Personnel includes: Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Pharrell. Producers: Ahmir Thompson, The Roots, Alex Coletti. Recorded live at MTV Studios, New York, New York on November 18, 2001. Audio Mixers: Questlove; Richard Nichols; Russell Elevado. Recording information: MTV Studios, Times Square, New York, NY (12/18/2001). Director: Milt Lage. Photographer: Walik Goshorn. Following the success of Blueprint, Jay-Z took a break from the studio productions of Timbaland and Just Blaze and stepped into acoustic surroundings for a taped edition of MTV's long-running Unplugged series. With the talents of the Roots as his backing band, Jay-Z fails to miss a step and feels just as comfortable in the unplugged arena as he does with drum machines and a mixing desk in front of him. The skills of Roots drummer Ahmir Thompson emulate even the slightest nuance from the originally programmed electronic beats, and Jay-Z fails to take this for granted, gently shifting from one song to the next in medley form with ease. With a strong track listing spanning his entire career of chart-topping hits, this album is the perfect introduction to Jay-Z's prolific catalog and a fun listen for the most dedicated of fans. ~ Rob Theakston Review: Great album highly recommend - Great album definitely a classic in my book Review: Best album by Jay Z bar none - to me this is Jay z best album. Captures his artistry better then anything else he has ever put out. I have gotten to the point where I just can not take hip hop seriously any more but this is unlike anything you hear on the radio now a days. the roots playing behind him and jay letting his words shine without all of the BS that comes along with current hip hop. I just wish I was there to witness it and see it live. To me this album is the best mtv unplugged album of all time, and i like i said before, easily Jay Z best album

Great acoustic set
I bought this many years ago when I was a newer fan of Jay Z. It's an acoustic CD and it really helped me to not only learn the words but discover new songs I hadn't known about. If you are a Jay Z fan I definitely recommend purchasing this.

A Great Live Hip Hop Album
Jay-Z agreed with MTV to record an intimate live session with fans with the help of The Roots band and Jaguar Wright with a special guest appearance by Mary J. Blige to perform the classic `Can't Knock the Hustle'. The result is a short but sweet CD with Jay not missing a beat. While most mainstream rappers need flashy lights and naked dancers at concerts to spark excitement, all Jay needs is a mic and an audience. You can tell the crowd is excited to be there (even through the CD) and they sing along and interact with one of the all time greats. It is somewhat a promo spot for his recently released at the time `The Blueprint', but it's also a summary of his career up to that point. If you're a fan of Jay-Z then this is a must buy because it shows his love for the game, and even an emotional moment when he performs `Song Cry'. Don't miss the bonus track `People Talkin' produced by Just Blaze that follows after `Jigga, Jigga'. (3.5/5 mics)

It seems like a few tunes cut out before completion
A masterful album. A tremendous live performance. I missed the original airing on MTV. It seems like a few tunes cut out before completion. Left me wanting MORE fantasticness
