Love these. Great purchase decision.
Overall these boots are amazing. Great value for the money. I've received many compliments on them and would recommend them to others. I have athletic calves and narrow ankles and my biggest gripe with most riding boots is the bunching that inevitably occurs around the ankles after normal wear. I am noticing less of this with the Penny Riding Boot but it still feels to be a bit loose around the ankle. Update: After wearing in 1.5 winters I can say the quality stands and my only negative comment would be that the leather in the foot bed seems to stretch a little bit. If you’re between sizes then size down so your foot doesn’t slide around later. Pros: - beautiful, premium quality and overall fit - very comfortable - true to color - soft buttery leather - easy to zip on and off - elastic detail on shaft provides a little wiggle room to fit boot socks or thick leggings Cons: - Small amount of bunching around the ankle (for those w/ narrow ankles)

but it's a nice boot. It's surprisingly nice for $150
So...I own the Frye Melissa button and I would say these are comparable in style for over 50% less. No, it's not Frye, but it's a nice boot. It's surprisingly nice for $150. Maybe shockingly nice for that price. The leather is really soft albeit thinner than the Melissa Button, so it might not stand on it's own. I have a boot rack, so not an issue for me. Also, there are plastic boot inserts that work wonderfully. I use for storage. The only negative is the boot runs a tad long in the toe/foot. I think closer to a 7.5. I am always a solid 7 except when it comes to Sam Edelman. Their sizing is inconsistent. I would exchange for a 6.5, but I feel the foot would then be too tight, so I'm keeping these. Oh...there are really comfortable. The rubber sole is nice too...no slipping. I almost forgot...there are really cute!!!

Super soft, beautiful boots - pretty narrow and don't work well with bunions
I have a boot addiction. I bought these boots in search of a Frye lookalike boot but with more comfort and stretch. I purchased these boots in grey and they were beautiful and crisp coming out of the box. The inside of the top of boot is shorter than the outside part of the leg which leaves an asymmetrical appearance that I like. I am a typical 9.5 in boots and a size 10 in shoes. I have small calves and long, thin legs and these fit mine perfectly. Good boots like these will stretch with use. I am already noticing a bit of stretch around the ankle after only 2 wears. I hope this doesn't continue too much because I don't want them to appear baggy at the ankles. There is a touch of black shadowing along the base/sole and heel, which gives a classy look. There is a thicker patch of leather behind the heel that adds a nice effect as well. I like the zipper up the back with snap across. My only complaint is that the foot is pretty tight in width and I have extremely narrow feet. I do have bunions, however, which is likely causing the problem. The area around my bunions feels the tightest and is already starting to show the knot through the leather. If you have bunions, I don't recommend these in comparison to other boots I own. Update 11-16-17: I’ve now worn these boots about 10 times and they fit perfectly. The stretched out gradually and have molded beautifully to my feet. The are so comfy that I find myself wearing them all day, even when I’m home from work! Very impressed with their durability and high quality leather.

... that I have been an Amazon Prime member for like 12 years and purchase several things a week
Let me just say that I have been an Amazon Prime member for like 12 years and purchase several things a week....I have never written a review until today. These boots arrived at my work this morning. I purposely wore skinny jeans on the off chance that if these worked out I could actually wear them today. I took the box in my office, shut the door and prepared myself for the disappointment I know so well with tall boots. I happen to know my right calf is a little bigger than my left so I put the right boot on first. I struggled a little pushing my jean and sock into the boot around the ankle and then up up up went the zipper. To the top! OMG!!! Needless to say the left boot went on very easily. Victory! I wore them out to lunch before writing this review. They are super comfortable, however I have a narrow foot and obviously a very wide calf. I read some reviews from people with wide feet that found these boots too tight - for me they are perfect in both the foot and calf. I could see the zipper rubbing a little on back of your ankle, but I tuck my jeans into my socks so that didn't bother me. I'm really pleased with the leather - I chose the whiskey and it looks nice - I think they will get better with age. I love that they are leather all over and don't have any big elastic panel or anything giving away the fact that they are wide calf boots. Like some other reviewers mentioned, they do seem a tad long in length. I wear an 8 and the 8's are almost too big for me, if I purchase another color I may go with a 7.5. Anyway, if you are hesitating and have had lots of disappointments like so many of us ladies with big calves, give these a try. I wish Sam Eldleman would make the exact same boot with a 2-3" heel, I would love a pair that doesn't make me feel feel quite so stumpy.

If You Wear Wides In Most Brands, be Prepared to Size WAY UP
I bought this pair and a pair of the black variety together. The black ones arrived nearly 3 weeks in advance of this brown pair, so please note my experiences noted here are in relation to the black variety; as I returned this brown pair shortly after receiving for a refund. In short, wide is NOT wide in this brand, and it is obvious it's the company's problem for not sizing wides correctly, and not you, the consumer. I typically wear a 8W in most brands, such as Brooks, Aerosoles, Dansko with zero problems and with minimal break-in time. Based off of the reviews, I got a 8.5W REGULAR CALF in these and wore them for about a week to give them some time to break in. Unfortunately there was no stretch, and too much rubbing for my already wide feet. Even my quite thin, but muscular calves were tight in these boots and I usually have zero issues with calf-diameter in knee-high boots. I went to exchange the black pair for a 9W WIDE CALF. Please note that, if you, like myself, are hopeful that the WIDE CALF version also has a wider foot base, you'll be woefully wrong. The wide calf is just that -- wider only at the calf. It doesn't mean that the foot base is any wider. As I noted at the start, this brand would not know a wide foot if the foot kicked them in the shin. Thankfully exchanging a 9W WIDE CALF has mostly worked out, as the calves are definitely wider, but there are the occasional days where I have swelling from PMS and then they are back to being tight in the toe-box for the day. I'm giving this product (vs the brown version) an extra star for having the black in the 9W WIDE CALF which the brown version did not. But really this isn't rocket science to design a WIDER foot for a boot and it seems like this company hasn't figured that out yet. If I was going to start fresh, I'd probably order a 9.5W WIDE CALF but honestly, I'd probably look at Rockport since their knee high wide boots had a lot of good reviews.

Squeaky boots
I got these boots and they’re very very pretty. The problem is they squeak really bad when I walk. I bought them in September and our weather did not get cold until December. That’s when I found out how bad they squeak cause that’s when I tried to wear them. I’ve tried several things to eliminate the squeak and it will not stop. I called Sam Edelman‘s helpline and they said I have to go through Amazon. What do I do? My return date is passed.

Beautiful boots!
I came across these boots via a blogger I follow and they are SO cute. I wear 8.5 or 9 in flats and usually a 9 in boots. I selected the 9 in these boots and they fit well! I like the wide calf for comfort. Interestingly, the foot part of this wide-calf shoe is somewhat narrow. I ordered these while I was pregnant and received them while I was in the hospital giving birth. When I got home, I tried them on, and I couldn't get them on due to normal pregnancy swelling in the foot. However, a few weeks later, my swelling has apparently gone down as I (thankfully!) can fit them. I have a few other pairs of Sam Edelman shoes and I purchased them in the wide version (9W was more comfortable than the 9M) so if this boot had been available as a wide calf + wide foot, I probably would have chosen that instead. The boots are well made and will hopefully last for many years to come with proper care!!

Well made, beautiful and comfortable!
I was able to snag a used pair of these boots (size 5.5M) at a crazy good price and I couldn’t be happier with them! My feet are frustratingly small and I range from a children’s size 3 or 4 to an adult size 6, depending on the type of footwear and the brand (smaller sizes for flats, size 6 for sneakers and boots). I took the chance and ordered the 5.5’s, worried that they would be too small or too narrow, but to my delight, they are a comfortable fit! If I wear my typical winter socks, they are snug feeling but with thinner socks they feel perfect. A size 6 would probably be my ideal size for wearing these in the winter. I don’t think my feet are particularly wide or narrow for their size, so I think ordering these in your usual boot size would be fine, unless you have wider feet. To be on the safe side, you could order a half size up. This is my first pair of Sam Edelman’s boots and I'm impressed by the quality construction. Besides the softness and distinct smell of the leather, the boots have a nice thick lug sole which won’t wear out quickly and the zipper feels smooth to open and close. The gold button accents are a nice touch. The height of the boots measured from the back (where the zipper is located), is 16.5 inches, so I can bend my knees at a 90 degree angle (sitting, climbing stairs) without the boot brushing the back of my knees (I'm 5'3"). The boot shaft is narrow enough that I can’t just slide my feet into them (I can’t get past the ankle bend) so I have to zip the boot open to slide my feet in. My calves aren’t particularly muscular (12.5 inches wide) so I have about 2 fingers’ width worth of room in the calf area which is plenty to wear pants or leggings with leg warmers/boot socks. These are comfortable to walk and stand in for several hours and if these ever go on sale in the future, I will buy another pair without hesitation (I don’t often pay full ticket price for my footwear).

Beautiful pair of boots. Leather slightly lighter than expected, but still a quality boot. Well made with soft supple leather.
