Yes, they would be okay but it depends on how long the fruit and liquid will sit inside the container. They are great for serving soup but not for holding soup overnight or for long periods of time. Our plastic containers would probably be a better choice if the fruit needs to sit for a few hours in the container.

Are these suitable for storing home made ice cream in the freezer?

Absolutely. I've used these tubs for exactly that purpose and have bought hundreds of them, and they are perfect for ice cream. I wouldn't recommend washing them out and re-using them as they lose a bit of their strength once you do that, but they are very good for a one time use, and won't let you down.
