Adorable story, nice sturdy board book

All my children loved this book at bedtime! Now I read it to my grandchild. This rhythmic goodnight story and beautiful illustrations will be a lovely addition to any child’s library!

Been reading this to my baby since 6 weeks old. She loves this book! Such a simple and fun flowy bed time book.

I specialized in elementary language and literacy, and I greatly admire Mem Fox as an exceptional children’s author. Her masterful use of rhythm, rhyme, and repetition enhances phonological awareness, supports emergent reading skills, and fosters a love of language among young learners. Her stories are both engaging and memorable for young readers. I tend to always buy her booking for friends who are expecting.

This darling bedtime story, so endearing will charm your youngster to sweet dreams night after night. Jane Dyer's watercolor illustrations depicting animals, and their offspring are OUTSTANDING. Each two-page spread features a different Mommy (or Daddy), in a suitable setting, preparing their "little one" for bed. For instance, the mice are portrayed at the base of a hallow tree, and the fish are deep at sea. The sweet, and simple text appears on the left side of the book, while each mimicking phrase begins with, "It's time for bed." Subtle and rhythmic, the beat is ideal for nighttime reading, "It's time for bed, little sheep, little sheep, the whole wide world is going to sleep." The book concludes with a Mommy tucking a toddler into bed, "The stars on high are shining bright, sweet dreams, my darling, sleep well, good night!" This is a precious bedtime book.As an educational tool, children will learn to recognize the illustrated animals: mouse, goose, cat, calf, foal, fish, sheep, bird, bee, snake, pup, and deer. My son received the hardcover edition of "Time For Bed" as a baby gift, and I was so captivated by the artwork that the board book version was purchased as a supplement. One-year and up.

I first discovered this treasure several years ago. Since then, I have my own copy and I keep a new one handy at all times! For me, it is one 'must give' gift to a new mom! Mem Fox has written a book that any parent would enjoy reading to his or her young child at bedtime. Within its covers, it is 'time for bed' and each mama creature has a little rhyme for her young one: the first page is the mama mouse, saying to her very tiny baby mouse, 'It's time for bed, little mouse, little mouse/ Darkness is falling all over the house.' Then mama's goose, cat, cow, mare, fish, sheep, and so on, page after lovely page, tell their little one it is time for bed. The illustrations by Jane Dyer are glorious: detailed, magical, and show beautifully the sheltering, gentle love between mamas and babies of all species. Of course, on the last page, Mama says to her child,'The stars on high are shining bright--Sweet dreams, my darling, sleep well...good night!'The simple rhymes, the lovely illustrations, both seem to captivate little ones, and, at the end, one believes it is indeed 'time for bed!' This book makes for very 'sweet dreams' indeed!

This is an amazing book. I would read it to any child for bed. My children love finishing the sentence with each page. I am purchasing for my grand baby to carry on the tradition of reading a book before bed.

Hi, this book is just absolutely adorable - my 1-year-old son loves it, and the beautiful pictures and soothing rhymes make putting him to sleep really easy. What I like about this book is most of all that the drawings are showing real animals and not only some manga that should eventually look like a sheep etc...The lyrics in the book are in a soft rhythmic structure and perfect to lull your baby to sleep. It's short text and awesome pictures - perfect for the littlest kids that cannot really understand any long story with a moral at the end, yet. So far it works everytime - and quick too! I did not have to read it more than twice in a row - and baby was happily snoring along..The book is made of very strong cardboard, easy for the little one to turn the page and it even survives bites and pulling (of course you should never leave your child alone for a long time with things like that if you want them to stay whole..)A joy for parents and children all the same!Dieses Buch ist ideal geeignet als Gute-Nacht Geschichte für die ganz kleinen. Ein kurzer Reim auf jeder Seite, der auch zum Bild passt. Die Zeichnungen sind mit sehr viel Liebe gestaltet und stellen die Tiere wie sie wirklich sind dar, nicht in Comic oder Mangaform - das hat man heutzutage leider nur noch selten bei den meisten englischen Kinderbüchern. Für meinen Kleinen ist es eine sehr schöne gemütliche Art in zum Schlafen zu bekommen, meistens ist er spätestens nach dem zweiten Vorlesen/Mitlesen eingeschlafen. Das Material ist auch sehr gut, hält auch mal aus dass der Kleine versucht reinzbeissen und dran zu ziehen. Die Seiten sind schön dick, da kann er auch schon selber umblättern - ich kann das Buch wirklich nur empfehlen. Für Eltern und Kind eine Freude!

Très joli. Très doux. Parfaite histoire du soir. Mes petits adorent. Je l'ai chanté dès la premère elcture et du coup, mes petits ( de 2 ans et 5 ans ) me demandent de le chanter dès que j'oublie de le faire. On vient de rentrer dans l'univers de Mem Fox et on a-do-re!

I think it is a great bed book for kids. My daughter is 8 months and she loves the pictures and the rhythm of its lines. Great option to start reading.
