parts missing.... REPLACED
addendum to earlier rating: As I said I contacted the manufacturer via the e-mail on the instructions. I did not ever get a response. HOWEVER just a couple days ago I received a package from the company with the necessary parts to make the lamp totally functional. Lamp is basically OK. The only problem is that it is missing one of the spring retainers on one of the arms. Therefore one spring cannot be used. They are a piece of plastic that screws onto a threaded screw. You can see where it has pulled off as there are remnants of plastic on the threads. The shipping box itself has large enough openings that it probably fell out. OH, and it says comes with a 13 Watt CFL Bulb, but it arrived with an LED bulb, which in my opinion is better.

Sturdy Lamp. 95% Metal Construction.
It cost less than my last desk/drawing/work light and is way better. It's made of all metal parts, except for the thumb/wing nut style things you turn to tighten the small bolts at the elbows, the pegs that the springs are mounted on, and the table clamp. I recommend buying a solid metal table clamp for it. They're cheap on Amazon. Those and the on/off switch are the only plastic parts. Especially like that the little arm that holds the lamp to the end of the arm is what looks like stainless steel, since it gets turned a lot when you're working to get the best light angle. The lamp almost turns 360°, it will turn up but not straight up to the ceiling. Highly recommend this lamp. Super affordable, gets the job done, and high quality construction. I looked at LOTS of swing arm lamps that cost more but unless you're loaded $ no need for anything fancier. This is the best most cost effective lamp on Amazon at the time I bought it a few months ago. It's seen loads of up/down/forward/back/turning and still looks & feels new.

Excellent product!... For the most part
The lamp pretty much has everything I am looking for. It is sturdy and durable, all of its pivotal points being made of metal. It holds its position well and the watt output is phenomenal. One of the most notable thing is how well it is ventilated. Other metal lamps I have used before would get extremely hot due to poor ventilation. That's not the case with this fantastic lamp. The clamp is made out of plastic and it is not as sturdy as the lamp itself but it does the job and it will not go anywhere once it is clamped well. Overall the lamp itself is great. But I took the liberty of buying lamp + light bulb (for some reason, it was cheaper with than it was without for some odd reason). Little did I know the light bulb was broken and shattered when I opened the box. I don't mind losing out on a CFL light bulb, but I do mind picking through broken glass bits and traces of mercury. It looked like the manufacturer just glued the light bulb box on the inside wall of the lamp box, which then came loose during shipping and was promptly destroyed by the lamp. That minor issue aside, I highly recommend this lamp.

Good
I only wish it was a bit more stable when moving, though I understand it's hard to keep it perfectly still at whatever position you put it. Works great!

Excellent!
I returned 3 others from Amazon. This one is slightly better quality than the others. it's a little more maneuverable than the others too. But even more important for me is this one will also point basically straight up to the ceiling. I usually don't take the time to review items, but I had to on this one. Studio Designs swing arm lamp rocks!

Exact what I’ve been searching for
I’ve had this lamp for many years. I have one at each work station in my art room for about 10 years. I’m not exactly easy on them either. In the last year the spring eventually broke but still worked. Screws fell out and lost so I glued it together. I fixed another part with a zip tie. What I’m saying is that I really love this lamp that I rigged it till I no longer could. I searched and searched and all the others were led (which I hate because they give me headaches) or they have switches on the cord (I hate unkept cords). I ordered a lamp that seemed like it could work but it was comically small and the fixed light source was like looking directly into the sun. The only thing that could make this lamp better would be if it was a three way switch, but I’m thrilled to have found the same lamp I originally purchased from Menards. I will say it’s more sturdy if you can remove the padding on the bottom and skip the clamp and screw it right into your table if you can.

80% of a Lamp...
Very cheap but you get what you paid for.... Which in my case is 80% of a lamp! I am missing pieces critical to functionality, and thus my product is non-functional. Yay me.... Luckily as a expert jerry-rigger I'm coping with my bad purchase decision better than most. The socket fits and is held in place via a hole on the back of the housing using the switch as a bolt (which has course threads like a screw on the base). It obviously needs a specific retaining nut to hold it in place so it doesn't just drop out but no such item is available to me (probably metric or china specific). I'm using a retaining pin from breakpads to hold it right now, but I'm looking for a better solution. Wouldn't it be nice if something just -worked- out of the box? It isn't all bad, I like that it has a ceramic socket ( which is good for high heat bulbs), the hood is deep enough to cover an incadescent (I don't know about a CFL bulb), and the frame collapses down neatly. However, the springs are poor quality and are prone to falling off when the lamp is relaxed. When they are strained the slim single circle of wire that attaches them to the lamp bends and strains worringly; I'm having premonitions this thing, likely in an act of revenge for this review, will dive face first into my watercolor when I least expect it. Now that would be my luck! The clamp is a hit or miss... the way the lamp attaches to it is no more secure than daisies in a vase. It's prone to swinging around all willy-nilly and isn't suited for people who tend to rock the table it's attached to.

Old fashion design but I am sure it will last a long time. I added a LED bulb and that is why I like this style. Perfect for the work bench or a desk top. I replaced a similar lamp that was 25 years old...hope this will last even 10 years. Built in LED's look good and work well...but when those LED's burn out and they will...you have to buy another lamp and the design you purchased may no longer be available... with this style I only have to replace the bulb.

Lamp itself is great and came with the light bulb, however the base of the lamp is plastic and sits on top of the desk making it unstable. Had the lamp for less than 4 months when the 1st piece of plastic broke and within a couple of weeks it completely shattered not surprisingly. Unless the manufacturer of this product modifies their base either look else where for a completely different design or purchase a more solid base right from the start. I ended up finally finding an inexpensive metal base that did the trick.

Clamp is a little iffy but it works amazing, sturdy metal and large shade, it perfectly lights the room. I have two on my ikea night stands for an industrial Instagram look

I mean, 40 dollars something is not a lot of money for a lamp these days. Turns out this thing doesn't worth more than 10$. The clamp on this lamp is so crappy that I can't see it lasting more than a week. If I wanted a cheap lamp, I would have gotten one for 20$ at Canadian Tire, and it would have been sturdier.

Switch broke after two months of use. Liked the look and was quite happy with the product until this happened. It’s now sitting in my closet. Was too much trouble to return because of the whole Covid situation…
