Textile Designs: Two Hundred Years of European and American Patterns Organized by Motif, Style, Color, Layout, and Period [Susan Meller, Joost Elffers] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Textile Designs: Two Hundred Years of European and American Patterns Organized by Motif, Style, Color, Layout, and Period Review: Incredible reference book with unsurpassable quality - An amazing reference book for textile and surface designers, this book is full of thousands of full-color images, printed on high quality paper, with the designs organized in logical and intelligent ways according to type. Each design is individually labeled, with brief descriptions. Invaluable as a reference! Review: Helpful Resource for classifying fabrics - I was pleasantly surprised at the photographic examples of fabric. Being a Civil War reenactor, trying to recreate fashion of that era, this book is very helpful. It is categorized by years, shows examples of CDVs, as well as classifying by colors and types of fabric. I am not a quilter, but there are 8 patterns included for reproduction quilt projects, if that interests you. This book was well worth it's purchase price as it is a valuable resource.

HUGE, comprehensive, and so inspiring!
The typical art books I purchase are about 100 pages, soft bound- fairly thin, but comprehensive. This book was SUCH a great surprise. It's REALLY, REALLY thick (textbook thick, if not more at almost 500 pages), and just FULL of images of textiles from the last 200 years. It certainly *is* a catalog of sorts- every glossy page is covered in full-color images of the details of the textile design, plus pertinent information about the design, the region, etc. This is more of a visual resource than an informational guide to textile design, but if you are remotely interested in textiles or surface design or pattern, this book is pure eye candy.

High Quality Reference Book
This book is everything I expected in a great reference book. The swatch samples are nice and crisp. It's a must have for any textile or surface pattern designer.

So great!!
This was a special birthday book request from my textile artist daughter. When I found a good hardback used copy for a really fair price, this book seller got it there on time AND artistically wrapped it in a sheet of wall paper which was such a nice touch Thanks so much for going the extra mile and making it special.

I purchased the book in order to learn names of endless textile patterns and colors. I need it for the descriptions of clothing items selling on eBay, because I prefer to describe my merchandise in full palate language. Definitely, the book is more than enough for my eBay idea. This is like an album of the paintings of your favorite painter or Museum of Arts. Also I found the textile patterns from the book have power of relaxants. Before go to sleep enough to look at 5-10-15 pages of the world of textile and fatigue, disappointment, all negative of the day are just thawing.

This book does not provide the reader with examples of contemporary designs and it's definitely not as inspirational as I believed it to be. Said this, it still remains an excellent source. It's a collection of the most widespread printed fabric in use from the 19th to the 20th century in the mid-range fashion market of both US and Europe. It's an extremely useful glossary of patterns names and a go-to technical reference of immense value.
