An Alternative to 'Shave' Saxophone Reeds With
This is what I use to 'file' my natural Saxophone reeds with - for Consistentcy! (yeah, it's a thing). It has small burs on each edge. That edge, when used lightly, shaves the reed. The reed's edges should be tapered to a consistent wings shape while the center 'v' shape is thicker. There is a quality commercial steel tool available for this that has specific edges to use and there is another small file that comes with a textured piece of glass for filling the backs flat. But for me, this piece of stainless steel is cost effective, works well and will last for ever. It's normally used with a CNC machine, but it works for filing Sax reeds too! That makes it perfect for this task!

Great steel for making wood turning tools using carbide cutters!

Old School Cobalt Rocks!
I Purchased this 1/2 x 1/2 x 6 HSS with cobalt as it was the go to when making a carbide tool would be more time consuming or costly. I hand ground the tool until I had a 40 degree angle point as I have been doing for 40+ years, then finished with a diamond hone. Once in place, it cut a Poly-V groove into the 5" dia. 6061 T6 alum like butter- Keep the cutting oil flowing too! Choosing the 6 inch tool bit insured it would be held more securely in the tool post holder. 5 stars.

Work well for the price
Only gave 4 stars because these chip easier than the Cr08 cutters

Performs well
Just ground one of these into a RH tool and turned the rusty crust off of a 1.5" diameter mystery-metal steel shaft. Edge held up well. Grinds and hones well. Seems to be high quality, at least for a hobbiest.

Well I gave 3 stars because the product is good.. Nice piece. But the shipping and wait time was horrible. I could of walked to any warehouse in the U.S. and had it in my hand faster. Like many others, I base my purchase off of the best bang for the buck.. More importantly. How fast can I get it . we all look at the "get it by etc date" this initially promised a few days.. Then as soon as I purchase it . The delivery date suddenly changes and I'm waiting weeks. You guys have to drive to the mine and dig the ore out of the ground? For a minute I thought I must of got this off eBay. Like I said. The product is fine.. the shipping must of been from the other side of the country in the back of an Amish horse and buggy

The tool steel blanks come nicely protected in their own individual sleeves. I ordered the 3/8" (9.525mm) by 5" variant. Four of the five blanks looked more or less perfect, with a clean ground finish. It's difficult to photograph, but one blank had some strange buffed or polished finish at the ends, which measured undersize (9.474mm). The blank still measured true in the center. You can see the odd finish in the attached photos (if you're viewing on desktop, right-click the image and select "View Image In New Tab" to view the full-resolution image). This defect likely doesn't matter very much as you're probably going to be grinding the ends anyway. Aside from the one issue, the blanks seem to be pretty decent quality.

Won’t be finished making the plane for a few days yet - so no picture! But was just what I was looking for and couldn’t obtain from machine shop web sites, plus once I ordered it was here the very next day. Kudos!
