is there an option to use a plug-in power supply (instead of batteries that need to be replaced periodically)?

You could get a universal ac/dc adapter ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07NM1ZM3V ), turn it to 3V output voltage, cut the cable and connect it to the battery contacts of the sensor. Make sure you get the polarity correct, otherwise you might destroy the detector! I'm pretty certain that Ring will not honor any warranty in this case, so do this at your own risk.

How do you set a schedule on the 2nd generation? I only want to detect motion at night.

I do not believe that you can 'schedule' a motion detector - at least I haven't been able to do that with Gen2...HOWEVER...if by 'night' you mean 'when you are all locked up and in bed...' then once in AWAY mode you can have you motion detectors 'trip with delay' (so you can get to the key pad to disarm) or 'trip to alarm' which means there is NO delay and siren will sound immediately... Scenario #1...it is 8PM and your house is locked up for the night...In HOME mode your detectors can be set to 'ignore' any motion as you walk around the house...the only sensors that would be armed are your doors and windows... Scenario #2...when you go to bed at 11PM, enter code and hit AWAY. This will arm all sensors - even the motion detectors or delay/no delay settings... I think this is how most folks run their Ring System...Hope this helps!!

Can it be used outside?

No. The Ring Alarm Motion Detector is an indoor device, it is not certified for outside conditions.

Will this work with generation 1 base station?

Yes. All Alarm sensors are dually compatible with both generations of Ring Alarm.

Highly recommended !

Bought a pack of two. One I was able to install and setup very quickly without any issues. But the second one had lot of issues. Detection was accurate and to the point. I will have Peace of mind now since each corner of house is covered now. Value for money 9/10.

Ring Alarm Motion Detector works perfectly with SmartThings Hub v2. Very easy to setup. Add device by scan QR Code, remove small piece of plastic to activate battery, press button for 5 seconds. when you release the button, it flash really quick during pairing with SmartThings Hub. it should show up as Z-Wave device when is done.

Works well with the Ring system. Good sensitivity. Only problem is the adhesive doesn’t always hold well. Needed to use some two sided adhesive strips to make sure it stayed up. Otherwise it would get 5 stars.
