Does this need to clip onto the back box, or does the faceplate itself sandwich this in place between it and the wall?

There is s distinct design fault whereby it is only the pressure exerted by the faceplate that keeps this in place. Looks stylish until you actually try to use - avoid item and look at something different. Video on Amazon website suggests that there is a lip which accepts faceplate. Such lip is non existent

What is the thickness?

2gang 13amp socket will fit into a 25mm galvanise back box,and pertrube approximately 10 mm when fix. Hope this helps

How can you fit them without unwiring the socket? (As advertisd)

Yes I did. Unscrew the socket plates from the wall with the wires still intact then slide the surround over the socket plate at an angle,it can be tricky but with patience and perseverance it will go over it. Once it’s over hold the surround against the wall. Offer up the socket plate and screws back to original position then screw in place. Hope this helps.

Works well for my purpose. I wallpapered the bedroom and tore the paper around the lightswitch. Fitted this to cover the mistake and problem solved. I wouldn't say it was particularly easy to instal as I had to get my son, an electrician, to do it but I'm sure any competent DIY-er would have no issue.

Good Product Easy to fit

I have been looking for finger switch plates and have tried quite a few but they are all a bit flimsy these are much better on first appearances they look as though may have trouble fitting them as they do not flex but the aperture is just large enough to get the light switch or plug socket through at a slight angle providing there is enough cable to allow you to twist the switch or socket through the plate I have now fitted them to all the light switches and outlet sockets and gives a nice finish
