Great Kayak Paddles
I've rented kayaks in the past. I enjoy it so much that I picked up two used models. They didn't come with paddles though. So I bought a set of these Shorelines for my wife and I and couldn't be happier. The price was right, and their quality and performance match or exceed paddles costing twice as much. They are lightweight for extended outings on the water and work well with our Ocean Kayaks. 96" is the perfect length for my wife and I. I also like the adjustable drip guards and padded hand grips. The paddles quickly arrived safe and sound, shipped in a sturdy box. They come broken down in two pieces for easier transportation and click together solidly, giving you the option of three different paddle positions. The aluminum handle is very sturdy, as are the plastic scoops. These enter the water cleanly really help propel you along. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend them to novice kayakers looking for something affordable over a base model paddle. ~ Kort

Great Design and Quality
I bought this 2 years ago and have probably used it around 80 times. I've bought a couple other inexpensive paddles in that time but they don't compare in any way to this one. The design is very efficient for paddling, it's reasonably light for this price range and very well made. I break it down every time I load up and the spring on the connector is still holding strong. Nothing has corroded and I almost always paddle in saltwater. I've sprayed the paddling surfaces a few times with NeverWet, which works pretty well. By repelling water and keeping the paddle dry, it reduces weight while paddling. I can't be sure that the thin layer of air caused by the hydrophobic coating doesn't reduce paddling efficiency but it's certainly a neat trick. I'll admit it was only thirty-two bucks when I bought it but up to (at least) fifty I'd say it's still a good value.

good paddle for the money
I've now used this paddle for about three 1-hour lake trips and overall, I like it. I was skeptical about the click-together joining of the two sections, but it seems to hold well and there's no perceivable movement between the 2 sections. The pull feels solid and makes it easy to track and for a low-priced paddle, it gives a solid feel with good water entry and exit. I don't like the drip rings, so they've now been cut off. On my 2nd outing, the foam pad on one side came loose and would slide up and down on the shaft - not a good thing when pulling hard! While annoying at the time, the fix of squirting a little Gorilla Glue between the pad and the shaft on each end seems to have fixed it. In all, this is a great buy for what appears to be a high quality, well designed product at a great price.

Perfect paddle for an excellent price.
I looked all around our local stores to purchase a paddle for my kayak. The prices ranged from $80.00 to some higher crazy numbers. This paddle is comfortable to hold for long periods of time. The length and width of the ends glide through water with little effort from me. I also love that it comes apart for easy storage in my car. Don't let the low price fool you into thinking this is a cheap paddle because its not. I recently went out on a friend kayak with their paddle. I found that it worked just the same as mine and yet he paid $80 for the same item in a local store. I can also compare it to another paddle that I purchased at a local big chain store. I needed a 2nd paddle immediately so I picked one up at this store. When I looked at it, I thought is seemed the same as my Shoreline; the price was about the same. However, once in the water I did notice a big difference and wasn't very happy with my purchase. I have decided to order a 2nd one of the Shoreline's and return to other.

Ok paddle but not stable enough for extended use.
Really just kind of ok paddles. Yes they do save you a ton of money instead of buying the $200 fiberglass paddles but I think there are better out there. I will say they are fairly light paddles and very easy to use in the water when the issues below aren't presenting themselves. The problems we have run into is that the two pieces do not stay locked together very well after attaching them. We like to float down rivers and at times when the water gets a bit hairy these have a tendency to come undone. The foam grips are nice but slide everywhere along the paddle which can be a real pain. These will probably end up taking a spot as a reserve paddle or a "just in case" paddle after we look around and try something else.

Great price for a good paddle
I've been using this paddle while I save up enough money to buy a better paddle. This paddle has been working great for me. It is actually very light compared to other, more expensive aluminum paddles. The two pieces snap in together well and there is not much slippage, meaning that the two pieces don't wobble much when clipped together. The padding on the shaft is very comfortable and prevents you from touching the cold or hot aluminum shaft (depending on the weather of course). The padding also doesn't rub your hands raw like I thought it would. It is very comfortable. The drip rings that come with the paddle aren't that great. Mine were deformed and did not stay in one place very well. They seemed a bit too big for the shaft diameter. Also; the paddles themselves do not seem very durable. This is probably why the paddle is so light. They haven't broken on me and I don't expect them to, BUT I don't think they could withstand much abuse. The paddles flex fairly easily which may be a concern for durability and efficiency. Despite the cons, this kayak paddle works very well, and for the price, its hard to beat. I would highly recommend this paddle to people who don't have a lot to spend on new gear or for people who need a cheap backup. This paddle has been working so well; I'm in no hurry to get a better one.

being much more curved much more like a newer model of paddle vs the almost canoe ...
I've got an older model kayak that came with an older model paddle, though it was expensive way back when. I wanted to have a spare paddle but not spend a bunch of money since it was going to be a spare. When it came the shape of the paddle part is totally different , being much more curved much more like a newer model of paddle vs the almost canoe paddle looking one I already had so I tried it out to see if it will be harder on my body to use long term trips. What I found was the ergonomics of it actually make it easier on my body and it, not sure if I'm writing this correctly but, seems to make my strokes more natural and I find my core muscles and hips tending to follow the proper motions without thinking about it thus I've actually gotten more power and results per stroke while at the same time less stressful on me after long trips. When paddling into the wind the paddle seems to be less cumbersome between strokes as well,I guess due to the more rounded spoon like shape. Today's venture was on a lake with 15mph steady winds with gusts to 35mph and I noticed 0 problem with the paddle in the wind. I use a straight style, not 1 up/1 down , the paddle being clipped into the center hole. I also splashed a whole lot LESS water into the boat and in myself because my strokes never seemed to get out of whack and I end up splashing myself. The wind blew a few drops in but none that I caused by user error like I used to get. Time will tell how sturdy the paddle is it being plastic wings vs the aluminum of my other paddle but at under $40 shipped it has made a positive impact in my paddle strokes while also not adding any weight or girth to what I am used to. For those that want a light paddle that is pretty easy to use for a nice price this one will for the criteria.

good for lakes but not for rivers!!!!
I bought one of these, paddled across a lake, enjoyed it, and bought a 2nd one. i have a 2 man kayak. this weekend was the 5th time my kayak went out but the first time it went on a river that has twists and bends. the river level was low and we dragged across the gravel on occasion. i knew that this paddle was way too flimsy to push off the gravel to get us going so i didn't even try BUT my friend in the front of the kayak didn't know that. SNAP...he broke that paddle blade in half on his first push off the gravel. it didn't take much effort at all. he felt bad about it. 10 minutes later...SNAP...he broke the other side of the paddle blade pushing off gravel again. what is odd is that now that both sides were broken, the paddle can actually be used to push off the shallow gravel bottom while i could paddle through deeper water with my intact paddle. it kind of worked out. now there were other kayaks that passed us by and did the same thing as we did but their paddles didn't break. they were rental equipment by the outfitter and they were very durable and likely thousands of people every summer used that same kayak paddle, abused it, and it never broke. ah ha. I want one of those paddles! the blades were yellow and were much thicker and robust than these shoreline blades. i called the outfitter, bass river resort here in missouri, and they use carlisle paddles. i see one online for $61 and it looks just like the ones that they rent. so, its a few dollars more but i'm willing to pay for something that wont completely break when using it normally and more importantly wont leave me stranded on a creek with a broken paddle. the paddle blades one these shoreline paddles wobble/vibrate when you pull them out of the water after a good stroke. the plastic is thin and flaps around a bit. the blades themselves are held on by one small pop-rivet. the construction does not instil confidence. its cheaply made but its probably perfect for lakes, flat water, and young kids. if you are pushing off gravel or trying to prevent an impact with a root ball in flowing water, this is not a good choice.
