A simple, effective in-line volume control. (Not an amplifier!)
This review is for "Volbox inline audio volume control attenuator 3.5mm 1/8" aux". I purchased this volume control to use with a few AM/FM radios that were designed in such a way that the volume was either muted or too loud. With the Volbox control set up inline between my headphones and the radio, I was able to bring the volume from the radio down to a much more appropriate level. The Volbox is very simple and effective. It's important to note that this little device does not make the audio louder than what is being output by the source - it's meant only for adjusting the volume to be as loud as or quieter than the source volume. The only complaint I have about it is that it feels a bit fragile, and I worry that eventually the 3.5mm jacks could come loose. But for now it works nicely.

This Thing is Brilliant!
I'm using this as a hand controlled volume pedal for various effect pedals that I use with my synth. Works wonderfully. I really love the smoothness, the subtle amount of resistance it has while turning, and the small form factor. As I saw others mentioning, you can still hear a tiny, tiny bit of the sound on the lowest setting, but for my needs it doesn't really matter. The cuteness of this thing accommodates for that.

perfectly simple
pros: -satisfying knob. it has the right amount of tension to it. -compact design -clear white on black labeling. no frills. -no static (none that i notice anyhow). cons: -turning the knob all the way down does not silence the audio. there's still a bit of noise that comes through. i am very picky about audio levels, and this thing is a game changer. i usually have the audio at 4% on my windows PC, and i always need to mess around with the mixer levels and such. i taped this thing to my desk and my ears are happy.

Excellent Piece of Kit
I have been extremely pleased with this little device. It has served it's purpose well, and gives me greater control over my listening experience. A little extra perk, is that the internal resistance of the Volvox is sufficient to remove the noise that high-end headphones can express. A good item.

Amazing, simple box. Adds fine tuned volume control to our subwoofer
This product is not very complex, but thats exactly what you want. Simple, fewer failure points. It does not have anything super intricate inside [we checked, so you don't have to,] and is a very simple device. The durability feels quite good for something so cheap. Sound quality has not degraded, even with me changing input/output 4 times. (Soundbar: RCA -> Aux, Aux -> Volbox, Volbox: Aux -> RCA, RCA -> Subwoofer.) We would have preferred there to be an RCA version of this box, but with no discernable sound degradation despite 4 transmission changes, it is wonderful as is. Our subwoofer goes up to 11 (literally) and even at 3 it is shaking much of the room. We got this little device to add more fine tuned control over our sub volume. It works wonders. The dial feels very responsive and intuitive, and it has volume indicators at half point intervals, up to full 10. We are now able to keep our sub at 5.5, with the volbox set between 3.5 and 5 depending on media or game. Overall, this is a fantastic device, and I could not recommend it more. If your sub has too little fine control over its volume, or if you simply fancy having a dial to turn on your desk rather than the sub, get this Volbox. You won't regret it.

What you need to know before buying.
It works but here’s what you should know. It basically goes from zero to 60 in about a 1/3 of a turn. If you have it turned all the way down there’s no volume at all but it’s at full volume by the time you turn it to about 30%. I got lucky and this works for my purposes because I don’t need to really fine tune my volume. I use it for sound effects for a podcast so I usually keep it turned up all the way, which is around 1/3 of the way, and I use it to fade out music or whatever I’m playing. So for me it works great but depending on your application it might not for you. A few reviews explain why it works this way and why everyone should already know that and blah blah blah. But the bottom line is who cares why it does that? It just does it, it really doesn’t matter why. I’d have probably given it 5 stars if it faded the entire turn. It’s a really good size, I stuck it to the base on my mic stand. If you are looking at it right side up the plugs are on the bottom which may or may not bother you depending on how you mount it. Mine is sorta mounted upside down but it doesn’t matter, clockwise is still louder, I’m just starting at like 2 o’clock instead of 8 o’clock. Sound quality it fine, zero noticeable noise. It feels fairly cheap but it is cheap. If it was expensive I’d expect it to be aluminum instead of plastic.

High quality unit
I am IMPRESSED. A rarity these days. I was expecting to get another cheap feeling piece of junk. This volume control is SOLID. It turns very smoothly, with a bit of resistance like a good/old piece of stereo equipment. The jacks are really snug. They grip the connector very well. No slop or jiggle. Very positive feel when plugging or unplugging. It takes a bit of effort. My only knock is that I'm using this to control a pair of headphones and about the only bottom 1/3 of the control is usable. I knew that going in though. Headphones are a much lower impedance than a line level source. But with the smooth control, it's easy to dial in the right volume. The other plus is that the knob is held on with a set screw. I was able to mount the volume control then re-position the knob on the shaft so that I could easily see the level mark. BTW, I used a right-angle Startech aux cable for the input and it wraps around the body and gives it a nice look.
