Oasis - Stand By Me [Vinyl] - desertcart.com Music Review: Five Stars - Best English band after Beatles so far Review: One of Oasis' best CD singles - "Stand By Me" is, by no means, Oasis' best single track, but the import CD single -- EP if you will -- is fantastic. "Stand By Me," though a bit cliche and overblown (in terms of sound and production) is a catchy, enjoyable tune. It is certainly one of the stronger tracks on the (widely panned) Be Here Now album. But, if "Stand By Me" were the best song on the CD single, it wouldn't be worth buying. It's not. "(I Got) The Fever" is a solid rock song, with big guitars, powerful vocals, and a catchy, melodic chorus. "My Sister Lover" appears to be about an incestuous relationship. Lyrics aside, like "(I Got) The Fever," it's a hard rocker with a nice hook. "Going Nowhere" is slower Noel-sung song which, in terms of quality, is fairly typical of spare Oasis material. There have been worse songs that have found their way onto albums. I have a lot of Oasis singles -- maybe all of them -- and this is one of my favorites. Good stuff.

a terrific CD single--Oasis' seemingly magic touch is on full display here
Oasis were already legendary by this time for their terrific non-LP b-sides, and by all means, the trend continued with the "Stand By Me" UK CD single. In addition to the great title track, you get 3 additional tracks, all of which are terrific songs written by Noel Gallagher, and of these, only "Going Nowhere" appears on the b-sides compilation "The Masterplan". The rocker "(I Got) The Fever", which somewhat recalls the Happy Mondays' "Kinky Afro", has jangly guitars, a bluesy guitar riff, and neatly switches from minor-keyed verses to a major-keyed chorus. The religion-themed "My Sister Lover" does have noticeably weak and surprisingly simplistic lyrics, but despite this, it's an irresisible rocker with an absolutely larger-than-life sound, with an ultra-distorted fuzzy lead guitar tone from Noel, and superb harmony on the chorus. The disc closes with the breezy, wistful ballad "Going Nowhere" which recalls Burt Bacharach with its electric piano and horn arrangement. For any genuine Oasis fan, this single ranks as a must-have.

this import has 4 SONGS (NOT 3)!
to add to the previous review the import version has 4 songs: 1: stand by me (title track of the single) 2: (I got)the fever 3: my sister lover 4: going nowhere the previous review didn't mention "going nowhere." It's a dreamy ballad with french horns.

Awesome
This is just a brilliant, fantastic, great, awsome and marvellous song. I've run out of superlatives to throw at this Oasis tune, my second best from them behind Champagne Supernova (and that is a amazing song). I just love this band. If you've never heard this song before than you are missing a gem.

A hard rock single..... exciting¡¡¡
The song "Stand by me" is just very good and has romantic, heart touching lyrics. This songs talks about someone you should care about, and the message just gets to your heart. A single that rocks¡¡¡. The songs are just great, the last one is a noel acoustic song that inspires people to make true the dreams they have, it has positive lyrics that makes you fight for a dream.... a must have for any "hard" fan of OASIS

Lots of creative energy from Oasis during this time
Looking back, "Stand By Me" was a puzzling choice as a single from the mighty Be Here Now CD, which featured many other songs that were better. "Stand by Me" is catchy, if a bit monotonous, but the chorus is respectable and the song was written by Oasis during the band's height. For my money, "(I Got) The Fever" and "My Sister Lover" have much more edge and get-up. Each song is vintage Oasis: Liam sounds great on vocals, the drums are subtle and Noel is free to go wild with a momentary guitar solo that swaggers -- like usual. My favorite on this CD single is "My Sister Lover," which is easily A-side material with bizarre lyrics to boot.
