We bought the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone to use with our GoPro Hero 8. We had a TASCAM Micro Portable Digital Audio Recorder and it was a nightmare to use.We did some research and came across the Rode and decided to purchase it. Boy what a change, I wish we had purchased the Rode first.Things I like:1. The Rode captures quality sound.2. It is easy to use, just hook it to the camera.3. It is powered from the camera so you don't need batteries for it.4. When recording outside the "dead cat" blocks the wind sound.5. Good quality overall.6. Good price point.7. Compact8. Works good indoors, but also good for when recording outside.We have had it for two years and haven't had any problems with it. We would buy one again, if needed.I can't think of anything right at the moment that I don't like.

This mic blocks sound from the back REALLY WELL. For example, it's great if you are trying to record music being played live on a stage, and you don't want all the crowd noise behind you to be recorded.On the other hand, if you are using it to vlog, you have to talk louder than normal if you're behind the mic, otherwise your voice will come in soft.In comparison, the much more expensive Rode Video Mic Pro and Pro+ mics are good at picking up sound from the front and the rear, while rejecting sound only from the side. But they pick up sound well from the rear which make them great for vlogging, if you don't mind the larger size and having to use a battery.In any case, this Rode VideoMicro mic is literally one of the best condenser mics you can buy at any price when it comes to blocking sound from the rear. I've used dozens of condenser mics all the way up to $1,000 mics and very few are as good at blocking sound from the rear. (Dynamic mics are better at blocking sound from the rear, but they are a completely different kind of mic.)As far as condenser mics go that can be used for vlogging, the only vlogging mic as good as this one at blocking sound from the rear is the much more expensive Sennheiser MKE 440.Long story short, this Rode VideoMicro is a bargain. Small, cheap, sounds pretty good, comes with a shock mount and a windscreen, and no battery needed. It's a really good deal!

I love how compact it is. The fact that it needs no battery is amazing. The sound quality is good. I think it’s definitely worth the price. At $60 price point it’s a great buy to enhance your video quality.Now some things i don’t like. The connection cord is only compatible with cameras (dslr or Point and shoot) i was hoping i could get a connection cord that worked on my cellphone. But i didn’t. And i have to pay $15 for it. That ain’t happening.Probably the most critical complaint is the audio quality. I will say it improved my overall audio quite a bit but it didn’t do everything i thought it would. When using the on board mic on my devices it got pretty good audio (if i yelled) but there was this annoying hissing sound (white noise). I had hoped the RODE VideoMicro would eliminate this issue but it didn’t. It did reduce the sound a little but it’s still noticeable to me, especially when outside.This mic performs its best when doing a vlog style recording. When holding the mic at about arms length u get a great deep audio with a richness that the on board can’t provide. When doing an interview style video it performs well. This is best at about 2 to 3ft away from the mic. Anything further away it’s just an ok quality.Is it worth it? Yes! If you are like me looking to make content for YouTube or whatever and you want a better audio quality get this mic. I plan to upgrade when my budget increases but for now this RODE VideoMicro will do just fine.

I have had this mic for about a month. I use it chiefly with Dragon dictation software at work with my iPhone X.Note this will not work out-of-the-box because you need a TRS conversion plug to TRSS plug. If you need to charge your iPhone, you will need either a wireless charging pad (which does not charge very fast) or buy an adapter that allows you to charge your iPhone and accept a microphone input. Of course all of these adapters require special cables to connect the mic to the adapters to the iPhone. None of the cables or adapters are expenses. I just hated to wait for them to arrive, but then that's me...On many apps, such as the dictation app that I use, you will not be able to hear sound coming from the iPhone. In other words when I am in dictation mode, I cannot hear the phone ring or play music. However, GarageBand will let you use the mic and sound at the same time. So sound is very app dependent for the mic.The sound quality is incredible to me. I am using it with my iPhone X. On a scale of 1 to 10 the iPhone mic is about an eight. The Rode mic is a 9 1/2.To be honest I had some difficulty setting the mic up for my iPhone. This was not the problem of the mic but the problem of the user.This is where the real value of a company's support people come into play. I must have spoken to Ryan three or four times until I understood what type of connections I needed for the mic to work. Ryan was patient, friendly, and quite talented. To be able to break down the instructions to a novice like me, is pure genius in my book.

I've found the Rode VideoMicro to be a great little microphone when I need something compact for capturing general sound. One of my favorite things about it is the short profile. Compared with some of my larger shotgun microphones, it stays out of the way when I'm using wider lenses, which makes it especially convenient for a small run-and-gun camera setup.The main limitation for me is dialogue. For professional talking-head videos where I want really crisp, focused voice audio, I prefer using a more dedicated microphone setup. This isn't the mic I personally reach for when dialogue quality is the top priority.Because of that, the VideoMicro has found a permanent home on my casual/vlogging setup. It's small, convenient, doesn't add much bulk to the camera, and works well when I just need to grab my camera and start recording.I'd recommend it for vlogging, travel, casual video, and creators looking for a simple compact on-camera microphone. For dedicated interviews or talking-head work, I'd consider a more specialized audio setup.

First testing impressions:I was pretty skeptical at first when it comes to adding a external mic and how it would affect my videos. I wanted to primarily use this on my LGv20 phone on a mobile rig to get some family shots and just some quality footage of my family and friends.Back up plan, since my LGv20 already has a set of hd audio mics and if it doesn't make much of a difference, I still have my Panasonic LX-7 or Canon RF40 i can use it on that i know doesn't have great audio.My original concerns:1. Will the directional mic on focus forward and completely block out everywhere else.2. Will it function on my Lgv20?3. How will it fair against the LGv20 3mics?The LGv20 already has a set of amazing mics built in to record HD quality audio - voice recording, video recording and so on.So once i got the VideoMicro i set it all up put my phone on the rig and shot a video with it then shot one without it. On the phone speaker, you really can't hear the difference. Then i plugged in a pair of headphones, then you are really hear the subtleties. Both audio came out really nice - but you can hear a clear distinction between the two when it comes to the clarity. The VideoMicro's was more clean and clear and the Built in Mics were clear but wasn't as clean when it fell to silence, you could hear some digital noise where as the VideoMicro you didn't hear the compensation.My original concerns:1. Will the directional mic on focus forward and completely block out everywhere else. (It picked up voices in multiple directions very clearly but focused on the front)2. Will it function on my Lgv20? (it was a plug and play)3. How will it fair against the LGv20 3mics? (it was close but the video micro felt more focused)The build was solid - doesn't feel like it'll fall apart at all. The VideoMicro is a perfect compacted on camera microphone. It greatly improves the sound quality of your videos and it is so small you can keep it on you for whenever you will need it. It does not require any batteries since it uses the power from the camera. I did notice however that the batteries for the camera die a lot faster than it does when the microphone is not plugged in, so I do suggest purchasing extra batteries for your camera because you will need them. This microphone can be used on any camera that has an external microphone slot, and it does work very well with your cell phone. If you do use it with your cell phone you will need to get clever with how you mount it to the cell phone because I found that to be kind of tricky. It comes with a shockproof mount for the hot-shoe on the camera which is nice if you're filming outside or on the go. It also comes with the dead furry cat which also helps when you are outside because it gets rid of the popping sound from the wind. I tend to just leave it on the microphone even when I am filming inside because it does help eliminate background noise. This microphone is well worth the price and I do think if you're looking for a high quality portable microphone this one would be great,

El precio del Rode, no es muy caro considerando lo que estamos comprando. Claro que hay una que otra opción mas barata, pero esta marca nunca me falló, y la recomiendo bastante. La presentación es simple, empaquetado igual, y contamos con una hoja de garantía.El mic es ligero, plug- and go, y de buen material de construcción. En lo personal lo uso para vlogs, al ser youtuber este es de mis mejores amigos. El mic lo uso en una Sony Alpha A6300, lo corre bastante bien. Sientes una calidad significativa al usar este microfóno. La calidad aumenta al igual que el echo se reduce. El micrfono va de la mano con un cable rojo que es bastante extensible, por lo tanto es bastante flexible.Como capricho me hubiera gustado que este fuera rotatorio, para poder moverlo libremente dentro de su misma base, me haría uno que otro vídeo más fácil de grabar. Pero en fin, bastante bueno y recomendado. Si estas buscando un microfóno a buen precio DEJA DE BUSCAR, COMPRA ESTE, Y MEJORA TU CONTENIDO. Gracias.

I record video with my Conon 70D and audio with my Galaxy S8. This is easy to sync later. The camera is not capable of recording the sound in the format I like nor is it as crisp or clean. With my smartphone, the Røde adaptor and an external app I can record clean, crisp sound outdoors at 48khz WAV which is very easy to sync later.I also trialled plugging the mic into my camera and it had a hum and more noise. On further investigation, this is the camera, not the microphone.This microphone comes with a Global 2 year guarantee when purchased from this seller, which is really important for me as I live in Sweden. I was shocked to discover last year that Samsung does not as I bought a Galaxy S7 in India which did not work in Europe and was not guaranteed at all. In fact Samsung produces inferior products for the Indian market, even though they are the same price as Europe.This time I did my homework and am very satisfied with my purchase.

Zugelegt habe ich mir das Rode VideoMicro als Ergänzung zu meiner Canon M50.Deren internes Micro funktioniert, nimmt aber viel zu viele Umgebungsgeräusche, inklusive Geräusche der Kamera und des Objektivs, auf.Mit Rode Mikrofonen habe ich bisher sehr gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Ich habe 2 verschiedene bereits im Einsatz.Daher war auch in diesem Fall das Rode Micro meine erste Wahl. Hinzu kam der günstige Preis.Lieferumfang:1 Mikrofon1 Rycote Lyre-Aufhängung (rot)1 Anschlusskabel (rot)1 Windschutz1 Kurzanleitung1 Garantiekarte für Produktregistrierung.Das Ganze ist sehr stabil in einer Plastikschachtel verpackt. Kein Blister, sondern einfach leicht zusammengeschobene Schalen. Sehr löblich.Montage:Es liegt eine Kurzanleitung bei. Diese ist gut bebildert und erklärt nicht nur die einzelnen Komponenten und deren Montage, sondern weist auch darauf hin, den Lautstärkepegel der Kamera anzupassen.Die Montage ist aber wirklich selbsterklärend und in einer Minute erledigt.Dass man den Lautstärkepegel kontrolliert und ggf. anpasst, war mir auch bewusst von meinen anderen Kameras. Hierdurch wird auch jedwedes mögliche Mikrofonrauschen (konnte ich nicht feststellen) eliminiert.Einstellungen:Das Mikrofon wurde von der M50 direkt erkannt und es musste nichts extra eingestellt werden.Allerdings habe ich, wie oben beschrieben, den Lautstärkepegel angepasst (nach unten korrigiert).Das Mikrofon braucht keine Batterie, sondern wird von der Kamera gespeist. Hier sollte man vor dem Kauf seine Kamera auf Tauglichkeit prüfen.Qualität:Erster kurzer Test: meinen Sohn in der Küche gefilmt, Radio im Hintergrund, Mutter und Tochter in der Nähe.Mit dem M50 internen Mikro hört man alle Geräusche, inkl. Einstellungen an der Kamera, ungefähr gleich laut, was zur Folge hat, das mein Sohn so gut wie nicht zu verstehen ist.Mit dem Rode Mikro, das sich nach vorne orientiert, sind zwar Radio und andere Personen noch zu hören, aber eben nicht im Vordergrund, sondern irgendwo hinten, nicht mehr störend. Die Geräusche der Kamera, z.B. Einstellungen am Objektiv ändern, etc. sind NICHT mehr zu hören.Mein Sohn ist einwandfrei zu verstehen.Und so erreiche ich mit diesem Mikro genau das, was ich möchte.Ich hatte z. B. das Problem bei einer Aufnahme, das mein Atmen stets aufgenommen wurde.Das hat die komplette Aufnahme gestört. Wer will denn diese asthmatische Keuchen die ganze Zeit im Ohr haben? ;)Wie gesagt, mit diesem Mikro entfallen die ungewollten Geräusche komplett.Was mir nicht gefällt:Dass man die Farbe nicht wählen kann.Dass kein Aufbewahrungsbeutel dabei ist.Dass der Windfang so groß ist.Bei der M50 ist der Mikrofonanschluss auf derselben Seite wie der ausklappbare Bildschirm.Ist das Micro eingesteckt, lässt sich der Bildschirm zwar noch komplett aufklappen, aber nicht mehr drehen.Bei Innenaufnahmen habe ich keinen Unterschied gehört, ob mit, oder ohne Pudel/Deadcat aufgenommen wurde.Ein Windtest folgt, sobald möglich. Dieser wird hier entsprechend eingetragen.Preis/Leistung passt. Für den beabsichtigten Einsatzzweck, YT und Urlaubsvideos, einwandfrei.Bisher bin ich sehr zufrieden und kann nicht anders als volle Punktzahl geben.Update: 11.09.19Eigentlich müsste ich auf 4 Sterne runter gehen, da der Pudel/Deadcat bereits nach kurzer Zeit nicht mehr fest sitzt.Der Grund, weshalb ich das nicht mache, ist der versprochene Windtest, welchen das Mikro einwandfrei absolviert.Ich habe hierzu einen Auszug meiner Video-Rezension eingefügt.Update: 12.09.19Der Pudel sitzt einwandfrei.
