Are you wasting your money with the phone company? You should definitely get a MagicJack!
Awesome phone service for an extremely good price. We had terrible, intermittent DSL service and a standard home phone service with TDS Telecom for nearly $70 per month and decided to switch to ETC with 20Mb Cable Internet only for about $50 per month. I purchased the MagicJack Express and have been using it continuously since July 2015. It came with 3 months of free service. I ported my old home phone number, that I had for 15 years, to MagicJack for a one time $10 fee. I renewed for another 5 years for $99 plus tax, so other than the opt in 911 service that I pay $16 per YEAR for, I have no other phone bill until my 5 years are up in the fall of 2020. I connected it near my WiFi router and connected it via ethernet cable, plugged it in to the outlet and plugged it into my telephone wall jack. (disconnect your phone company connection (the rj11 plug) in the phone box on the outside of your house before back feeding it through your home telephone wiring). It now supplies all phone jacks throughout my home. It has perfect sound quality now that I set up a couple of items in my router. I gave the MagicJack Express a static IP address and then forwarded ports 5060 and 5070. Prior to that, I was only choppy once in a while. Now it is crystal clear! I suggest you get a MagicJack to keep a home phone handy in case your cell phone doesn't work, battery is dead, or a small child lives with you that might need to call for help. It is a cheap insurance policy. Don't forget to add 911 service online in your account. You can't beat it! Oh, you also get unlimited local and long distance calling and the free smart phone app that rings simultaneously with your MagicJack at home, all included for the same price.

HIghly Recommended
Been using MagicJack (MJ) Express for a week, and it has been flawless. Before making the switch from my 2 POTS landlines, I read many articles and reviews, and watched many videos about the various MJ models. So, I was apprehensive about switching. The thinness of info on the MJ website did not help either. But it turned out that much of what one finds online about MJ is old and does not apply to the latest models. Specifically, I noticed that the MJ site no longer offers the MJ Plus. I eventually realized that the MJ Express is the latest model, and it was claimed that MJ Express had better voice quality, could be used on trips, and would handle fax w/o problems or special arrangements. My MJ Express installed (connected to my OTT DSL) and authorized quickly and without any issues. I opted to get a new phone number thinking that a new number would have been unused for a while, which would diminish nuisance calls. There was some choice in area code and exchange, and I was assigned a number that is easily remembered. Voice quality is better than the old POTS lines (which were good), fax works great (and is compatible with the home answering machine), there is no perceptible ring-answer delay, 3 line-powered phones work fine (as well as cordless phones), home alarm connection works fine, and there have been no undesired incoming calls. And I'm avoiding ~ $75/month for the 2 POTS lines that MJ replaced and avoiding the constant political and solicitation calls that came with them. I also had occasion to use MJโs tech support chat, and it, too, worked great for me. The tech was very polite, knew her stuff, and was thorough. (And I suggest that having a good outcome with MJ chat depends heavily on how clearly and thoroughly one describes his problem.)

Cheap, but good.
This is a great cheap phone service. Sometimes minor glitches, but probably no more than I had with digital phone from the cable company. They're are a few features I wish it had, like call blocking and Amazon Echo compatibility, but I guess you get what you pay for. It's cheap, but good.

I am SOOO glad for the money I am saving with Magic Jack!
I switched from a big-name carrier for my home land-phone, to MagicJack, & so far I couldn't be happier with the service! The land-phone portion of my bundled phone/internet/cable service was costing me about $60/monthly - purchasing this little connector @ $37 gives me 3 months of phone service free, & I intend to then purchase 5 years of service @ $99.95. I also paid a $10 fee to port my old phone number to Magic Jack (a number I'd had for 30 years). So Magic Jack will cost me $146.95 for 5 years & 3 months of service. The big-name carrier I had would have cost me $3,780 for those 63 months of service. I have NO complaints!! I am using the same phone I was using before, a cordless one, & I have had no trouble with any phone calls, can hear conversation quite well, the Magic Jack window that stays open on my computer shows every phone call that comes in, every number that calls - I can click on 'Voicemail' to hear messages & save 'Contact' phone numbers. The computer DOES need to stay ON in order for the phone to work, though it will take messages when it is off. Since I do have a cell phone also, I shut the computer down at night & turn on again each morning, just as I always did. My biggest question to anyone would be: What's NOT to like about saving so much money & still having a home phone?!

Worst customer service ever
Worst customer service ever. Only chat support. I spent from 10 AM until 5PM (less a 45 minute break for lunch) chatting with four tech and 3 advance tech people after my Magicjack stopped receiving or making calls. After 3 weeks, it stopped working, deleted my greeting, change my preferences to outgoing calls only. Since it stopped working it did not forward any calls but it somehow changed the my forwarding selection to enable from disable (I had not been in settings since the day I activated it). It also insert a number to forward to, that turned out to be Disney Global Security. It was also changing my password so I had to ask for a reset every time I tried to get in. It is working now but I never got an explanation for how so many thing could be change or lost. Even at Indian or Philippine labor rates it would have been cheaper for them to just send me a new one than pay techs for seven hours. The charge $13.95 for warranty replacement, a large port in fee, and when you try and leave they charge $30 plus tax to port out. Buy an obi200 voip phone adapter (4.5 stars) for Google phone and never pay for phone again.

Easy to set up/great quality and alt to trad landline phones!
I ordered this wanting to try out having a landline phone in addition to a cellphone. It was very easy to set up. I have it hooked up to my computer, but from what I understand, that is not nessecary., but for now, it is working just fine! I read something after setting it up about not being able to receive incoming calls, but I tested it by first calling the MagicJack from my cell phone, then having my aunt call me from her work phone, and then finally, from her cell phone. All calls came through and the sound quality was great! Iโve been very pleased with Magic Jack so far, and I would recommend purchasing this one over the slightly more expensive one (I think the other one is around $20-$25) ONLY if you have internet access. You also have the option to pick your own number (for a fee of I think $25) and only if that number is available). But it comes with the ability to choose your own number, except for the last three, for no charge (for example, 1-423-0XXX, 1-212-7XXX, and so on). This was the option I chose. Also, it should be noted that you can enter in your cell phone number, and the Magic Jack will forward calls to your cell phone, but that will cost you a one-time fee of $10. Iโm not sure if you can turn that option on and off, but if that is what you are looking for, itโs worth investigating! Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase!

Very Good!
I have owned a MagicJack device for 7 years and It still works. I decided to purchase this new one that does not require a computer to be connected for your phone service, It just needs to connect to an electrical outlet and a router. It performs great and sounds like a regular phone. It only cost around $20 to $30 per year for 24/7 nationwide calling depending on how many years you pay for in advance. I connected it to my computer in Singapore and Taiwan to call back to the US free with no problem. I gave one to a school in Taiwan that was spending $2000 per year in long-distance charges. Now they only pay $30 per year to call the US. I gave one to friends in Nicaragua so we can speak for free 24/7. Skype is free, but the MagicJack does not need a computer and works with any home phone. You just need fair internet service.

Not more monthly payments, plus gov and state fees
I'm very happy with my Magic Jack. I was with BasicTalk for about three years paying every month between $14-$16 services. I done with that. Transfered my phone number when I activated my magic Jack and that set after two days I made my first phone call also received one, and everything was perfect. I was thinking why I was paying attention to some bad comments or suggestions and didn't try it before by myself

Beware: it's USD (it's not CAD)
Beware: you need to do 2 separate renewals. One renewal to use the device. The second is to renew your phone number, if you do not use the number assigned to you. Both renewals are in USD.
