The Perfect Device for Making Greek Yogurt
I have just used this once and am blown away. I've been making yogurt for years but when I started making greek yogurt I strained it through cheese cloth and then had the nasty task of scraping it off the cheesecloth. Now, I start with a gallon of milk, let it ferment about 7 hours, then pour it through this magical device. It filled up the top and I doubted it would strain through. The next morning, the bottom was full of whey. I used a rubber spatula to sort of shovel the strained yogurt into containers. I got about 2 1/2 quarts of greek yogurn and a full quart of whey out of it. The yogurt is excellent. The device is really well designed and engineered. For straining it uses super fine nylon. The nylon is attached to a clevery designed frame that keeps it strong and well attached. I would not put it in a dishwasher, but it's easy to clean in a big sink with a sprayer. This is the larger size so it's large, considering that the top part holds a full gallon of milk and there's still room on the bottom for the whey. This thing is effing awesome.

1 gallon strainer made awesome Greek yogurt, and fit in fridge nicely. Can hold 1 Gallon + 1 quart.
I LOVE using my Instant Pot for yogurt, and it worked well with my strainer over a bowl, with several layers of coffee filters. But for the time it takes to watch the boiling and cooling temps*, the I.P. could absolutely do a gallon of milk for the same work. (Had been using a 1/2 gallon.) But my strainer fit the 1/2 gallon perfectly, and no more. Enter the Hatrigo 1-Gallon Greek Yogurt Strainer. It takes up less room in my fridge than the bowl I was using, and the oblong shape with straight sides contributes to that. The flat top with the cover allows other items in the fridge to be set on top of it if needed. It PERFECTLY fits 1 GALLON + 1 QUART of boiled/cooled/"cooked" for 8 hours yogurt, and strains out lots of whey to make thick, creamy, mild, delicious Greek yogurt. So now, I have erased my previous review, where I said it did not all come out in one piece, and was hard to clean. I HAVE NOW MASTERED THE PROCESS for easy release and cleanup! 1) *A digital kitchen thermometer is a must! The temps needed for boiling and cooling are quite specific, and the thermometer can alarm you when it hits the temps set. So much easier, accurate, and much less having to keep checking. 2) Boil some water, and pour over your clean IP inner pot, and your tools that you will use later. 3) Pour 1 Gallon, or 1 Gallon + 1 Quart into the sanitized Instant Pot. Press "Yogurt", and press again for "Boil". That usually brings it to around 165 degrees on mine, so then I put it on "Sanitize" for ONLY A FEW MINUTES to bring it up to 180 degrees. You want 180, and no more than 200 degrees. 4) Remove inner pot, and let cool to 105 to 114 degrees. I always shoot for 111 to 112 degrees. Use your digital thermometer. Watch CLOSELY as it is approaching your goal, as it can take a while at first, and then goes fast under 120. 5) Mix no more than 1/4 cup starter, using plain Greek yogurt, with a cup or 2 of the cooled milk. Pour that into the big pot, and mix well. (If you were doing only a 1/2 gallon, use 2T.) 6) Cover, and place into refrigerator for 8-12 hours. This is the step that changed my outcome for the better. 7) Spoon and pour into your Hatrigo strainer, and return to fridge for 12 hours, or once you think the majority of the whey has drained down. 8) Now you are ready to use the blue lid to flip the whole inner strainer onto a surface (I use a cutting board), and spoon it into jars. 9) Pour the whey into a container, and use in smoothies or baking. For smoothies, you can also freeze whey in ice cube trays for easy frozen portions. 10) Wash the strainer immediately, under running water, and it will clean easily. If scraping sides, be very careful to not use too much pressure that might push out the screening. In one photo, you can see some of the yogurt came through the strainer. After pouring off most of your whey, you can restrain that and get a bit more yogurt out of it. I love these Le Parfait 750ml (3/4's liter, or 25.36oz.) straight-sided mason jars pictured. The curved jar holds the same amount. The photos here show how much yogurt and whey comes out of the gallon + 1 quart. We love adding vanilla, fruit, and a little bit of honey.

Yogurt essential
I have never used a kitchen appliance more than I use this yogurt maker. The best Greek yogurt, the healthiest Greek yogurt. Once you make yogurt with one of these, you will never want to buy store-bought Greek yogurt again. And it’s really very easy. Easy clean-up too!

Big, Sturdy Tank of a Greek Yogurt Strainer
So, I finally got my hands on the Hatrigo 1-Gallon Greek Yogurt Maker with the fancy extra fine mesh stainless steel strainer. Let me tell you, it's definitely an upgrade from that other "Euro" brand I tried before this. This yogurt maker claims to TRANSFORM your plain yogurt into Greek yogurt, and boy, does it deliver. It can strain up to a full gallon of yogurt at once, which is perfect for me because I like to go big or go home when it comes to my yogurt-making adventures. The stainless steel mesh is the real star here. Forget about those cheap filters the other brand uses and tear too easily, this one's built to last "forever." Okay, maybe not forever, but you get the idea. It's food-safe and super fine, making my yogurt super-thick and creamy. No more running to the store for sour cream or cream cheese; this makes Greek yogurt thick enough to replace those (if you leave it in overnight.) Now, I gotta be honest, it's kinda big. Takes up a chunk of fridge space, but hey, it's worth it to get the job done in one go. Leave it in the fridge overnight, and voila! You've got the thickest Greek yogurt you could ask for. All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with this yogurt strainer. It does what it promises without any fuss, and it's a definite upgrade from my previous experience. If you're into making your own Greek yogurt, this Hatrigo thing is the way to go. Happy yogurt-ing!

Works okay, but I feel like it takes a little longer to drain
Previous to getting this I was straining my homemade yogurt with cheesecloth in a colander placed over a mixing bowl in the fridge....talk about an annoying process that took up a lot of space. Getting this has made that whole chore much easier, but it does feel like I need to leave the yogurt in the strainer for a longer period of time to get a similarly thick result. This is less of a problem than it would have been using my previous method because the shape of this thing makes it take up way way less space in the fridge, plus the lid on it makes me really not worried about leaving it to sit in there for 2 or 3 days at a time. So it might take a little longer, but it is well worth it because it is so well contained. Cleaning this on the other hand definitely takes a little more effort. I'd like to see the mesh strainer last for a long time, so I am very careful with the way I clean it, essentially just using soapy water and letting it soak and then rinsing it all clean. While this works for the most part, it does take way more time than if you could just scrub it and be done, or throw it in the dishwasher. Overall I'm pleased with my purchase, I don't think it's perfect, but considering I make yogurt pretty much every weekend now, I'm happy to have something that makes the process a little easier.

It works perfectly for straining my homemade yogurt!
I absolutely love this thing!!!! I didn’t think I had a lot of whey in my yogurt until this strainer arrived. I’d put the yogurt in the fridge without straining it since I didn’t have cheesecloth or a nut bag but I ordered this after I saw someone on YouTube using something similar and I am so happy I did! I got the 2 quart size I think since I don’t plan on making more than a half gallon at a time and it works beautifully. So much whey collected in the bottom of the container I was shocked. I just flipped the yogurt out onto the lid when it was done straining and it held its shape (looked a bit like a jello mold lol) and it was so easy to scoop into a container to keep it refrigerated. I would not suggest trying to scoop it out of the mesh , flipping it out onto the lid is easier, less messy and less wasteful if you’ve drained it enough. No wasted yogurt, you have to love that! The yogurt came out so thick and creamy, it needs to be stirred before serving to achieve the creaminess but it is delicious and the flavor was great. I bought a plain store bought yogurt with live active cultures to make this batch but I have some actual cultures coming to see which makes the nicest yogurt. I used my instant pot to make the yogurt too, very easy! Clean up was pretty easy, I just used the sink faucet to remove the little excess yogurt from the mesh and let it soak in its own container before hand washing it. Worked like a charm! Frankly I can’t say enough good things about this item. It seems to be a one trick pony but it does that trick like a pro and it’s a must have when making your own yogurt. Just be aware the mesh looks delicate so hand washing after soaking is key. I wouldn’t trust it in the dishwasher. Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase!

Strains very well
This holds a full gallon of yogurt comfortably. I've read a lot of reviews and Hatrigo must have listened. My lid is more like a harder rubber and a softer plastic as it is very pliable and I dont feel it will break easily, even after being in the fridge. The strainer mesh is very fine, the handles are on the side for easy pick up. I have had no yogurt seep through the mesh or the holes in the center black part. It works flawlessly. If you make yogurt and like ot turn it to greek and you make 1 gallon batches at a time, this is a must. it fits on the shelf in the fridge nicely. For those who say its hard to clean, I remove my yogurt from this after about 12 hours and transfer containers. if I let it sit in there and use the strainer as the container, I feel it strains out too much and the yogurt is more like paste. 12 hours is tops for me. I do highly recommend this and dare I say a must if you do your own yogurt for ease of cleaning and ease of use from start to finish

strainer is easy to clean and dishwasher safe
I’m a big fan of Greek yogurt, but I hate how expensive and wasteful it is to buy it from the store. That’s why I decided to invest in the Hatrigo 1-Gallon Greek Yogurt Maker1. It’s a genius device that lets you make your own Greek yogurt at home with just some regular yogurt and milk. No need for fancy machines or electricity, just a sturdy stainless steel strainer and a large container. The process is simple: you just pour your yogurt and milk into the strainer, cover it with the lid, and let it sit in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. The whey will drain out and leave you with thick and creamy Greek yogurt that you can enjoy as it is or flavor it with your favorite toppings. You can also use the whey for baking, smoothies, or feeding your plants. The best part is that you can make up to 1 gallon of Greek yogurt at a time, which saves you money and reduces plastic waste. The strainer is easy to clean and dishwasher safe, and the container is BPA-free and leak-proof. The strainer also has an extra fine mesh that prevents any yogurt from escaping. The only downside is that you need a lot of fridge space to store this giant yogurt maker. It’s not exactly compact or discreet, so be prepared to rearrange your fridge or get some weird looks from your family or guests. But hey, it’s worth it for the delicious homemade Greek yogurt that you can enjoy anytime. If you’re looking for a way to make your own Greek yogurt at home without any hassle, I highly recommend the Hatrigo 1-Gallon Greek Yogurt Maker1. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to love. It’s the best thing that ever happened to my breakfast…and lunch…and dinner…and snacks.

Amazing! 💯 Works perfectly!
The 2nd photo is putting the homemade Greek yogurt into the basket. You can see it is a bit runny. The 1st photo is just under the recommended 12 hr drain time in the fridge. Absolutely 💯 perfect & exactly what we were looking for!! I now can make "Skyr" at home for a FRACTION of the cost, control all the ingredients and it made my Icelandic 🇮🇸 husband very happy! It will be a weekly make in our house! Notes - this basket and container are very large - definitely double check the size as you need to plan for it to be in the fridge for 6 - 12 hours. - The basket is excellent, sturdy and well built. We found it so,do much easier than fiddling around with cheesecloth. I would love to buy the next size down as well if it ever becomes available. - if you use half a 4l jug of milk, be aware thar draining your yogurt like this will decrease your yield as it becomes super thick. 2 Liters 3% Milk equaled approx 650ml when done, as opposed to leaving your Greek yogurt runner with a higher yield. You just have to remember to eat less of the thick yogurt as it is much higher protein content and higher density. It's totally a preference for sure, but we definitely love this!! We make our own jelly and mix it with this and a little fresh fruit. Mindblowing - we will never go back!

Great & Anyone struggling to clean it afterwards - I got you!
Bought this to strain cream cheese & yoghurt - works a treat. Lots have complained that its difficult to clean afterwards. Use SPC (Sodium Percarbonate) more often used as a brewing equipment sanitiser, its also the active ingredient in Oxywhite. Empty your cream cheese/yoghurt. Rinse off the surplus. Add around half a cup of SPC, to the container, and put it in the sink. Place the basket inside then top up with hot water - the basket floats a little so weigh it down - I used the beater off my food mixer. It will froth up a lot so leave the lid off. Leave for a couple of hours or overnight. Rinse & your done!!
