The Finnish movie makers have nailed down how to film good war movies. Great acting with some really cool action sequences. If you can handle the subtitles then this is well worth the watch. Absolutely loved it and the subtitles aren’t bad at all, before you know it you don’t even realize you’re reading them anymore. Review: Solid movie - I really enjoyed this movie. The combat scenes were outstanding. The equipment and uniforms very accurate. There was not a lot of character development but that was ok for me.

Rare and not very known history of world war 2 ...
Rare and not very known history of world war 2 whenFinland fighted with the germans against Russia, and at the end (1945), against the germans with allied troops. Finland was in « co-belligerance « with Germany, but not allied with . You undersand,? 🔬. At the end, Finland was alone without money and has paid a lot of territories and war repairs.

Excellent movie
As this is about a Swedish speaking regiment in the Finnish army, I would have thought the production would have been in Swedish not German. All the same, this was an excellent movie about people fighting against all odds.

Movie is a Missed Opportunity
This is an odd movie. The Finnish producers made this film to honor the considerable efforts of Finnish soldiers in 1944 to defeat a powerful Soviet invasion. Instead, the Finnish troops look clumsy and inept. Clearly, they used actors and not real soldiers in the film. Newsreels of Finnish soldiers from the period show dedicated, professional warriors. This film does not show that. They should try again. The battle in question was, Tali-ihantala 1944, for those who'd like to research this actual event.. Amazing real story. Authentic tanks were used, German Sturmgeschutz and T34s, and KV1 tanks fabricated on T34 chasses. The KV replicas are well done. The real Stugs were just amazing to watch.

What did I just watch
Russians attack en-masse, seen from a distance, Fins shoot them down. Fins retreat, Russians attack en-masse (seen from a distance), Fins shoot them. All with no real story. The "climactic" battle was laughable. A forest, seen from a few hundred meters, gets bombed as the Commander of the Fins says 200-250 guns have opened fire on them. You watch the explosions (from a few hundred meters), then some actual black and white stock footage from WWII and then a field of dead bodies with an overlay stating how the Fins defeated the Russians during several key battles. That's it. Don't expect much of anything, but you don't get much..............of anything.

Finland probably has the best ratio of war movies to good war movies, nothing they out out is bad, and almost every one is quite the opposite. Does play on North American players I might add. For the movie itself, it’s very well done, taking almost a documentary style of filming and editing, where we move between units around a large battle and are accompanied by maps in between to show progress by the 2 sides involved. It does make for weak characters however, those we have often have their moment on the screen and then when the movie moves on to the next sector of action, we often don’t see that character again. There’s a few it does go back to who are more heavily involved in the frontline, mostly higher ranking officers, but otherwise you won’t find super great characters here, not to mention for how few times you may someone’s name it’s almost impossible to put a name to a face or know who anyone is taking about. The acting is good but not fantastic, but everyone plays their rolls well. However the bread and butter of the movie is following the action around, making for a very action packed movie, with scenes without gunfire or explosions being there just to break up or summarize the smaller battles. All the effects are practical, expect for a few small additions I can count on one hard. The tank scenes are awesome, raw and realistic, doing as good as Fury without and CGI or dramatization. Also of note are the vast amount of authentic armoured vehicles, which to see in action is worth the cost of the movie alone. Sounds effects and explosions sound real good (because their real) and special effects which as bullet impacts and shells hitting or bouncing off armour is very convincing. Overall a very action packed, raw war experience, that does what many movies with may higher budgets and boat loads of computer effects can’t do, make it all look real.
