Buy Rust Programming Language, The: (Covers Rust 2018) by Klabnik, Steve, Nichols, Carol (ISBN: 9781718500440) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Great book - Rust is quite complex imo, so not for the faint hearted in some ways. You do need a bit of programming experience first, but it's not too daunting if you are ok at least at any one language. This is the first book in ages that I've actually wanted to keep reading, I'm about half way through, and learning a lot. It's all introduced at about the right pace, and doesn't dwell on anything too much to bore you. Definitely should be added if you want to learn about Rust. Review: Great intro to Rust - The best starter book for a programmer looking to get into Rust for the first time. It’s perfectly paced, clearly written, and has just enough information to get you up and running without bogging you down in more advanced features. I suggest typing along with the demo code and compiling to get the language into your fingers and brain. I bought this to help the authors get a little income, but it must be said that the free web version of the book on the Rust site is more up-to-date with some clearer examples. After completing this I strongly recommend O’Reilly’s Programming Rust: Fast, Safe Systems Development which will fill in the gaps with more detail along with some really clever worked examples. A combination of both books will get you up and running in idiomatic Rust. Devs experienced in the C family or related languages may wish to jump straight to the O’Reilly book, but be warned, it’s pretty fast paced! The Rust Programming Language book is an easier ride to help cement in the basics.

Best programming book I've ever read
Having read a vast swathe of programming books during lockdown including popular golang books. I have to say, this is by far the best I've read, and really in keeping with my whole experience of rust thus far. Amazing work from both steve and carol.

A good book for learning Rust
It’s a great book for someone to learn Rust who has previous experience in a C like language. Programmers with a Python or Basic background might find it a bit of a stretch

Well written
This is a very well written book which leads you into each topic feeling comfortable with the explanations - best read if you understand some basic programming concepts (functions etc). My only issue is that in every chapter so far they give you a listing of code, which you start to read and mentally log, only for the author to say afterwards that you shouldn’t do it this way! This is a little frustrating as you start to familiarise yourself with code blocks they suddenly change up on the next page. I would prefer if they show you the best solution first and then the alternatives.

Excellent
This is ‘the’ book for Rust. Buy others as well, but this is a perfect starting point. It may be freely available in electronic form elsewhere (including the actual Rust website), but I’ve always found paper books to be a better learning tool than anything read from a screen.

Christmas Gift for Older Brother - Quick to arrive; pristine condition; good for programming!
Hello! I'm very happy to say this arrived in less than two weeks, in pristine conditions. I bought it for my older brother, who's studying programming. I'm sorry I can't tell you for sure how good the book is in that regard, but since it was the first thing in the list of possible Christmas gifts he'd like for this year, I assume it must be important!

liked the good introduction to Rust -- still a bit steep for novices

[8/25/19] A few chapters in and the book is well-written and easy to follow. It gives great explanations and doesn't often leave you wondering. Where it does, however, it makes a point of mentioning that more will follow. The only criticism, currently, is that the book does not seem written for new coders. While explanations are given line by line, basic concepts are not explained in ways you would expect of a beginners book. [10/5/19] Still going through the book, but it continues to follow with my original comments, mostly. I did however find Chapter 7 to be a little lacking in thorough explanations. Nothing major, but it did leave to some light confusion. In addition, this language is certainly a learning curve in terms of coding-style from most (if not all) other languages out there. [12/24/19] So, I am no expert, but I'm onto the next book. This was a great read and a great new language. Coming from C++, this is the first language I have been excited about in a long time!
