Small Eco Houses: Living Green in Style

Really like it. It's amazing what people have done. Nice descriptions and pictures. Lots of great ideas. I was surprised at how much is in this book.

I got this as a Christmas present for my father. He's a general contractor particularly enjoys contemporary homes. While the book is a paperback, the paper is good quality heavy paper, so it should have some lasting power and the pictures are clear and crisp. Unlike a home plan book, each house has a fairly lengthy write-up which includes some of the construction details. This is a nice plus for someone like my father. The houses have different types of 'green' solutions and each write up discusses the house's particular solution and focus. There's a nice variety of locations, architects, and conditions (hot and cold weather, rural and urban), so it's a nice little overview of small eco-housing solutions and ideas. The book also covers a variety of architectural styles with a pronounced lean towards contemporary open floor plans (perhaps inevitable given the size of the homes). In my case, it's a good match for my father's preferences, but if you're looking for more traditional styles this book might not be as much to your taste. If you have a liking for Spanish or Mediterranean styles, this is a definite pass, since that's one building style this book pretty much completely missed.

Although it is most photos (which I very much like) it was very well focused into details and features pointing, it provided details on particular items or design ideas. Excellent book one of the best so far! Love Cristina Paredes B.'s editing intervention.

I was really looking forward to this book. The small house concept really intrigues me. But as others have mentioned, half of this book is houses over 1500 sq ft. Some of the houses are not houses at all, but 800 or 100 sq ft additions. I would have also liked to see more pictures of the design detail that addresses small house challenges such as storage. There are very few closets shown or explained. In all I enjoyed the first half of the book.

This book has excellent photos and many interesting houses. Some of the houses are small vacation type properties, while others are for normal small family living - so interesting my mother- in- law ordered her own copy!

Great ideas page after page! XLNT images. A friend in Santa Ana is building an "Eco-hotel" in Colombia and I got another copy for her! She loves it! Her property is now 90% done!

Nice book

This book provides a good survey of the types of eco houses out there, from the smallest least expensive struture to the largest. However, it does not go into much detail and in the end is little more than a pretty picture book.
