Jonard PT-300 Voltage Protected Coax Cable Wire Tracer Pocket Continuity Tester & Toner with Audible Beep and LED

Had to sort out, rerun and label multiple RG6 cables following construction at my home. This tester saved me lots of time and made my job much easier. Rugged metal casing with a nice heft but small enough to slip easily into your pocket or tool pouch. Even the threads on the barrel components feel solid and smooth. Pocket clip is a nice handy addition. Comes with everything needed to go right to work, including a fresh AAA (tested at full power) battery and F-Type Female to Female Coaxial Barrel Coupler Adapter Connector. Audible tone was heard from basement to second floor of home with no problem. Not overly loud but at a frequency that stands out clearly from the background noises. LED works as advertised for visual confirmation of short or splitter in the line. There's a short (2 min) YouTube video for more info. My multiple unit Ham Radio/Scanner bench grew radio by radio until the cables in the rear became a real mess. Access to the cables is done by laying on my back and working up into a "wiring space" behind the bench with a headlamp. Most of the time was spent pulling/locating cables and expanding my cussing vocabulary. This unit makes cable identification so easy that I've become almost civilized again. It works straight ahead on F-Connector cables and I use some adapters to work with 50 Ohm cable i.e. N-connectors, Pl-259's SMA'S etc etc. The price of the unit is more than worth the frustration of physical cable location. SEPT 8, 2016 NOTE: This continuity tester while perfect for identifying a single coaxial cable among a number of cables apparently uses DC Voltage for the detection. What this means is; If you are in a house that has a "mystery splitter" in the attic that is not capable of passing DC Voltage, the PT-300 cannot detect through the DC-Blocked Splitter and you will not be able to locate your cable end-to-end. The Cable companies use a AC/Radio Frequency signal source as a Continuity Test Tone which passes easily through DC-Capable AND DC-Blocked Coaxial Splitters. As far as determing continuity on a SPLITTER-LESS cable, it works just fine.

Very easy to use and immediately made it easy for me to identify what cable went to what room from the old cable box. Small quibble but the instructions aren't worded very well but its such a straightforward device it's not a big deal.

I can't say enough good things about this tool, but I'll try; It uses standard AAA batteries, not the crazy watch batteries others use. It is well made and machined; all the threads are smooth, the plating is nicely done, no sharp edges, etc. Smartly designed; the toner bell screws into the bottom for storage, and in doing so turns off the device. It comes with a male-male coax lug, providing flexibility in the end-cap configuration you can tone. It does exactly what it claims; allows you to tone coax (household cable) ports. Attach the large end to one end of the cable, then touch the buzzer (bell) end to the other ends until it squawks. I used to to identify and label the pre-run, in wall ports in our house back at their patch panel. Comes with a nice clip and has a permanent place in my tool box.

I've had this thing for awhile but never used it. Today this thing saved me a lot of time and headache. I had just finished running a coax line from the attic to the living room. I connected it to a F-Type keystone coupler and short home made coax cable. When I connected everything and turned on the FiOS box nothing but a blank screen. I couldn't figure out if it was from the new drop or the little short cable connected to the box. I remember i had this in my bag so I decided to test the short run first. Connected the speaker to one end and the tester to the other and the LED lit up red with no audible tone so the cable was shorted. I redid the connectors one end at a time and tested, then I got the audible tone. Connected the cable back to the FiOS box and tv worked perfectly. I'm so glad I bought this because this little thing saved me so much trouble trying to figure out where the problem might be and having to climb back in the attic. I highly recommend this if you plan on installing coax in your home

Small , compact and a must have tool . I've been so pleased with it , saves me time and money by being able to test the cable too see if it working or not .

Das Prüfgerät zeigt sehr zuverlässig Kurzschlüsse in coax kabeln an . was mich allerdings sauer macht ist, dass keine Bedienungsanleitung dabei ist. Man muss alles auf Youtube anschauen. Es gibt auch online keine deutsche Bedienungsanleitung. Es wird auch per ups versendet. Leider ist unser ups Fahrer eine ziemliche Katastrophe. Er stellt die Ware nicht mal zu sondern liefert es in einen Shop. Sehr ärgerlich für mich. Ich jedenfall werde nichts mehr über ups mir liefern lassen.
