Easy learning curve for a multi-function domestic sewing machine
I recently decided to revisit my old hobby of sewing. I had a perfectly okay Brother sewing machine but the more I was using it, the more I became conscious of the many functions that newer sewing machines have that mine definitely didn’t. Some of the features that I won’t be willing to do without that this machine has include snap-on/snap-off presser feet, making a switch from one stitch type to another a matter of seconds rather than minutes; a drop-in bobbin that removes the need to fiddle with the upper thread/needle to pull up the bobbin thread before starting to sew as well as virtually ending the common problem of the bobbin thread snagging inside the machine; a library of stitches that come pre-programmed with optimal stitch length and width… selecting a stitch always starts with the preferred default values every time you select it; a better design for the the upper thread loading. They have somehow designed the unit so that the thread will automatically find itself on the correct side of the path being threaded instead of, as my older machine needed, requiring me to fiddle with flywheel on the right of the machine to get the different parts in the correct orientation to pass the thread around the parts correctly.; a built-in overstitch stitch for fray-prone fabrics; and lastly, the option to either use the foot peddle to control the speed of the stitches or choose to use the programmable stitch speed control for those of us who find their excitement, anxiety, or simple lack of patience leading to what feels like a high-speed chase where your current stitches are the barely in control car careening around the mountainous ess-curves, inches away from flying off into the valley below. This machine is well made, well designed, and wonderfully lightweight. I think it is a great starter machine for those wanting to learn the skills and tricks of sewing.

Great little machine but for one thing
I made this purchase in an emergency situation. I was away from home and was working on a special quilt when my 36 year old Viking machine stop working. There was no hope in getting it repaired as I was told several years ago when I had it in for a minor repair that future repairs would be impossible because they could no longer get the parts. The computer portion of the machine had died. So my search brought me to this Brother machine which had good reviews. The machine is great and was easy to set up because it came with one of the best instruction books I have seen in a long time. Needless to say I got the quilt top done in time for the long arm quilter to do the machine quilting. Plus this will be my new travel machine because it weighs half of what my Viking did. I only have one complaint. It comes with a hard plastic cover for storage and I cannot get it to fit down over the machine like it should. If someone also has had this problem please tell me your solution to getting it to fit.

It has pros and cons, over all a good machine.
Pros: I have now owned this machine 2 1/2 years so I feel comfortable making a review on it. The sewing machine is lightweight and portable. The table is very nice addition. A very affordable sewing machine for beginners or experienced people. Easy access to speed control and top drop in bobbin is a plus. Cons: At times these stitching pulls to the left. The decal on the automatic button has worn off. Does not affect the function of the machine. The machine is plastic and cannot be service. At this affordable price, I would just replace it when and if the time comes.

2nd time around for my Brother Quilting Machine
I belong to a craft group - - and I do more sewing on my 7 sewing machines (at least 4 different sewing machine makers) that I do crocheting. Do lots of both - just more with my Brother. My first Brother I had for about 25 years - - but I did so many quilts on it and heaving sewing that I bent the needle shaft. <sniff sniff>. I had to get another one - this one. The weight of this is somewhat heavy - BUT!!! that is definitely needed if/when you quilt OR sew heavy cloths like DENIM!!!! Gotta have that weight stability or your sewing suffers. This machine is perfect for ANY user - from the beginner to the professional! Features work for ALL talents and are easy to use. My new Brother sits on my table 24/7 on a quilted pad to create more stability .... quilts can be cumbersome and heavy! so the machine needs to be the same.

Great for Beginners
So far it's been great especially with the YouTube video for this machine; for me seeing is easier than reading and the setting up tutorial is fantastic going step by step. Learning as i go with all the built in stitching available making it easier to use. Brother is a reliable machine and so far so good.
