares across and 6 squares up and down with both together, rather than 3 squares across and 4 squares up and down (like I wanted). This is not a deal breaker though, the top one still sat on the bottom one pretty solidly with them sideways, it just doesn't have the benefit of the dowels holding them together for stability. I wouldn't recommend letting a little one climb on it or anything. My walls aren't solid enough to use the wall supports that it does come with. Overall I would recommend these, you really can't beat this price and if one does fall apart in a couple years hey, it's cheap and 2 days away with Amazon Prime.

This will be my largest of the ClosetMaid Cubeical Units. I own this one (12-cube), one of the (8-cube units, and two of the individual 4-cube units). I was leery purchasing this one (even though the reviews were much better than other similar units and less expensive) since it was going to be free-standing, except for the end which would be adjacent to a bureau. I needed this unit to serve as an additional bookcase for my ever-growing collection of books. However, I dawdled with buying this because I waited too long and the dark cherry cube went out of stock. Nevertheless, the coloring scheme was not why I purchased it. The unit does not, I repeat DOES NOT wobble at all, (even on relatively flush or flat carpeting). My unit did not have any flaws, thankfully. Once you begin putting these units together frequently, you almost "that's almost" never require the instructions. With the exception of joining the two long shelves together, I pretty much did not need the directions since I have enough experience in building these cubeicals. Unlike other feedback regarding cleaning the cubes and the finish peeling off, I did not have that happen. A simple, semi-damp cloth will suffice as long as it does not have any type of harsh chemical on it. I feel it is safe to say by now that the ClosetMaid Cubeicals are one of the best ways to go with tight-space shelving, bookcase additions, or adding an extra shelf for odds-and-ends. Worth every penny, sturdy and easy to build.

This is a sturdy unit, with adequate instructions, even for a novice (like me). It would be nice if the packet came with an extra screw in each size. My only other suggestion might be for Closet Maid to pre-stamp each piece with the "name" it is given in the instructions - especially in light of the fact that some boards are the same size, but have a different pattern of pre-drilled holes. You can see what I mean, below. I am a smart woman. People even tell me that, sometimes. Most don't know that I am terrible at "spatial ability" - I can't figure out how to put things (like puzzles) together very well. My brain just doesn't see that way. But today I un-boxed the shelving unit (some assembly required) I ordered in a fit of over-confidence while surfing the web at 2 a.m. a few weeks ago. I gathered my tools - a screwdriver and a hammer, just like the instructions told me to. I reviewed how many of every screw there was, and what they were called ("assembly" screw, that's an "assembly" screw -- I would even say it out loud to reinforce the concept). I counted the pre-cut, pre-drilled boards and stacked them neatly into piles by size. I bribed the 9 year-old to help gramma, and he did so willingly, at first. I got the side board connected to the top board, (or maybe it was the bottom board) and was feeling fairly proud of myself. But the instructions called for me to fit "short dowels" into pre-drilled holes in the top board (or maybe it was the bottom board). But the stupid dowels wouldn't fit! So I pulled out the instructions and realized I had picked up a horizontal divider when what I needed was a fixed shelf (same size but the dowels would fit into this one - who knew!). So I unscrewed the first two boards, and grabbed a post-it notepad and labeled ALL the boards - just in case. I had the 9-year old help me again hold the boards while I reattached the fixed shelf to the side board (or maybe it was a top board). Once again, when it came time to screw the top board (or maybe bottom?) to the vertical board, I realized there was no pre-drilled hole! The 9-year old had the best view (and better vision) and noticed immediately that the pre-drilled hole was on the wrong side. So we detached the screws (again) and turned the board around (I was so sure I had it right this time, too.) And the re-screwing was far quicker. But... you guessed it, I had the finished side (only one of the four sides was finished) pointing the wrong direction... so we backtracked. Again. Eventually, the 9-year old wandered off to play with his brother. He told me I should be more careful. Duly noted. And I urged him to keep that play appointment in the other room - pronto. So, with careful re-reading of the instructions (in three languages!) and diligence with the post-it notes (that kept sliding off the slick finish), I continued to assemble the shelf-unit. With only one near amputation when the "real wood!" board (probably that stupid fixed shelf, or maybe it was the vertical divider) slid out of my grip and landed faint millimeters from my toe. That board was heavy, too! It even shook the house! Of course it did. Anyway, I counted and there were precisely eighteen "assembly screws" and not one more and not one less. I guarded them with my life, counting before and after every potty break and coffee run. Finally, with the unit mostly assembled, I came to the "backing" (which turned out to be a folded piece of cardboard-hey, what happened to the "real wood"?). And it turned out, there were only three, despite the fact there were six openings. And now you know my sense of "style" is as absent as my spatial ability. Covering only three of the six squares provides a unique "look" - at least to all non-OCD customers. Nevertheless, I persisted. Each piece of folded cardboard was nailed down with, I kid you not, 12 teeny pin-like nails, called "nails" in the instructions (Ciou, Ciavo, Nail - that whole 3 languages thing). And these things were designed by an absolute 4-star genius. Imagine the amount of research it must have taken to size these pins to the exact the depth of my thumb! I was in awe. Because that precision measurement resulted in me not being able to even "start" the nail without slamming into my thumb. Thirty-six times, if you don't count all the ones that fell out before I could get the nail stabilized. I checked for "hacks to avoid hitting your thumb" on my phone, after only five or six nails (I told you I was smart) and discovered that you can hold a nail between the teeth of your comb (or your husband's comb, if he is not at home). Bonus, as you are pounding the bejabbers out of everything in the vicinity of your microscopic nail-pin, the comb appears to act as a protective agent for the shelf (or maybe it was the horizontal divider). The comb, however, did turn out to be mostly a total loss. But I did it. I assembled a "some assembly required" shelving unit and it only took me six hours. PS - you may need ice for the finger you forgot to move during the flailing/so-called hammering you did prior to the comb hack. PPS - and save the ice because it turns out that all those boards nailed together are far heavier than the single board that missed your toe earlier. Enjoy!

Durable and easy to use. It’s practical, decent size happy

Terrible!! Don’t waste your time & money. Twice I ordered this bookshelf and twice it came substandard. Although it was thoroughly sealed like new, the first time the shelf came it came without any hardware or instructions. I ended up having to throw it away, because it was too much of a pain to send it back. They should have just sent me the parts. The second time, or replacement I ordered was sent with four of the shelves being the same. There was no top or bottom, only 4 shelves. This is unbelievable. I should have kept the one I threw away because at least then I might have had the correct parts. Then again, I never got so far as to check those shelves. So now I’ve thrown away money on this shelf TWICE. Closetmaid used to be reliable. Forget about it now. I don’t know who they are hiring to work there but this is no longer a company worth buying from. Pictures: notice the shelves are only marked “B” and yet the picture says 2 of them should be “A” and two of them should be “C”. Real smart!

I got this shelf to organize my craft stuff on, and it works perfectly. The instructions were very straightforward and thorough, and assembly took maybe 30-45 minutes. Very easy! Instructions request a hammer and a standard screwdriver, though I opted for a drill and was just gentle when drilling in the screws. The screws are not the best quality, but they get the job done. The color matches what’s pictured, and the material is okay, just about what you’d expect for the price. I’m content with this product for the most part. The reason I rate this three stars is because the screw holes are not recessed, so the screw heads stick out. They include covers for the screw heads, so I am not worried about that on an aesthetic level, but the bottom and the top of the shelf each have a screw right in the middle. Due to this middle screw, which is not recessed, it will cause the shelf to rock back and forth and not sit well on the ground (video included of this.) There is something included to bolt the shelf to the wall, but I still don’t think you should have to bolt it to a wall to support it if you’re not storing anything heavy on it, and even with the bolting, it would not make it sit flat. My partner took his drill and made a recess for the screw himself so we could get it sitting flat, so it’s not a bad shelf if you don’t mind making that adjustment. Just keep that in mind when buying this that you may need to make that small adjustment to make it work! Three stars because I don’t think the customer should have to make such an adjustment to make the product work, especially as I know not everyone may have a drill or the drill bit needed to do that.

I think quality needs to improve, instructions on the manual could have been better. Once you assesmble it , you cannot dismantle it without demanging the sheet or the product. They can do better.

Wonderful, easy to assemble, brilliant instructions, look good. I fixed them to the wall in case my grandson decided to climb but they are probably sturdy enough for normal use without that in normal circumstances. Wall fixing is included though for safety reasons.

Me parece que fue fácil de armar, el acabado es bonito y de buena apariencia. Lo compré para organizar los juguetes de mi hijo y realmente quedé complacida. Lo recomiendo.

I love this storage unit. I bought two of them and stacked them on top of each other. They are simple with clean lines and classic white. The cubes make for really versatile storage of different kinds of items and can add colourful drawers as well to brighten up the unit and match your decor etc. I put them together on my own so pretty simple to put up. Looked fairly modest when I put them up in size but they held loads of item. Put everything I wanted to put away in there and still had room for future storing. Very happy. Only thing I'd say is that the backings looked fairly flimsy like cardboard but since I never wanted to put them on that didn't bother me, just put it against a wall.
