Excellent Prep for 642-902 ROUTE test
I just took and passed the 642-902 ROUTE test. I used this book exclusively to prepare.I took the time and effort to methodically work through every chapter and every example. Using dynagen/dynamips (the free GNS router simulator) I simulated as many of the examples as possible. I am certain that kind of preparation helped get me through the test. But, from what I saw of the questions on the test, all the material needed to answer the questions is contained within this book. I have had the misfortune in the past to study from a book that did not adequately cover the material that was on the test. This book did.I have held a CCNP for almost 9 years having first obtained it in 2004. I work for a Consulting company that is a Cisco partner and work with much of this technology on a continual basis. However, there are some technologies that I rarely if ever use. For instance, I have never done anything with IPv6. Much of what I learned came from this book which I found to be an excellent primer for IPv6. And every IPv6 question I saw in the test could be answered by know the material in this text.I've read a complaints that the chapters are too long. The chapter on IPv6 was 200 pages. My response is "So what". That is way we have bookmarks to keep track of where we are in a book.I read the comment about the SIA mistake in the book. I have not gone back to look at that example to validate the error. Probably a valid assessment by the other reviewer. But that is hardly enough of a reason to shy away from this book.If you buy this book and put in the time, you should be able to pass the 642-902 ROUTE test.

Amazon, Excellent Service
Bought both the certification and foundational CCNP guides. The Route by Diane Teare is excellent for studying or reference. However the copy received lacked a CD (strange the certification guides come with CDs). Actually all books in the foundational series don't have a companion CD. The book reads well, but Teare previous edition had a nice lab, that carried forward from rip, eigrp and ospf excercises. Don't like the fact that additional appendices must be downloaded.Except for the above it's a book that helps makes sense of the messssh networks out there. Gonna hang on to this book for a very long time.Amazon's service is excellent, and deliveries are within schedule. Actually pre-ordered the foundational kit online, Amazon kept me updated on the publisher delays hence opted for the individual foundational books instead of the kit.Good Service but exceptional delivery times.

I passed exam with this book
I had difficulty following initially; at times it would feel like all bullet points but has good flow.Once I got the flow, I was able to follow better. She is a good technical writter.Good:. covers all chapters in depth. It is not just pages from Cisco's web site. Repeating the same point 2-3 times in different words to make it a pointI have read some reviews that says that this book does not come with lab guides, but I have not felt that wayCould be better:. if there was a single network that was used on all demonstration, it would make understanding easier. There are times when this is not possible, but that method was not even attempted.

Most accurate Cisco Press book I have read!
Let me start off by saying that I am using this book as my primary resource to study for the 642-902 but I have not yet taken the exam.I have taken a few Cisco exams now and have used Cisco Press books for every one. This is the first book I have read where I didn't become confused due to errors in the text. I love the fact that the authors actually took the time to show examples of errors within the Cisco IOS official documentation. The reason I did not give this book 5 stars is the lack of PDFs that all the other books had. It appears that the supplemental appendices are only available online.

Great Book for all Levels
In my opinion, the best part of the book is the IPV6 coverage and route redistribution. Both of these topics are covered very well too even meet the CCIE R/S requirements for both of these subjects. The IPv6 section is covered much better than it is on the CCIE R/S 4th edition book. Finally, Cisco raised the level of knowledge for CCNP as the CCNP should be considered as a possible path to CCIE studies. Overall, other Ciscopress books should follow the detailed level of knowledge presented here and not a repeat of the Cisco documentation.I used GNS3 for all the scenarios. I found the usual typos and one error. But because it is a great package, I still it give a 5.

Perfect study guide for CCNP Route course
Five reasons to buy this book:1. This book is well writen, so easy reading.2. Every topic is fully covered and can be easily understand.3. Every sample is described in detail with highlighting all significant lines in commands output.4. All parameters of each command are explained many times (so you don't have to search the book for the first entry).5. 45$ for 900+ pages (and nearly 100 pages of online available appendixes) is a great bargain.P.S. From time to time (often in chapter 7) you'll find the prase "... is beyond the scope of this book". Some can consider this as a drawback, others - as an invitation to learn more.

Good book for CCNP
Better than the cert prep only books even though this is a cert prep book too. Good depth and I can't remember finding any typos at all. I am CCNP now. Book is very very very long though and I got burned out towards the end (thanks to it's depth). Not a bad thing though. I made it through BGP and used INE for the rest with their vids. I would for sure buy this book again. It will serve as a great reference down the road also.

Waisted paper
I bought this book because it should be the official documentation used on Cisco Netacad CCNP V6.0 courses. The book is full of errors, bad information and information presented is incomplete .From place to place you find pieces of information just slightly related with the subject, and big issues are treated superficial.I am not a native English speaker, and I find difficult to follow this book because it lacks the technical logic. There is a lot of references to basic CCNA knowledge /skill but there are too many (nice thing), that you lose track of the main subject. There is no electronic format / no labs / no sim-exam engine. If you are enrolled to a CCNP course at Netacad , you can fill the lack of labs with Cisco's labs, but some are pathetic. My recommendation - buy Odom's book CCNP Official Certification Guide

Electronic version with same errors as advised on publisher errata web page
Considering this is an electronic version, surely the publisher could more easily incorporate the errata errors they publish on their web site.

a hard read
It's a hard read because so much information is included. It's very thorough and I wonder how much information is added as extra info not required for an exam. Saying that it leaves little unturned, and I would recommend it for anyone that expects a subject matter book to be complete.
