this stuff is great. It kills roaches and pests (and yeast)
Okay, so, if you consider all things ladyparts-related to be TMI - I suggest you stop now. If you're a woman troubled by how your downstairs is treating you, then please read on, for this product is a MIRACLE. ...well. Yeast infections. Yeah, that's right. This review is going to be about the lack of yeast infections because this works so amazingly. Here's the deal: DO NOT INGEST THIS OR PUT IT ON OPEN WOUNDS. Otherwise, this stuff is great. It kills roaches and pests (and yeast)! After reading about boric acid and yeast infections online, I decided to try this as I was pretty desperate. My hormone imbalances in addition to my IUD was giving me that inevitable itch every month. You know, *that* tickle at the beginning of my monthly cycle. I was spending too much time and money to have the discomfort of OTC yeast infection treatments bothering me when I was trying to treat something that's already ming-bogglingly discomforting in its own right. The Monistat would help, sure, but then I had to wear pads, couldn't get intimate with my boyfriend, and it was just a hassle. A hassle that I was willing to go through for relief, until I finally decided to take the plunge and put this powder in size 00 vegetable capsules with a bit of coconut oil and stick it up there. (I don't use a capsule maker. I sat down one night with gloves and made 30 and put them in a Ziploc and I keep them in a cool, dry place. I also have the bag labeled appropriately - saying "DO NOT INGEST" - this is especially important if you have kids or keep it in a place that someone else might see it and think it's something else.) For real, though, I've been using these for over six months, and the affordable price and convenience and actual, legitimate results are insane. This stuff just kills yeast FAST. If I start to feel that tickle down there, I insert one capsule before bed, and I feel at LEAST 98% better by morning, if not 100%. Sometimes there is some discharge during the day that has a very clear and watery consistency, and if this bugs you, you can wear a panty liner, but if you only insert one (and by all means if you're having a raging infection, insert two) you should not have much of anything happening the next day. I was apprehensive initially because of what the warnings on the bottle say, but as long as the bottle says "NF," I'm under the impression that it's fine as a suppository. Again, do NOT take it orally. This was a godsend. It was so cheap and it will last me forever, and it doesn't hurt me at all. I know OTC Monistat gives a lot of women burning sensations, and nobody should have to go through that for relief.

Works for men too
A few years back I developed a yeast infection. My case is a bit unique because I'm a man, and the candida variety that infected me seems to be one of the 7-10% described as "resistant" to the usual "azole" medications (miconazole, clotrimazole, several prescription medications in the same family) that serve as the first line of defense against candida. Yes, men can and do get yeast infections -- search "phimosis" and get ready for some rather cringe-y pictures. My GP immediately gave me the usual treatments, but it soon became clear it was a resistant variety, so he sent me to a urologist. They gave me some stronger prescriptions meds: nystatin, diflucan, a few others I don't remember, and we finally did beat it back, but I wasn't at all confident we'd completely gotten rid of it. Sure enough, a few times since, it's flared back up, and I went through more or less the same routine in more or less the same order. When it flared up again a couple of months ago, I had a hard time getting an appt with my GP (with the lockdown and all), so I started using some of the OTC meds, but I decided to do my own research and see if I couldn't do better. Most of the websites just want to sell you their own homeopathic snake oil that promises to have you fresh as a daisy in mere days, but there are some reputable medical websites like WebMD, and even the Mayo Clinic has their own website. I think it was the Mayo Clinic that said something along the lines of "resistant varieties are generally treated with boric acid". I was flabbergasted to discover that not only is boric acid available OTC, it was cheaper than even just the co-pays I'd been paying for the prescriptions that worked poorly if at all. I was reluctant to apply an acid to...well, you know where...but it dawned on me that the women giving this product rave reviews were applying it INTERNALLY, and saying it not only worked, it felt great. It comes as a powder, so you need to mix it with something to make a cream or paste that will stick where you apply it. Someone mentioned coconut oil, which seemed like a pretty good idea since coconut oil has antifungal properties of its own, but I went with hydrocortisone cream instead. Even if the boric acid killed the bacteria, the skin would have to heal from the lesions, and helping things along with hydrocortisone seemed like a good idea. Today is the fourth day of my routine, and the results have been amazing. It's clear the infection is almost gone -- the discharge and odor are completely gone. There's still some pain and itching, but it's improving, for the first time in months. I'll continue with the boric acid for at least a couple more weeks (there doesn't seem to be a downside to its use), and maybe, just maybe, be rid of this thing for good!

Ditch your over-the-counter yeast product!!!
This item helped solve my reoccuring yeast infections. I place the powder in some vitamin E oil, I mixed the two well enough not to thick or too thin. I placed the mix in some Vcaps (amazon recommended, not hard to find on this site.) Putting the mix into the capsuls is still a work in progress but I'm improving. I insert the capsuls a couple hours after sex, pre/post period. IT WORKS!!!!! Also, I was not specifically using this for BV but I noticed a slight BV episode coming on before using the boric acid supp. to my suprise the excess yeast and BV vanished...ask me how happy I was. I'd recommend a pantyliner to wear through out the day. No major discharge but enough to notice. I place this suppository at night, wash before heading out in AM, returning I'd wash my vaginal area again just to remove anything natural my body expelled or from the product. By then the majority of the product is mostly out and I wear no panty on when home to let my girl breath. I say all this because it's VERY important not to keep a wet soaky liner or panty on for long hours. Ladies, pls use a natural oil mix when mixing this stuff. I did not use it without the oil only because of the many reviews I read where other women used some kind of oil mix. It makes sense. The vagainal wall may already be sensitive to the increase in yeast so the plan powder of the boric acid can futher irriate it. I noticed the same reaction when using over the counter products for yeast infection, I couldn't stand to bear them any longer. With this product and the Vit E oil, I have NO irriatiton and I try to stay ahead of the yeast build up to avoid any irritaion. UPDATE: 8/19/13 I'd like to mention that when I ran out of the Vit. E suppository, I did not reorder it only because I didn't want to. I scooped the boric acid powder (without out the Vit E ) into the capsule (that I mentioned in my first review above) and used it vaginally . It did not cause any irritation or discomfort and still works just as effective. I'm remain yeast infection free and the boric acid even wiped out an oncoming bacterial vaganosis that had a slight odor. So I highly recommend this product. This item is 10x cheaper and MORE effective than those over-the-counter product that they sell for yeast infection. Those other product actually have BURNED and Irritated my inside so badly I had to remove the cream because it was unbearable, but I have no such side effect like this with the boric acid.

Indispensable; Great Quality
I only wish I had tried this sooner!! Excellent smooth quality. 6 years ago I had pain initiate around an IUD but the pathogen couldn't be identified. I became dangerously ill with multiple strep B infections, heart endocarditis and sepsis. I used this with coconut oil vaginally for about a month a few months ago, and the FM/hip pain that's had me bedridden for most of the past decade significantly subsided! I was recently dx with Lyme/Bartonella, so I think that this is effective against these pathogens, as well as nipping a new fishy BV infection before it became chronic. Lasting affect- I rarely treat anymore. Magic. Along with antibiotics, this boric acid is bringing me back to life. I mixed the boric acid with warm coconut oil in a covered glass dish and applied it when re-solidified with yeast cream applicator. I also add a few drops of diluted H2O2. There are people who wouldn't dip their mangy dogs in this, but I needed something strong! Boric acid delivers. Additionally, Boron isn't just relatively safe, it is an essential mineral used in multi vitamins. It is used in arthritis products because it kills the pathogens that cause arthritis. Effective in ant bait. I am confident this is a quality product.

Hopfull this does he trick!!!
I myself am another bv suffer!! I'm so happy to know I am not alone! I'm 30 years old and up until a few months ago I've never had bv maybe an occasional YI after an antibiotic (learned my lessons take diflucan with every antibiotic!!). I did not even know I had bv till I had my annual I though I had a UTI.. Constant peeing and pressure. She tested me and the bv came back positive. She put me on flagyl oral (DEVILs drug) and after I was done with that a few days later the problem same symptoms came back. I told her I'd spaz out if I had to go on flagyl again.. So she gave me the dreaded gel.. After that was done.. Few days later same symptoms.. Gel again.. I've had It by now!! How does a Gyno doctor not know what else to do.. Oh and got a yeast infection I between all this.. I went hunting myself for an answer.. I saw boric acid as a treatment.. When I first saw that wtf!? Was my first though. I read the reviews on here and It seemed God sent! I ordered everything everyone else was using. I got it home and did it half powder half coconut oil.. No problems with burning or anything.. Had some watery discharge but I read that's normal. I smelled a weird smell tho.. Realized it was the coconut oil.. I hate the smell of it.. Next day I didn't use the oil but I used sterile lube. That worked perfect! No smell! I did It for 7 days straight. It's working like a charm. I am done with my 7 days. I will continue to use after intimacy and my monthly hoping this is the Saving grace. I do also use a probiotic daily by represh it is the only one I found to have the good bacteria with studies on It for helping woman's health issues.

A hopeful review 6.5 years on
Since a lot of reviews are relatively short-term, here's a pretty historical one for you... I ordered this in April 2016. It is now December 2022. I used it to treat BV 6.5 years ago and have had absolutely no problems since. When I got BV, I had never even had a yeast infection and had a weird amount of pride about my vaginal health, so I was really psychologically messed up about it and very determined to return to my previous bacterial balance as soon as possible. I had already read horror stories of the BV/YI cycle triggered by antibiotics, but I was fortunate to have a rather progressive gyno who prescribed me boric acid instead of antibiotics in the first place. Feel free to let that calm you down about putting an acid in your vagina (although you shouldn't be too worried--acids are not inherently harmful, and this is a very weak one anyway!). I initially used one size 00 capsule suppository every night for 10 days, which got rid of all of my symptoms after one use. However, my pH was back up to about 5 within a few days of stopping, which I knew was tracking towards relapse, so I kept going. At this point, I was VERY concerned about the bad bacteria becoming entrenched and forming a biofilm, so I may have overdone it, but I kept using one capsule nightly for about 3 months. After that, I weaned off to every other night for another 3 months, and then I stopped completely. No problems after that. In hindsight, I think I could've cut that time in half, but I had no negative effects and this stuff was so cheap and easy to use. The only side effect I experienced was a large amount of clear, odorless, watery discharge first thing in the morning. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned that because it was shocking to me when it first happened! Maybe it doesn't happen to everyone, or maybe it was just the capsules I had, but don't be alarmed if that happens. Also, be aware that you will have an utterly odorless, tasteless vagina while you're using this. That may sound great when you're in the throes of BV, but it's almost eerie. When your healthy flora comes back, don't mistake it for a relapse! Hopefully this is helpful and gives you hope, even if you've already tried this but keep having to use it for maintenance. One of the worst parts of my BV experience was that I was constantly thinking about my vagina (not in a fun way) and how awful it felt to have something wrong with it, even when I was technically completely symptomless during my boric acid course. It took me a long time to stop being paranoid about it, but eventually I was able to trust that it was gone for good and I haven't thought about it in years. In fact, the only thing that prompted me to write this review is that I recently used some of the leftover boric acid to help kill some mold on a piece of wood! All this to say, I know how easily BV can take over your life, but this stuff will give it back to you. And a big thanks to this product in particular for being so affordable and having the right consistency for this use!

Desperate
Maybe TMI but here is my story: Living with BV has been a nightmare. I found out I had BV when I was 18 years old (I am now 25). Clueless as to what BV even was, I was soon to become very aware of it. The first symptoms I had of BV were the discharge, they would come and go and I was too embarrassed to ask my parents or anyone else if it was normal or if something was terribly wrong. I never noticed an odor until intercourse with my boyfriend (who has stuck all this out with me for 6 years now). We had just started dating and he noticed the odor a couple weeks before I even did. Finally one night during intercourse I noticed it (I may have even noticed it before but chose to ignore it, kinda like I did with the discharge) I finally asked him what that smell was (all you ladies dealing with reoccurring BV know the horrid smell). I just blurted out with out even thinking "what is that smell" my boyfriend seemed relieved once I said it, he told me he had noticed the odor for a couple weeks now but didn't know how to ask me about it without hurting my feelings. I then, was scared. A million thoughts went threw my head as to what was wrong with me. The next morning I showed up at my OBGYN desperate to see him. My doctor prescribed me metronidazole gel to use twice a day for 7 days and a soap to douce with in-between uses. When I left the doctors office I felt relieved, it wasn't an STD and it was curable after a week of gel. I called my boyfriend and he too was relieved. That was the first time I have ever heard of BV but wasn't too concerned because I got my medicine and I thought I would be well on my way, unfortunately that would not be my last time with BV. After my week of metronidazole was up I got BV again right after my boyfriend and I had intercourse again so I made a trip to the doctor once again the very next day this time he prescribed me the pill form of flagyl, that seemed to last me a good month until I started my cycle then the very next week I had BV AGAIN. I made trips to my doctor at least once every 2 months getting refills for my BV. My doctor would tell me to try having intercourse with condoms and that maybe I was having a reaction the the sperm, I tried that and nothing worked. I finally got so frustrated with it coming back I seemed to have BV more often then being clear of it. I decided to do a little research on my on I spent hours one night reading everything I could find about BV and basically what it concluded was there really was no known cure for reoccurring BV so I began trying everything I could find that helped some women with the same problem as me. The first thing I tried was: ALL THIS OVER A COURCE OF 6 YEARS Refresh gel- It worked, FOR LIKE A DAY as long as I had the gel in me it helped with the smell but right after intercourse the horrid BV would be back The second thing I cam across was: douching with 1/2 Hydrogen Peroxide 1/2 water- it seemed to work with the smell and the discharge was a little better but my BV was never really gone with it. (IDK about you guys but I can tell when my BV even if the smell and discharge are not there, I just do not feel clean down there no matter if I have just gotten out of the shower or not) so I gave up on this as well Third thing (still doing this): All cotton panties: I read wearing all cotton panties helps you breathe down there, I also wear none at night to seems to help but I still have BV once a month 4th: Probiotics and inserting plain yogurt into my vagina- I read so many great reviews on this and for a while I thought that I had found the cure. I inserted yogurt in me with a tampon once and took a probiotic every day for about 2 weeks straight and didn't have a BV outbreak for almost a year. I would take the probiotic randomly when I thought about it ( tired to take them every day but sometimes I would forget) and I went from having BV once a month to almost a year without having BV. Then one day it was like it just quit working, I started having BV again every month 5th: Yogurt inserted vaginally: I inserted the yogurt everyday for seven days and it did nothing. didn't help with the BV at all 6th: Probiotics inserted vaginally: I read to insert the probiotics vaginally I bought like 3 different kinds of probiotics ( the womens health was one, the refresh kind, and another kind that I read was one of the best) again it did nothing 7th: I then was so frustrated I went to walmart and spent about 60 dollars in OTC treatment for BV NOTHING WORKED 8th:(what I'm doing now) Douching with straight hydrogen peroxide: I read that douching with 15mL of hydrogen peroxide for 7 days will help and it does, it seems to help hide some of the symptoms it helps with the odor and I can hide my continuous outbreaks from my boyfriend 9th: (and hopefully last) Boric Acid: I ordered the boric Acid and capsules off amazon after reading all these great reviews. I am a little nervous due to the fact that it is poison but I am so desperate at this point that it outweighs my nervousness. Tonight is the first night I inserted it and I plan to insert it straight for 14 days, then twice a week for 6 months (because that is what I read) I will keep up with how it works and if the good out weighs the bad. I am hoping and praying for good results and for a cure. I know, if you are going threw what I am going threw with BV how pure AWFUL it is. I hope to have a good of review as everything I have read. Good luck to you and I will be back with my experience with Boric Acid

Amazing! There is hope for BV/YI!
I must first thank all of the woman who posted reviews before me! Without your testimonies I would NEVER have been brave enough to try this product to treat my persistent BV/YI. I suffered for way too long and had tried both prescription and over the counter remedies, only to have the condition return time and time again. I thought it was going to drive me crazy and that I would never feel normal again. I bought this product and the Now 00 empty veg-capsules and filled them by hand. After reading several different treatment suggestions, I decided that I would try inserting one capsule per night for three weeks. I then took a break for one week and repeated inserting one capsule per night for a second three week period. (In retrospect, I probably could have used a much shorter course of treatment, but I wanted to make sure it was completely gone) It was amazing how well this product worked. I could tell a difference after the first week, and by the second course of treatment, the BV/YI had completely cleared up. That was over six months ago and the condition has remained under control. I will still insert one capsule after sex just as a preventive treatment. It is truly amazing how well this works, no more embarrassing doctor visits or expensive treatments that don't work!! If it wasn't so embarrassing to talk about I would run through the streets yelling the praises of Boric Acid!! Side note- I also used this product to get rid of the ants in my kitchen. I mixed one capsule worth of Boric Acid with about a teaspoon of honey and left it in a small plastic cup on a window sill where I often saw ants. The ants just loved it and for about a week the cup was full of ants coming and going. After that week the number of ants dwindled until there were none. I left the cup on the sill and every now and then I would have a straggler come through, never to return.
