ALMOST the classic Braun battery clock from West Germany
I still have one of the original style made in Germany. I've had it for about 20 years now. Before that, I had one of THE originals made in WEST Germany; it sadly broke when it was accidentally dropped after MORE than 20 years service. Man, they don't make 'em like they used to. I just don't know WHY Braun (I'm not even sure it's the original company(?)) stopped making the original, but they did. Why did I need another? Because years ago my wife "stole" mine and uses it on her bedside table. And the cheapie(s), there've been several, just are garbage. I even bought another, larger, Braun, but it's (a) substantially larger and (b) the light has always been awful on that one. Periodically I've looked for another closer to my original. There's a Braun that looks like it, but THAT ONE DOESN'T HAVE A LIGHT. Grrr... So then I found this. Can't tell where it's made (probably China, but couldn't find it on the clock, in the instructions or anywhere on the box). Differences/comments: 1. It's a bit bigger than the original Braun. 2. The snooze button is on the bottom of this one. You push the whole clock down against the table top and that snoozes it and also (at any time of the night) lights up the face for 5 seconds. WONDERFUL! This light actually lights the whole clock face so you can actually see it (yet it certainly doesn't blind you in the middle of the night). 3. The original ticks. This DOES NOT (so if you're a light sleeper, this has a sweep, smooth seconds hand. I attached a short video - the ticking is the old one, and you can see how the seconds hand on the old one "clicks" one second to the next, the new smoothly moves along. This has pros and cons. If you hate noise, the new one is great. But the old one had a clever function. When the battery runs down it does a "double tick" instead of a single, each second tick. 4. Setting the clock - I do like the old one's knob for setting the alarm. You can pinch it between thumb and forefinger. The new one you have to put your fingertip against it and twist. Not a deal-killer to me, but not quite as convenient, IMHO. I saw another review indicating that the button broke off. Hope that was a one-off problem! Also as pictures show the time setting is on the outside of the new one. On the old one you have to remove the back to set the time. But the knob for that is also one you grab with finger & thumb, so it's easier to turn. I like that you don't have to remove the back on the new one. Every time you do, to me it's a chance you can break the plastic body of the old one. Not like you do it every day, but still. If you don't have to move one piece to get to another, it's simpler and safer. 5. Alarm - exactly like the original, a crescendo to more gently wake you. But it'll definitely WAKE you! So bottom line, I'm very happy that Braun has (nearly) returned to their "roots." The original was hard to beat. I'm sure they think that this is an improvement. In many ways, it is. But the old one, really, wasn't "broke," so I'm not sure it really needed any "fixing!" But this ain't bad! Pros: *ALMOST the original, but IMHO nothing "bad" at all and I'm glad I bought it! *No ticking for those who like QUIET *Night light is great - FINALLY they brought it back and it WORKS. As an aside, this one you push the light button and it comes on for 5 seconds. The original light stayed on as long as you held the switch *Great crescendo alarm. Unless you're dead, you won't sleep through it. *Don't have to remove the back to set the time Cons: *Nothing really, just nitpicks *Not quite as easy to set the alarm/time with the new buttons *A little bigger than the original, but by no means does it take up your bedside table *I don't think that it has the weak battery signal any more (nothing about it in the instructions)

Great Braun clock, keeps excellent time, nice alarm
As you would expect from Braun, this is an elegant timepiece that keeps very exact time (tested over 30 days). The internal light is weak, but suitable for use in a dark room. The alarm is reasonably loud enough to hear anywhere in the room, or the next. I think the real charm here is that the clock is SILENT, with the sweep second hand truly sweeping, not ticking. I keep mine in a bathroom cabinet where it can be read during my morning routine.

Second hand is bright yellow against black
Five stars for being just as described. I just do not like it. The second hand is bright yellow...in comparison to the white of hour and minute hands. So as this bright yellow second hand goes sweeping around ...time seems to be racing. It is around in an exact minute. I tested with my phone clock. Just seems much faster. The yellow against black is too much in view. This clock works. The on/ off of the light is fine. I just don't like the way that the bright yellow, sweeping hand gets in my view. This clock would make a decent enough timer for brewing coffee or tea. I might like it for these purposes. On my night stand or on my desk....no. Just no. Five stars for accurate description and for arriving in working condition.

Best “No Screen” alarm clock
Great little functional accessory for my nightstand. The minute hand doesn’t “tick”, rather, it gracefully glides across dial. This is very satisfying to look at. I appreciate the simplicity of the dial and the simplicity of the design of the button that triggers the light to turn on. It turns on by pressing down on the clock to engage it to click. One really interesting design move is the placement of the light in margin of the dial—it’s strategically located in the clock at the time of day when it would be darkest.. (makes sense). I also appreciate that it turns off after a few seconds which gives you just enough time to read it. One thing that could be improved is the actual adjustment of the time and the setting of the alarm. I usually just press down with my index and rotate the clock. Not super intuitive, but it works. Hope it lasts me a while. The best pro of them all is now I don’t need to take my phone to bed to set an alarm. If it’s screen free it’s for me!

Clocks stops working
The clock is completely unreliable and the quality is terrible. Do not buy it. It simply stops working until I shake it and then starts again. So as a result, I don't trust it to wake me up because it will probably stop. I used to have a braun alarm clock that looks the same as this one but it lasted around 10 years. This one is simply the same clock but probably made with cheap labor and no quality assurance. The results are there. It worked fine for one full day and then started to stop. I switched battery 3 times already just to see if it was related to the battery but no, it's not.

Good clock, with two disappointments.
Love Braun products, but this needs some improvements. The light only shows in lower right corner of clock face. One cannot see where the alarm hand is set without turning on bedside light. And this clock is too lightweight, tips over continuously. Good news…no ticking!

an excellent travel alarm clock.
I ordered this item to replace my original travel clock that wore out after 30 years of use.

Country of manufacture too light in weight and light function at the bottom
It's too light in weight doesn't mention country of manufacture and finally the light function is at the bottom one needs to press the whole alarm clock to see the time at night would have been better if the light function was on the top

Glad to have a Braun alarm at my bedside again.
I bought this very model of Braun clock in 1987 when it was first released. It lasted over 25 years until it got lost in a move. Boo. Anyhow, this replacement feels very much like the brilliant '87 one. Alarm works the same, the light STILL could cover a bit more of the face, and I don't remember a sweep second hand. How smooth, how cool. Anyhow the case feels the same right down to the colour. Now it only has to last me another 25+ years. Glad to have a Braun alarm at my bedside again. (Below is the original AB-1)

Good replacement
Purchased to replace a long-serving similar item the had suffered cosmetic damage from the second hand. A bit larger than its predecessor, but that's not really a problem. In some ways that's actually better Has a useful internal light, activated by pushing down on the top, via a base-mounted switch.
