Miller Dowel 1X Stepped Dowel Joinery Kit

I had the front of a stair tread ready to break off. It would have been a big job to replace. I put a series of these dowels in with high quality wood glue and the problem is solved. I just have to find round dowels to make plugs for the holes. You need to position the transition of the dowel size on the break area so some of them ended up being a bit deep requiring a plug but that is a small issue to deal with when compared to replacing the tread. The drill bit was easy to control and the plugs went in snug but not too tight. When the glue dried it was all solid.

If you have never used Miller Dowels before, I suggest you try them. It really makes joinery work so much easier. I didn't have this size yet, and now I am off to the races with a smaller set, and this means I can get some more detailed work done with a great set of dowels. This joint that it makes is extremely strong and very durable. I can't wait to get started on my next project.

I restore antique furniture and sometimes glue alone does not do the job on a repair. These dowels are long enough and with the tapered bit that is included, not a single repair has failed in the pasr6 years!

I cut a very expensive oak board to length and opened up a hidden split in the board. The Miller dowels are stepped and longer than standard dowels, allowing you to go deeper into the wood. I glued, clamped and inserted a couple of these dowels across the grain. After glue-up, this very expensive board was saved because of these Miller dowels. Everyone should keep some of these around.Miller dowels are great for cabinetry when joining boards at right angles. They're especially effective when the dowel needs to go into end grain, as the Miller dowels are stepped and are less likely to split the end grain compared to traditional straight sided dowels.I would recommend these for any woodworker or cabinet maker.

I have used dowels for joinery many times and I find these work extremely well when I need one it's also a great accent for the piece I'm working on

I've used dowells, biscuits, tenons,joining plates and countersunk screws. These seem to be the easiest so far.I had never heard of these until I came upon a project that used them. Of course, these aren't hidden like many joint holding techniques, but there are ways around that.All in all, I think these will be a go to way for many of my projects.
