Gardner FlyWeb Fly Trap - Catcher & Killer for Fruit Flies, Mosquitos, Gnats

UPDATE 2/13/17 - I love this product. Just bought my fourth lamp. I gave one away, have one on the covered porch and one indoors. After the no-seeum infestation subsided post nearby road construction completion, we now have a swarm of visiting mosquitoes, something new to this neighborhood. I am changing the porch glue card every two or three days since it gets practically full of mosquitoes and a few other flying insects since the first night in use. This product is unbelievable and there is no mess to clean. I will now call the Mosquito Control Department in hopes that they will treat the area. I definitely recommend this product. While mosquitoes do not usually enter the house, the no-see-ums do stick around the door to enter, uninvited! END OF UPDATE. ORIGINAL PROBLEM AND NEED FOR THE LAMPS: The Westerly winds this year have sent a swarm of no-see-ums flying into our homes. It appears the insects' larvae was disrupted with Turnpike construction and they decided to nest our way. This lamp worked great since day one when it caught twenty-five no-see plus mosquitos and even an ant in just a few hours in the covered porch. They are so tiny that can penetrate the screens. I then placed the lamp inside the house. It caught another twenty-five the first day, but from then on the lamp attracts an average of 10 daily. Their bite is worst than the mosquito's and it lasts and lasts. It is horrible! I have to use home made repellents all day long and - small as they are - they can bite through clothing. Hopefully, they should be gone soon. I threw away most of my outdoor plants and have been fumigating outside, but none of that has helped. They visit the laptop screen but are hard to catch. Before I learned about the lamp, my legs had a horrible rash from the bites, even though I did not scratch for fear of an infection, particularly since I was using a blend of citronella essential oil, tea tree oil, peppermint oil and alcohol (the recipe called for vodka). I spray that below the laptop desk and on my legs. I do not know I could have coped without this lamp. The downside is the price of the glue boards. UPDATE I have used the lamp (I have two) for a few months now and it does attract and kill no-see-ums inside/outside the house. It is not for outdoors; however, I have a covered porch where I install it on/off. While there, it attracts mainly no-see-ums, but it has caught a mosquito or two, flying moths, and other nocturnal insects. The most important thing is to close the doors quickly upon entering/exiting the house. Since the initial "kill," I only get visited inside once a week or even less; thus, I have removed the lamp. The unit usually catches the culprit after a good meal, though. I am glad I came across this lamp and don't think that any other one could do a better job. It only works with glue cards since they are attracted to the light (black light) and end up stuck in the glue card. I no longer have the lamp in the porch since the no-see-ums from hell population has diminished and I do not want to attract any ones left to my house. >>For this reason, they sell the Flowtron lamps (just bought one) that is to be placed a few feet away from the house. Not to be used inside (search for black light dangers on the internet). The outdoors Flowtron lamp should be placed a few feet away from people and there should not be any visual contact with the lamp for...eye-safety reasons.<< UPDATE: 4/24/2015 - The no-see-ums are gone now. For good...? Who knows.... I have spent hundreds of dollars on chemicals and natural products to get rid of these insects from hell or to soothe the itch, or to avoid infection; however, my two FlyWeb FlyTrap lamps were the ones that helped me the most. Indoors, it got rid of the initial invisible invasion, and kept attracting the ones that kept coming inside the house as the doors opened. They did their job for about one year. The outdoors one may have contributed to the extermination and/or possible relocation of the flying beasts. During the heavy infestation outdoors, the 3x5 glue card would catch hundreds INSIDE my covered porch in just three to four days. If they should return, I will probably need to buy new bulbs since they are said to last one year or so. For those who wrote claiming to have dozens of them inside their house, some recovering from an illness - adding to their health problems - I can attest to the fact that the lamps work (not to be exposed to the weather at all). What do no-see-ums look like? Some are so tiny that can only be detected with a jewler's loupe. Under a magnifying glass, they look just like a mosquito - with long legs and wings. I only knew what was biting me when one landed on my laptop and I was able to get it with Scotch tape. By then it was too late, my legs were showing the red dots and welts they left behind. At that point, I began searching the net for solutions and this lamp proved to be the best. UPDATE: I guess the hurricane winds brought us a swarm of no-see-ums but, thanks to this magic lamp they are gone from inside the house snf I do not see them outside either. It took me a week to get rid of them since they lay lots of eggs. Not having any inside plants or water deposits; having the lamp catching them (the easiest method to kill them compared to other products I bought); using safe bug lotions on body; turning the fans on and the air conditioning very low... In the end, they disappeared. Inhospitable, they said on the way out.

Yes, as I just finished this review I can admit, it’s long. But unlike online comments, it’s not misspelled and is written in fully formed sentences. And contains advice. (Nutshell version: worked well for me). I can’t explain why any products works for some and not for others - all I can say about this particular fly catcher is it worked really well when I found areas of my home were overrun with small flies due to a well meaning gift of plants that turned out to have been their home before relocating to mine. I mean it was a mess and like nothing I had ever had to deal with before… They became noticeable during the next day (fairly dormant at night and in colder weather) and the appearance of the *tiniest* flies I had ever witnessed confirmed my fear that they had in fact been born once coming inside 😳😳😳. Choose Amazon due to being a bit house bound after an injury and others unable to offer in stock + same day delivery. *** NOTE: READ EVERY PRODUCT’S SPECIFIC INSECT COMPATIBILITY CAREFULLY - many UV fly ‘traps’ work on fruit flies, NOT house flies, so be sure to take the time find one that specifically lists house flies as one of the intended targets. This was one of a few different types of fly-murder-products that I ordered in a bit of a “multi-weapon” approach, along with the old school (yellow) hanging fly stick (not strip) & one that worked with a liquid solution. Unlike some of the other unfortunate reviews I’ve read, I have not had any issues with the UV light burning out/dying and I’ve had 2 of them plugged in 24/7 for the last 17 days. I plugged one in by the kitchen sink and one in a low wall outlet near pet food. Decided to keep them going as a preventative measure after the overwhelming majority had been eradicated with the help of all 3 different products. (The old school fly stick - again STICK, not hanging strips - worked like a real champ too if cost is a factor). I didn’t get extra glue boards with the order but once the initial ones were full I placed the fly sticks right next to the lights for a while as all of the items worked to eradicate the virtual swarm that was discovered on 6/7. I even made a board covered with double sided extra adhesive tape that worked well, if not as well as the original included with the UV light. Hopefully my photos will upload with no issues (haven’t tried yet) so you can see the amount of flies caught. Flies are also attracted to non UV’s, like the light of a phone, as I’ve discovered recently. Having been rid of the accidental swarm for a while, I’m now keenly aware of even a single fly being anywhere inside. Almost none of the flies caught with particular product were anywhere near full or even half sized. I think I genuinely saw one adult size among any of the items, which was perhaps the “Aliens” style mother trying to crank out offspring before I could play Ripley and mow them down. So, who is to say why there are 5 ⭐️ and 1 ⭐️ reviews of the same item? All I know is mine worked as advertised, and I empathize with those who didn’t have the same luck. If you’re facing a real situation/feeling overrun you may want to try my shotgun approach and go with a few different types of products, see what works best. I’m going to get a pack of the glue boards to keep on hand and see how long the bulb lasts. In the desert/horse property areas of Las Vegas they will be used preventatively all summer.

I live in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and houseflies, blow flies, and bottle flies are simply everywhere here, all the time, and never cease to annoy me every time I want to go outside and enjoy the lanai. Thus, I am forever in search of the next/latest/greatest devices to catch and kill flies. Some, such as the Victor Fly Magnet and Rescue! Fly Trap work very well, but use a foul smelling bait to lure the flies in and thus aren't suitable to have indoors or even within 25 feet of people when outdoors. Others, such as my Hoont flying insect zapper lure bugs in through the use of an ultraviolet light, which apparently houseflies aren't particularly attracted to and thus are ineffective for my purposes. Electrified bug swatters that look like tennis racquets are fun and work, but you can only get a couple here and there. Same with the Bug-a-Salt gun (I own two), works well and is LOTS of fun, but not enough kills to really help. I am always looking for passive traps, things I can just put out and will kill flies all day and night without me having to spend much time tending to them. After doing some online research, it turns out that houseflies are attracted to the colors black and blue, and frankly why this information has been incorporated in all the fly-killing devices yet is beyond me (everything I see tends to be yellow in color) but I was happy to find at least this ONE fly trap that doesn't use horrible orders or chemicals to attract flies, is noiseless, and uses a bluer light as an attractant (the description only says it's a UV light, but it's definitely more blue than my Hoont UV zapper). Hoping this would be the answer I've been looking for in the way of an indoor-use, silent fly killer, I purchased it and a 10-pack of replacement boards. As soon as I saw a fly in the house I set it up in the corner, instructed my wife to not kill the fly, and waited. Initially I could see the fly buzzing around and generally ignoring this fly trap, but it was in the middle of the day and I had it plugged in right next to several large windows that were even brighter than this thing at the time (the instructions tell you to put it away from competing light sources, but like all men I ignore instructions). I pretty much forgot about it for the rest of the day and then checked on it the next morning - PAY DIRT! Not only did it snag the annoying housefly at some point, it also swallowed up 7 or so smaller black flying things (gnats? Fruit flies? I'm not sure) as a bonus. Here is a picture of the glue board after having the device plugged in for the first 24 hours of ownership. So while I feel it's a tad expensive for simply being a light with a glue board behind it, it DID work to attract and kill a fly, so I'm pretty happy with it. It's bright, but we also keep it downstairs near the kitchen so it doesn't bother us at night. I suspect it'll be most effect at dawn and dusk, when flies are still active and it's the brightest thing around so I can probably leave it unplugged for most of the day, put it in around 6:00 p.m., and then remove it after breakfast for maximum effectiveness. I wish it simply had an on/off switch instead of having to plug it in and out, but that's a minor quibble. Although stated for indoor use only, I will probably try to put it outside on our covered porch for a day or two and see how many flies it grabs then. Updated pic to come perhaps? Any anyone with a good fly-killing device, please let me know!

In my never ending war against mosquitoes, the enemy had recently made advances to invade my humble 650 sq ft one bedroom home base. They had encroached so far into my territory that conventional anti-mosquito weaponry was ineffective. So I scoured the internet for an effective weapon to take down these suckers. Behold, the WMD of mosquito traps - Fly Web Fly Trap! At first I wasn't sure if the enemy was invading through the bedroom or the living room, so I kept the trap in the bedroom for over 6 hours and no suckers sprung the trap. So I decided to move it to my living room and keep it on overnight while I slept. In the first night I caught 4 small mosquitoes, so I celebrated with a cheer! I unplugged the trap in the daytime as the daylight wouldn't allow the sinister blue glow of the trap (a nice nightlight) to be seen and the vampiric suckers slept in the day anyway. On the eve of the second night, I plugged in my trap with great confidence. 9 hours later, lo and behold, a dozen more mosquitoes of varying sizes were stuck onto the trap and a couple of more got zapped by the bulb and fell to their death within the base of the trap. Celebration occurred with a beer! There was some collateral damage of fruit flies, and strange bugs I did not recognize. Since the great turning point of the war six nights ago, I've plugged in the trap every night and unplugged it the next morning. The number of mosquitoes trapped has been gradually decreasing, which I attribute to the trap wiping out their population. There have also been a number of collateral casualties of flies and a ladybug. But hey, that's what a WMD does right? If I were to do it all over again, I would have brought out the big guns a lot earlier in the season. So now I lick my wounds and rest easy, knowing that the Fly Web Fly Trap will protect my base with lethal force. As the trap is filling up fast, I've since bought replacements to reload my trap when the time comes ( Fly Web Glue Board 10 Pack ). I only wish this product had a simple on/off switch as unplugging the device is troublesome. I don't like keeping anything connected to my electrical sockets on when I'm not home. But the joy of changing from prey to hunter makes this trap 5 stars in my book. Update 12/5/2013: My apartment is now generally bug free. It was so effective I bought one for my mother's house too. I forgot to mention that I fixed the on/off switch problem by buying the GE 52149 Handy Switch Grounded White . It's easy to use, cheap and very durable as well. Update 8/20/2014: Over a year later and this baby still works (did not replace the bulb yet)! I've upgraded to a 1200 sq ft place surrounded by trees where all the power sockets are installed sideways (annoying!). Although the trap now sits sideways, the ol Fly Web Fly Trap vigilantly protects the bigger space with the same vigor and ruthlessness. Also, I now have an adult cat guarding my home, and she never get bothered by the mosquito trap lighting up the living room.

There has been a sudden barge in of houseflies in our 2nd floor-no-patio apt in evenings from last one month. We suspected season change, garbage, fruits(we have been buying more fruits in past few weeks) . We tried many methods before we bought this. Non-violence with Jam First we followed the path of non-violence. We smeared edges of plastic cup with jam and held it under light. The fly would come and sit on it quietly. We would trap it into a newspaper cover and throw it out. But in next few weeks they increased from 1 to 2-3. Fly Ribbon So we decided to get fly ribbon. We hung one in kitchen and another in bathroom. Not only that it didn't trap a single fly, we accidentally touched it many times and got our fingers sticky and messy. Meanwhile the flies began to increase in number. Fly Swatters So this time we got couple of fly swatters and the battle began...Flies were evolved ones,buzzing right onto your face and travelling at annoying speed. Swatting became tiresome as they are increasing in number and swatting is kinda unwanted stress after a hectic day. Pest Control We called in the pest control but that wasn't of much use either. Fly-web trap! One such tiresome Wednesday night, we decided to look up in Amazon. Bumped on this product. The reviews were very helpful. I ordered it right away along with a set of glue cards. Amazon prime..so we will get it on Friday. Thursday we warned the flies while swat fights. And next day I was so excited to collect this package. In my excitement i did not even read the instructions. Overwhelmed seeing there is nothing to assemble, I plug it right in and played the wait game. I peeped in after some hours. Flies are going inside it..But they are walking out after a while..hmm...It was like they have found this new cool hangout place with fancy lights. We didn't figure it out till next morning that I have to peel off the sticker from glue card(i know..it was stupid of me). So we waited till evening..peeled off the sticker. And that night it caught 3 flies :):):) Real surprise was next day. When I left to work in morning, I plugged this in kitchen near the cooking area. Turned off all the lights. Evening when I came back it had caught around 8-9 flies!!!! All the time we thought flies were in only in evenings. It also catches the small flies which are difficult to trap with swat. Investigation - Finding the entry point We had tried to figure out their entry point earlier. We suspected vents. But yesterday we got lucky in our investigation. Most number of flies were seen near the hall window. And I noticed flies outside the apt couple of days back. So we examined the window carefully with flash lights and we saw few tiny openings at the end of the frame rods..and a fly crawling in- caught in action!!! We sealed all the tiny openings. It happened mainly because the mesh outside the window has come off at edges. So flies enter between the mesh and the glass. Then the crawl in through the rods. We have to get the mesh fixed soon. Hoping this will put an end to our battle with flies. I have the fly web trap plugged in to catch the tiny flies that might be inside. It is so wonderful to have the peaceful house back. Tips: Read the instructions. It is simple. Peel off the sticker on the glue card, put it back. Plug in a place where there isn't much light interference from other sources.

I bought this fly trap in 2013 after trying a few different products to get rid of gnats living in my houseplants. This was the only thing I tried that made a difference. It's worked amazing for 7 years now. I ended up buying a second one to cover a different part of my apartment two years ago and even got one for a friend after a plant they got from me brought the gnats. It eliminated the gnats where they were. I've had to replace the bulb in it only once or twice in those 7 years and I leave it plugged in 24/7. It makes a great nightlight as well. It can be pretty bright though, so isn't great for bedrooms. I have so much wet dirt and plants that it doesn't get rid of everything for me, but it really helps and constantly catches gnats. I wait to change the fly paper until it's pretty much full, so probably do once every few months so the refill packs I've bought have lasted me a long time. I've lived a few places since I've gotten it and I noticed that in some of my older apartments it has trouble staying in the outlet unless I put it on the bottom outlet or add some packing tape behind the top of the trap to tape it to the wall. But in my newer apartment it stays up fine by itself on the top outlet and leaves room for me to use the bottom, so I think it's just some outlets aren't that straight. It's been fine through power surges from power outages and just comes back on. I haven't noticed any high electric bills from it. And the bulb can get pretty hot, so I have to be careful when replacing the paper but I don't think it would burn me. Sometimes it does melt the glue on the fly paper though and I always have some glue and dead gnats near the base, but it's not that noticeable. Overall, it's been a huge help to my gnat problem!

The light is nice and bright and will attract thr flies to it, but the sticky paper doesn't keep ahold of the flies. 2 flies were inside of the trap, literally walking on the sticky backing, and we're able to escape. My zevo trap has caught 4 in the same amount of time in the same area, and held them on there.

The bugs have been particularly annoying in my house this spring. So I decided to do something about that. I got roach motels for the cockroaches, but I had nothing for the flying insects. When I saw that this bug catcher was less than $40.00 and that it was made in the USA, I decided to try it. One of the things that I love about this bug catcher is that it is incredibly easy to use. I hate to buy appliances that I cant use until I have studied the instruction manuals on the product from youtube. The sticky pad has an easy to remove film. You just pull it off. Then you put it in the slots behind the UV lamp and plug the lamp into the socket. It seems to be the slightest bit wobbly in the socket but maybe it is supposed to be. Anyway, I don't have much trouble pulling it out of the socket in the morning. I like that. My husband, who is rarely pleased with any new appliance, was very impressed when he saw how many dead bugs were on the sticky pad after using this bug catcher just one night. It doesn't have an on/off switch. You pull it out of the socket to turn it off, but that is just one less thing to break if you ask me. So I immediately ordered a few packets of sticky pads because I think it will be a long buggy summer.

This is an awesome product for keeping flies from taking over the attic.

Great product! Obviously works best at night but it has done its job well.

We live rurally and struggle with flies in the house. I have been using window traps for ages with moderate success, so thought that I'd give this a try since the commercial models are over $300. Ad says it has CDN certification, and it does on the box, but the device does not, so it doesn't meet CDN standards. The light wiggles terribly in the housing and is turned to the side. It does seem to attact flies though and has helped the overall number in our house, but I wouldn't buy this particular one again. Quality control seems to be lacking and the lack of CDN certification marks makes me nervous.

Works great until it craps out. The bulb consistently flashes and quits.
