Portable Hand Powered High Efficiency Clothes Washing Machine - Improved Heavy Duty Riveted Metal Threads

My original review is on top. I included an update towards the bottom. TLDR: This tool significantly reduces the time, effort, and mess it normally takes to handwash medium to large batches of laundry. It's effective at thoroughly cleaning items. I mostly use this tool to pre-wash/wash heavily soiled items that I feel are too dirty to put in my washing machine. However, I recently began using it to clean all of my laundry as my washing machine broke down. It greatly cuts down on water and energy usage when used to wash light to moderately soiled laundry. I docked a star because the plastic handle started splitting at the seam after just 1 year of somewhat regular use. I used duct tape to repair it, so it's still usable for now. However, the plastic bottom is beginning to wiggle a bit as if it is wearing out at the threaded point that attaches to the pole. I would buy this item again to use on heavily soiled items and for special situations while relying on my washing machine to tackle the majority of my laundry needs. I would be hesitant to rely on it as the primary method for cleaning all of my laundry as I don't think it could handle the workload for very long. Although I'm very satisfied with its ease of use and how well it cleans, I would first try to find a similar item that's either cheaper or of better quality. (As in an item that's unlikely to start falling apart in under 2 years with regular use.) If I couldn't find anything better, I would buy this item again. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This tool has been a total game changer in how quickly and how well I'm able to keep my linens, appliances, & overall house clean. I bought this item to make it easier to pre-wash VERY dirty items before putting them in my washing machine. And to occassionally deep clean some otherwise "clean" linens (i.e., laundry stripping). I'm not the homesteading type, and I actually own a great washing machine & dryer. I just like to properly maintain my machines to ensure they can continue effectively cleaning the majority of our household linens. I find it a lot easier to pre-clean heavily soiled laundry as needed than having to frequently clear out all the nooks, crannies, filters, & hoses of my appliances. I also just enjoy having really clean clothes and linens. I mainly got this item to find an easier way to pre-wash my aging dogs' bedding & towels before running them thru my washer & dryer. (I use this tool to clean a bunch of other stuff, too, though.) I have 3 dogs. As they've gotten older, they shed a lot more. And their coats now get very greasy despite regular bathing. They also require fluffier and warmer bedding at their age. And to top it all off, we now live in an area where they constantly track in dirt & mud. So their bedding gets very furry & dirty quickly. My dogs have a lot of bedding. Mostly machine-washable mats, mattress encasements, sheets, & blankets. All ranging from infant/toddler sized items to very thick, throw-size blankets. If I don't keep up with a regular cleaning routine, their stuff gets very smelly. And fur starts to tranfer all around the house. I used to pre-wash my dogs' bedding (and other messy items) in my bathtub. But I've gotten older, too. Stooping over a tub takes a toll on my already bad back. I also have a handicapped wrist. Plus, the whole process is just messy in general. It started taking me half a day to pre-wash all of their stuff and clean my bathroom afterwards. (This doesn't even account for the time it took to then cycle all of their items through my laundry machines.) It got to the point that I was needing to do this *at least* every other week - sometimes weekly. I'd feel sore for at least 2 days afterwards. I tried the toilet plunger & bucket trick for a while. It was a lot easier & quicker than using just my hands. But it was only slightly more effective at actually cleaning *if* I went at it long enough. For some items, using my hands seemed more effective. I even added holes to the plunger to help move water thru the fabrics better. But then the plunger would gradually weaken until it needed to be replaced. It just didn't work out as well as I hoped. At the rate that I was replacing the plunger, it would have been just a bit pricier (and a whole lot easier) to replace my dogs' increasingly grimey bedding with items from a thrift store every so often. But I couldn't bring myself to be so wasteful. Then I discovered this laundry tool! I was very skeptical to purchase it at first. I think I spent a whole week looking into it & debating whether it was worth it. (I really do hate being wasteful. Even if it means buying low quality items that I know will end up in landfill after minor use. I also hate feeling like I wasted money that could've gone towards something much better.) This item seemed quite pricey considering how simple it looked. I was bothered by the reviews complaining that the item was cheap & flimsy. (There was an identical looking item also listed on Amazon. I chose this one bc the other one had more complaints about the pole being flimsy or wearing down quickly. Apparently small parts of the pole are made with different materials. This item seemed to be made with more durable parts according to all the little details I was able to gather.) I was also skeptical that this item wouldn't clean any better than the plunger method. After all, they both essentially seemed to do the same thing. Luckily, I was wrong. This item is far superior. It does seem to be made with cheap materials that don't warrant such a high price tag. But the item has held up after several months of weekly to semi-weekly (every 1-2 wks) sessions of washing dog bedding, towels, and a lot of other stuff. The plastic parts are pretty thick, so they're not easy to break if used as intended. Mine has survived many short drops on hard indoor flooring. I'm sure I could bend the metal pole if I put in the effort. (But why would I do that?) So far, it hasn't bent, broke, or started to feel loose with normal & proper use. The pole feels thicker, stronger, & sturdier than the pole of a Swiffer stick. It's about the quality of my heavy duty household mop (not to be mistaken for commercial quality). It's just a lot more narrow and assembled in 3 pieces. It turns out the overall design and firmness of the plastic head make this item way more effective at cleaning laundry than a thick rubber cup-style plunger with holes drilled into it. The pole length and handle make it way easier to use. VERY back & wrist friendly. (I just had some minor back procedures that made it difficult to bend & twist for several wks. I was still able to use this thing during that time. I just needed a little help putting items into a bucket & getting them out. This thing seriously reduces the amount of work & effort you have to put in when trying to thoroughly wash any items larger than socks & underwear.) This laundry tool saves a ton of time since you don't need to agitate the clothes as much or as forcefully as you do when using a plunger. I don't even break a sweat while using it. I no longer have to shower after handwashing a ton of items because I got very sweaty or otherwise messy during the process. I found it's best to use this tool to wash very small loads in either a 5 or 7 gallon bucket, preferably inside of my bathtub or shower stall. The bucket seems to improve the agitation process since water is pushed and pulled against the walls, and it saves on the amount of water used. I can separate items that I'd rather not wash as one giant load (i.e., dog blankets or cleaning rags with my work uniforms, etc.). It allows me to wash some items multiple times while just doing a quick wash on others. The bathtub helps catch any accidental splashes, and it's just a convenient spot for pouring in/out water and hang drying some items. I either use my tub or a big plastic storage bin to wash larger items, such as multiple bath towels or thick throw-size blankets. Since using this tool, my dogs' bedding look, feel, & smell cleaner than they have in a very long time. The first couple of times I used this tool to pre-wash their bedding, I ended up going at least 5 full rounds on all items. It removed so much deeply embedded grime that had built up over the years. I spent about half a day just cleaning all of their bedding as much as possible. I just couldn't stop myself when I saw all the grime that was coming out. I even did this for our bath mats & house slippers. It's crazy how much filth came out & the noticable difference this thing has made! Now, it usually takes me less than an hour (minus any soaking time where I'm away doing other things) to pre-wash the majority of the dogs' linens and to clean up afterwards. Keep in mind, I'm covering a lot of heavily soiled linens that are already difficult to handwash simply because of their size or bulkiness. It's enough linens to fill my extra large washer twice. I went from doing 4-6 hrs of work (followed by 2 days of back and wrist pain) for decently clean laundry to less than an hour of work for impressively clean laundry (and zero residual pain). I love this thing. I also use this tool to deep clean reusable mop pads, mop heads, swiffer pads/covers, rags, and such. It's great because my washing machine doesn't need to be rinsed out or wiped down after use. In fact, I don't have to run all the extra cleaning cycles that I used to. I don't have to clean out the filter, drainage hose, and gasket as much either. I don't have to worry about various chemicals lingering in the basin and transferring onto clothes. I've bought more reusable cleaning items and started using them more frequently (and for a lot messier jobs) because they're so much easier to keep up with now. Best of all, our regular laundry (the items I don't pre-wash by hand) continue to come out very clean & fresh after laundering with minimal effort. I no longer have to deal with hidden build up in the washer. (Side note: If you're interested in buying this item to keep up with pet bedding & ultra dirty items, you still have to vacuum or shake out as much fur & other debri as possible before washing. This thing is awesome, but it's not a miracle worker. It does work very well to lift out a lot of the stuck on pet fur that simpler methods can't remove, though. If you have a good filter on your shower drain, you'll be amazed at all that you were able to wash off and prevent from getting caught up in your washing machine.) I can't say how well this item breaks apart for storage because I've only taken the plastic bottom part off twice - just to make sure nothing was building up inside that I wasn't aware of. (Nothing was. I just make sure to spray all the crevices down very well with my handheld shower nossle. I have decent water pressure, which helps to blast any particles out. Occassionally, I just throw a clean or fairly clean towel in very hot bleach water and use this thing to wash it. Then I leave this sitting in the bleach water for 10 min or so before rinsing it off. That's my method for periodically disinfecting. It has been effective so far.) I keep this laundry tool sitting in a bucket in my laundry room when not in use. I live in a rather small home, but it doesn't take up too much more space when fully assembled vs disassembled. Plus, I use it so often that I see no point in disassembling it. But it's nice to know I can for camping trips and traveling. If you live in a camper/RV or other extremely tiny dwelling, then this thing will probably seem quite bulky. It takes up a lot more room than a large toilet plunger. I don't like leaving it my bathroom for this reason. It's too large for my tiny bathroom, but it's small enough to hide in the corner of my mini laundry room. I would buy this item again for the same purposes. I would also buy it to handwash clothes if I didn't have a washing machine. (I'd occasionally want to take my clothes to a laundry mat, though. Maybe that's just because I'm not used to handwashing everything. And maybe because I have an unrealistic belief that a washing machine is superior to handwashing.) It's also great for stripping laundry if that's something you like to do. The only other thing to note is that if you don't have a washer or dryer, you'll need to find an easy way to wring out your linens after washing. I just use my hands... but I'm not trying to get everything as dry as possible (just dry enough to ensure they're as clean as I want before transferring to my washing machine). I tried laying items along my tub and using this to press the water out. It was not effective in the slightest. As far as energy efficiency goes... it can be. It definitely cuts down on washing machine use, which significantly reduces power usage. It has made me more open to using reusable cleaning items. I've decreased or fully eliminated ny usage of papertowels, cheap sponges, & disposable Swiffer sheets. As for water usage, though, it's hard to say. I guess it all depends on how much laundry you have and how dirty the items are. This laundry tool will work A LOT of dirt & grime out of linens. If you use it in a 5 gallon bucket, there's not enough space to put many items in at one time. Sometimes you can use the same soapy bucket of water on multiple small batches. Sometimes, it'll be too dirty to reuse. When working with very dirty items, you'll likely want to refill and do at least 1 more round of cleaning. And with very dirty items, more water is better. Then you'll need to wring out all of your items before rinsing the bucket & tool off; then refill with more water to perform the rinse wash. It helps to rinse items under the faucet a bit before performing the rinse wash in the bucket. Sometimes, you'll want to do extra rinse washes to ensure all of the soapy water has been pushed out. Some items (like small plush blankets, bath towels, sweat shirts, bath mats, house slippers, etc.) seem to always need an extra rinse or two. It's really hard for me to say how much water can be saved. Something else to know: At a minimum, you'll need a 5 gallon bucket to avoid splashing water everywhere if you don't have a tub, bin, and/or an ideal area where water can splash freely. A 5 gallon bucket is large enough to wash a medium-thick bath towel and hand towel together. The bottom part of this laundry tool is pretty wide (8 inches), so it would be difficult and less effective to use it in any container smaller than a typical 5 gallon bucket. If the bucket is too narrow, water will not be able to effectively flow through and around linens. The linens will not be able to flow and swish around either. You'd basically just be squashing bunched up fabric under water - similar to if you were to ball up a dirty towel, submerge it under water, and just step on it repeatedly in a simple up and down motion. It's not going to wash very well without more movement and some mechanism to push/pull water through the fibers. Personally, I feel this tool has greatly reduced power & water usage for me. It has also reduced other waste. So it's worth the money I paid for it. I did use a ton of water when I first cleaned some items. But that's because I washed and rinsed them several times to work out built in grime that had accumulated over a very long period. I can now use far less water. (And even lesser than when I was washing items using only my hands.) I can also run a lot of items thru the quick wash cycle of my machine now as opposed to a heavy cycle with extra rinse cycles like I used to. Sometimes, I don't even have to run items through the machine because this tool did a good enough job at cleaning it. I am beyond happy with this purchase. UPDATE (approximately 1 year since purchase and first use): I docked a star because the plastic handle began separating at the seam. It became very wobbly and would've broken apart soon had I not secured it together (and to the pole) with a few layers of duct tape. The bottom part is also a bit wiggly as if it's wearing out at the point where it attaches to the pole. I don't think I'll be able to fix the bottom part once it really wears out. I'm disappointed because I haven't been rough with this thing. It's just wearing out from normal use. I haven't been cleaning my dogs' bedding as often as I used to. After working out all the built in grime, I only need to clean them every 2-3 wks. Plus, my dogs don't use as many items that need to be laundered anymore since I bought them cots that I can just wipe down. Basically, I haven't been using this tool that often and, when I do, I only use it to clean a few items (enough to fill 2/3 of my washing machine basin at most). If someone were to rely on this thing as their primary means for doing laundry, they'd be using it far more often than I've been using it. I would expect it to last closer to 2 yrs with regular use before it started falling apart. To be honest, I wouldn't mind paying a heftier price for this thing if the company would make it so that it would be almost guaranteed to last *at least* a few years with regular use. It's a very effective and very useful tool. Especially for those who don't have a washing machine. It has definitely made a huge difference in my home and my life. I will likely buy it again when the one I have can no longer be used. But I'm gonna search for something better or at least more reasonably priced first. I just hate the thought of having to replace this thing every year, and the big hunks of plastic just piling up landfills. I'm a buy-it-for life kinda person. I should also add that I've come to realize that this tool actually reduces a HUGE amount of water usage. My washing machine recently broke down. I've been relying on this tool for most of my laundry needs while I wait for my machine to be repaired. My everyday clothing doesn't usually get heavily soiled. At worst, I'll get some dirt on my pants and maybe some food/drink stains. Usually, I can reuse the same bucket of soapy water to wash at least 2 bucket loads of clothing. They only need to be rinsed once if I'm careful not to use too much detergent. The rinse water needs to be changed out for each bucket load, but it's still not much. My clothes look, smell, and feel just as clean as if I had run them through my washer. (Sometimes even cleaner!) I trust this tool to get my clothes clean. I no longer feel it's necessary to run my laundry thru a washing machine periodically. This thing does the job very well. Now if only the company would improve upon its quality...

It’s a work out that’s for sure, but works good the connections were a bit sketchy because the pipe didn’t really fit to the funnel thing, but after scraping a bit it works fine and the quality is ok honestly the wash time depends on the type of clothing you’re washing and all in all it’s very durable and I’m actually really satisfied with this purchase and would buy again definitely

First, let's review assembly. You have aluminum tubes that need to be put together with that push in the button then slide. Then the small cone goes over the big cone and you hold the grate piece in the big cone as you screw. People are putting it together wrong. Second, it works pretty good and is much easier on your back and hands. I am 70and my hands hurt from squishing and my back hurts from bending over. So I am happy with this. It could be made sturdier but would cost a lot more. I would pay for a sturdier one if one was sold but I find none on the market. It is plastic so you cannot throw your weight into it. Especially with heavy items like jeans. I find that you need to flip heavy items half way through. Really works best for soft fine knits like T shirts, underware, and socks. I love it though as I do a little load of maybe a pair of pants, shorts, nightgown, and a couple T shirts which is about all I can hang in my shower. Then I prepare another similar load to soak all night for the next day. I think it is designed for a five gallon bucket but I have a real big plastic wash basin I generally use. I have even used a 5 gallon waste basket before. Don't fill the 5 gallon container more than about 2/3 full. Don't overload or too hard on this plastic washer. Pump gently like you are blending like a thick batter. You are mixing the detergent, water and clothes while agitating. I read a review where the reviewer said 50 pumps will do it. If you have something that dirty use an automatic washer! I took off a star because I think I could design an improvement. I wish the actual manufacturer would contact me. I hope mine lasts a long time and that they keep selling this. I don't dread hand washing clothes anymore and my hands and back don't hurt from hand washing clothes. Don't use too much detergent (I only use liquid Tide) and be sure to rinse a couple times to get all the detergent out. This is worth buying if you are a regular laundry hand washer.

This is my third hand washer. This is by far the best quality (hence it is the third!). It is also more efficient as the design pushes and pulls more water through the clothing than most. The handle is much more sturdy than others. I like the way it snaps together rather than screwing. I expect it will last much longer. I wash most of my clothing with this in a five gallon pail and it is a must have when camping! Great item to use along side of this is an extractor or spin washer.

DO NOT BUY!!! CANNOT SCREW HANDLE INTO BASE PIECE!!!! WHAT CRAP!!!! I'll add to this. Perhaps they included the wrong end for one of the handle tubes - if one end of the handle tubes was supposed to have a smaller threaded fitting. Total failure on manufacturing or on supplied parts. Also, the plastic parts had many sharp edges and spots left over from the injection-molding process. I had to file them down so they wouldn't tear my clothes. Very poor quality control and after manufacture inspection. I wanted this to work, so I filed down the threads quite a bit on one end of the handle tubes. Even with that, it only threaded into the bottom part about halfway and I needed to add a large rubber bushing to have it tighten down on the 3 piece bottom section. With that said, after I reworked the bottom assembly, the device itself work well for washing small batches in 5 gallon buckets. It's a shame that a good idea was provided with such bad parts. I fault the seller for knowingly shipping a defective product. Breathing Mobile Washer company - get your act together!!

I love this thing even though it seemed and is a little pricey for such a simple device. It's light weight, well built, durable if you're gentle, and very effective getting clothes clean with hardly any effort. Just take your time. Let the clothes sit in the soapy water, gently plunge a few times, wait, come back, plunge a few more times, etc. There should be plenty of water to move the plunger up and down easily so the clothes move around and hardly any muscle is required. Unlike a washing machine, I like how much control I have. I find heavily soiled clothes come out cleaner because I decide when I'm done cleaning,, not a machine. When I first got it I used a wooden handle and the base kept loosening itself. However when I switched to the handle that came with the device, it has never loosened. I've been using this for about 6 months with no issues. It still works like it did when it was new.

Update: I just got to use it for the 1st time, and IT'S A RETURN FOR ME. I am 5'4" and the handle on this thing is WAY TO TALL/LONG for my arms to plunge it comfortably. Getting it apart should be another TRICK I will not want to ever do again. I found a plastic one like I had before and ordered that. THIS ONE GOES! Not worth the price or the arm pain it will cause. THIS IS WAY WAY OVER PRICED for the cheap plastic you get. The post pieces were harder than >>>> to snap into place and I felt like I was going to have my finger skin underneath it if I DID GET IT together. Had to bug my neighbor to do it for me. My original "Washing Wand" was much denser, hard plastic that just screwed together, but after a couple 2 or 3 years of wear & tear the piece screwed into the "plunger" piece just broke off right there. THIS ONE I don't have much faith in for lasting even a year. AND the price is almost double of what my other one was ... but that's the way of crap we buy from ===== these days. AND THIS ONE is MUCH TALLER, even awkward to use in my small portable washer that sits in the shower. I'm not liking it much and haven't even used it yet.

functionally works well enough but the reviews complaints about how the aluminum handle screws into the threads into the blue plastic base are true. I was able to get them to mate by filing the aluminum flat threads to a more rounded profile and heating the plastic female threads with a hair dryer until a little soft and then was able to get them to join securely. For the price such a mismatch is unreasonable but they do not have much if any competition on this item so apparently no correction is made.

Feels like I have stepped into a Time Machine, this is the most effective and simple way to get your clothes washed, no room in the narrow barge for a washing machine and have always hand washed on extended trips, so after a bit of research I realized what I had been missing out on, yes you can make your own with a standard plunger but its not the same, this "Dolly " has been well thought out in the way it moves the water through the clothes in a suction and release method, was totally shocked that something so simple could work so well, The item is well made and its extendable pole is great allowing you to use it in the sink as well as the bucket method, fill up { sink or bucket } with hot water add and disperse your detergent { use the plunger } add clothes etc and plunge away, within minutes you are done, rinse and hang...simple, bit on the expensive side but built to last, handy storage bag, love it, a hundred times better than hand washing , great results even on stubborn, stained work wear.

Easy assembly, long enough to not strain a tall persons back using it, lightweight, VERY effective in cleaning clothing, stores well, very durable. Honestly couldn't find a single thing I didn't like about it. Bought a second one because my sibling borrowed it to try it for themselves and refused to return it. It's that good. 100/100 score.

I haven’t used this device yet. I bought it in case of power outages so have not had to use it yet. It is well made and feels sturdy and feel a lot happier knowing that I have a way of washing my smalls and other clothes if my washing machine stops working for whatever reason. This removes the need for scrubbing by hand which is time consuming and tiring. It does it for you which is what I wanted.
