Will this work on 50' boat if not which of their products if any will?

For this size vessel, the range for this product will not work alone. Interferences can be caused by the construction of the hull of the vessel, depending on which material it''s made of.

Will these work even if I lose cell service? When I go 40 miles offshore?

Good question, we have been 30 miles off shore with ours and did not notice an issue. I believe they work like Navionics using GPS. We typically us cell service around 9 or 10 miles offshore here in Texas.

Does the app have to be open & in foreground? Will the alarm sound if the phone is in silent mode, or volume low? Is there an alt. base or just phone?

System works with phone silent and closed. Not sure about a base unit.
