Carbon Fiber Quick Lock Trekking Pole

Just got back from an overnight backpacking trip and I'm really glad I decided to get these poles. When you've got everything you need for camping strapped to your back, it makes you pretty top-heavy, and it's really nice to have the extra balance trekking poles afford. Stepping over fallen logs is just one great example. The terrain was pretty steep on my hike, and they helped going both uphill and down. You just give yourself a little more oomph and a lot more stability, not to mention a convenient thing to lean on when you need to catch your breath. Poles are good for your ankles and knees, especially when hiking longer distances. Make sure you load them enough (put enough weight on them) to take some of the pressure off of your lower joints. You'll get a better workout that way, too. I don't do a ton of distance, but I appreciated that they helped me not roll an ankle when negotiating obstacles. These poles specifically have all the features you really need. Made of carbon fiber, so they're light and strong; they have durable carbide tips but also come with several types of rubber feet and baskets if you need/prefer to use them; they use quick-locks which are easy and very secure; and they even have cork handles which are usually found on higher-end poles (cork absorbs sweat to prevent slipping and hand blisters). These are the only poles in this price range that I know of that have all these great features. The only quibble I have is they tend to rattle a little bit when they hit the ground. I imagine that's just a result of the carbon fiber sections nesting together, and maybe it's true of all trekking poles. But it is slightly annoying. Also, from personal experience, put the little baskets on (the bigger ones are for snow). Every so often I speared my poles about 6 inches deep into soft ground or muck, which isn't helpful. That can also happen in sand or even gravel. So I'm going to just leave them on all the time from now on. Other than that, the bare carbide tips worked great on the trail. I'm going to save the rubber feet for pavement.

First, I am not a hiker (by any stretch of the imagination). I have spinal issues and have difficulty walking any distance. I am that woman who grabs a cart in the parking lot at the store to help me get around. I LOVE these poles!! They are very easy to use once you get the hang of them. They are easy to adjust consistently with the markings printed on the poles, and the thumb latches can be tightened or loosened to facilitate that. When you get them it is important to take the time to figure out the proper height, adjust the hand straps (the hardest part for me), and technique for using them. I found a number of videos on YouTube which helped (and were better than the manufacturer's tutorials). The different feet are easy to switch out and you really do want to use them - they definitely help! I find them particularly good when walking on an uneven surface. I think it's probably the position my back is in (slightly tilted forward) that reduces the pain I experience when walking. They are lightweight but sturdy and easily slide in and out of the well constructed carrying bag. I keep them in my car because they come in useful when going to an outdoor concert on the lawn, if all the handicapped parking spaces are taken, etc. An additional plus is that I was able to use my medical coverage's wellness reimbursement benefit to pay for them (which I'm generally unable to use). I have no idea how these would work for serious hiking but they are helping this 64 yo woman continue to lead an enjoyable independent life. I am SO glad I purchased them!!

I've long put off trekking poles because they're goofy and one more thing to carry and pack. Who needs 'em? But at 45, my knees have been killing me especially when loaded up, and especially on descents. After doing some research, these were the consensus first pole to try at a lot of backpacking groups I'm part of. Oh my god. It's like having a jet pack strapped on your back. I move twice as fast with what feels like half the effort. Level ground, uphill, downhill, it just makes everything easier. Plus, they're just handy. Great for stabilizing your camera taking shots, you can prop up a tarp to open up your camp, you can stick them in the ground and hang a hoodie on it, all kinds of stuff. I'm 6'2" and 250 pounds... they easily adjusted to my stride and the adjustments held firm. I like that the grip has three different hand positions so you can switch things up and grip up or down based on going up hill or down. The cork grips feel great and keep your hands dry. The various cups and tip covers are great for a variety of surfaces. And they are light and STRONG. I used them to polevault over a few ditches and streams and they easily supported my bulk. I can't imagine going on any serious hike without them again. I can't imagine paying more for a trek pole, either. What else do you need? Suspension? Pffffff... These are perfect.

These are a great value for trekking poles. No - they're not $130 Leki poles but these are an extreme value for this kind of money. They're carbon, which offsets the weight of the other components giving you a nice light pole. Are there lighter carbons? Sure, there are - but these guys lowered the cost by using heavier less expensive hardware components and then offset that a lot by using a standard grade carbon and that works out really well - they hit a sweet spot with this. I would say this is suitable for the person that hikes about 10 miles once or twice a week. I usually do 30 on fire trails, canals, and craggy cliffs - and if I did more than that per week I'd probably upgrade but I'm perfectly happy with these right now. I've put about 108 miles on theses sticks and passed with flying colors other than a little water stain on the cork which all cork does and I actually could have avoided if I used the U-40 cork seal that I use on my fishing rods - I was just lazy. Anyway I've added some photos so you can see what you get - all of the usual baskets and tips. These are carbide on the tip and they are pretty much standard so nothing to call out there. The locks are sturdy and held up well on through daily use for a few weeks that I was putting a lot of miles under my feet preparing for a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. They do have some vibration but it doesn't bother me even on 3 hour hikes. This is expected since these aren't suspension poles. The cork is excellent and the EVA foam meets it at the bottom and swells out which makes a perfect place for the V between your thumb and index finger to rest - just hanging on the strap at the wrist it allows you to maintain control, swing the poles in cadence and grab quickly when you need to. I can't tell you how good this is for fatigue. The EVA foam is generously long for climbing up steep trails. Overall very happy with the performance, and even happier with the price point - home run guys. Oh and these do collapse down to min 25 inches. However, you can pull the sections apart without breaking it and it's easy to get back together. If you remove the sections your longest section will be 19 3/4 for packing so should fit in most med to large luggage and should straddle nicely along most daypacks or 3 day bags.

I went hiking this Thursday/Friday for the first time with trekking poles, the difference between hiking with and without is mind-blowing. I was less tired when I got to the end of the day, I didn't have to work nearly as hard to get uphill, my balance was much better as I could use the poles to stabilize me. If you're thinking about getting trekking poles but are asking yourself if you really need them, the answer is yes. You do. Because you will feel 10x better at the end of the day. I ordered the ones with the cork grips which felt very nice in my palm, the straps are also comfortable although there was some minor chafing on the webbing between my thumb and pointer fingers. The poles are very easily adjusted and come with a few different tips, as well as two different kinds of baskets; one for snow and the other for sand. Baskets stop the poles from going too far into the ground. Out of the packaging the poles already have a pair of rubber feet on them. If you're doing trail hiking, take these off, the metal underneath them is what you should be using for that application. I've seen a few reviews where the users are complaining of the rubber tips tearing to pieces, its because they aren't designed for that. Also, make sure you research how to use the poles correctly. The straps are supposed to spread the weight evenly throughout your arms while the poles themselves provide support and balance, there's a very helpful video on Youtube titled; Trekking poles: How to adjust and use straps, if you search for that its the first video with the lady wearing a red shirt. I love these things, I don't think I'll ever go on another hike without them :)

My arthritis has made it difficult to walk long distances. I have used a cane in the past but find these give me more stability enabling me to walk further and on uneven surfaces. They adjust easily and are sturdy so I feel safe when walking. They also have helped me gain and maintain strength which makes walking less painful. I purchased these on the recommendation of my PT who worked with me to get the most benefit from them. I’m very glad that I purchased these poles!

Comprehensive reviews for this product are already written this is just my quick thoughts for someone whose looking for some beginner poles to use. Snap/Quick Lock Feature - The quick lock feature is miles above a twist lock feature on trekking poles. Please do not waste your money with twist locks which will fail over usage or eventually stop working all together. Yes, these are more expensive than some of your $15-30.00 twist lock poles but their effectiveness is going to be far superior. Pole Material - These are mostly carbon fiber, are light in weight, and have great stability. This really becomes effective and noticeable on longer treks. My first experience with these poles was on a 14 mile day hike and these never seemed cumbersome or heavy to use. Final Thoughts - I never recommend people spending too much when first getting into a hobby. For example... You don't need trekking poles. However, if you're looking to invest a little bit more into your hiking hobby these are a good set of starter poles. You can get these for < $40 if you catch them on a deal or on another website but for $40? They're worth it in my opinion. Happy trails! -edit- 100+ mile review - these poles have been to hell in back... Bright Angel, Baldy Loop, Uintah Highline, and various day hikes. Unfortunately, on my last trip these poles were left out with the elements (and the animals) and a deer had an early morning snack on one of the handles. Oh well, they served well for that time and I am sure I will be picking these up again.

I really like these compared to a lot of others I've bought. Sturdy and comfortable. The strap was very comfortable for a guy my size.

Love these! My only criticism would be that the straps are not purposely Left and Right. Consequently one always has a twist in it. Otherwise I love them.
