The mailbox post looks great and the UV protection should protect my investment for ...
After staining my Redwood Cedar mailbox post with Varathane Cabernet colored Gel stain and allowing 48 hours cure time I applied the Varathane Spar Urethane in semi-gloss. The clear coat went on smooth and did not leave brush marks or thickened areas. I put a total of 4 coats allowing 8 hours in between coats. The mailbox post looks great and the UV protection should protect my investment for years to come. I have had people actually stop by and ask what I used and how I was able to get such a uniform look. It was easy with Rust-Oleum Varathane products. One tip: Make sure you allow outdoor wood to weather enough to shed its tars and oils. Always use a product specifically designed for outdoor use and make sure its oil-based. Cleanup is a snap with mineral spirits. Oh and use a stain brush for professional results.

Pretty good, tough to apply
I had a very tough application (100% exposure to west side full South Texas sun on an outdoor wooden table). I contacted Them for some guidance, and their technical folks were very responsive. It is tough to apply. I ended up with some brush steaks that could not be felt, only seen. Technical folks said it was from me over brushing. This is a very thick liquid and it takes some effort to put on and still have not figured out to put on without back brushing. Temperature is a factor too. I had to apply before the temp got over 90 deg F which does not take long in the summer to get there. Only time will tell if this will hold up, but I think it looks pretty good. Using semi-gloss with a Wooster brush - 4 coats on top and 3 coats on the bottom.

Impressed with ease of application
First time using this and think I found a go to product for the outdoor furniture when that gets done next! It was easy to use and didn’t thicken up at all! I did keep using a stirring stick proactively. The temperature was 56 degrees out when I stared and almost 80 by the time I finished for the day. It applied evenly and smooth. In between coats I smoothed with fine sandpaper (220 grit or240). My last coat (when it was completely dry and not tacky) I used my secret weapon (brown paper bag) and “sanded” the surface with that. It is just enough courseness needed to smooth the surface. I used this product on mahogany wood. Hope this helps ease your mind as some of the other reviews had me a little nervous to use this product for the first time.

Good product,
We’ve used many oil based varnish’s over the years on various boats. In terms of application and finish this ranks up with the best on interior use.

Amazing price for the spar varnish
Amazing price for the spar varnish. I got the semi-gloss because it was the least expensive and my project turned out great and it does have a semi gloss shine. I had to be patient on the drying time between coats and did one coat a day. I don't think there is really a "fast drying" varnish but of course I have a heavy hand. Have a great day!

Rust-Oleum is the point name to consider for Coatings and urethanes
It's almost funny to write a review about polyurethane when you should be writing a review 5 years or whatever is the average used case under normal exposure conditions. But thus far after having completed a refinishing project and a added coding project on something else I have to say the Rustoleum family of products from sprays to Coatings and primers have been consistent and good. When I've had some customer service concerns on some other product offerings they discontinued unrelated to this they were very responsive.
