Excellent! 10/10
This was an excellent purchase! This product is brand new. Everything works perfectly. Soft keyboard. Perfect fingerprint reader. Not a single scratch. Perfect rubber seals.

Love my New MacBook!
I love this MacBook! I always wanted one with the Touch Bar, and don't use my computer too much outside of Netflix and shopping. The battery doesn't last long, but I didn't expect much from a a $400 computer. It works great and looks like new. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a computer.

Refurbished electronics will break down faster, and repairs are next to impossible
I bought this item refurbished, and due to an issue with the included charger, the laptop shorted out and stopped working within 8 months (beyond when they were accepting returns, naturally). Buying any electronics refurbished is inherently risky since they've already got years of use, so I can forgive it breaking down. What I CAN'T forgive is the process for getting it repaired (which, since it's refurbished, is a pretty important factor). First Issue: most electronic repair shops don't fix Apple products, so you need to go to a specialized iRepair store to get it fixed. I live in a fairly isolated city without such a store, and the nearest one is about a 2-hour drive from me. Already a pain. Once I bring it in, they tell me the short impacted the motherboard, which has apparently been welded into the laptop and can only be removed and replaced by an even more specialized person, so they have to ship it to a different location, which adds an extra 2-4 weeks to the process. Once this new location got it, though, they realized the motherboard was actually damaged beyond repair, and all they could do was recover my data. Easy, right? No. Thanks to the hard drive ALSO being welded into the motherboard, it's yet another specialized repair to recover any data, which ends up costing me an additional $600 and still leaves me with no laptop. The alternative is to retroactively buy increased iCloud storage, which isn't helpful advice at this point, and would STILL require that I buy another Apple product for recovery. So they're going to make money off of me for this break. To recap, my data essentially got held hostage thanks to Apple designing this laptop to be as difficult to repair as possible to ensure nobody else can do it. How is any of this benefiting the consumer at all? I don't really care about the scratch resistance or screen quality (the screen for the laptop I received had multiple points of damage that led to discoloration in the display, in case you're curious) if it stops working quickly and Apple's gonna charge me an arm and a leg to keep using it! Personally, I think this experience was kind of my last straw with Apple products in general. This product is certainly cheap for an Apple laptop, but thanks to a design focused on making repairs as difficult as possible in order to require you to use Apple's repair services, you will pay more in the long run, be it with time or with money. You can get a brand-new laptop of the same quality - often with better RAM and compatible with more software - for the same price from basically any other company. Honestly, just buy something else, cuz after this laptop breaks on you, you're gonna have to anyway.

Nice machine - but they supplied a bad charger with it
Nice machine. Great price. It was a bit dirty when I got it. Nothing a little Windex couldn't take care of. One issue I had, which is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, is that occasionally it would lose a USB-C port. It only has 4 of them, and no other ports. Resetting NVRam got it back, but it was becoming a pain. Then I realized the port that was dropping was always the port the charger was plugged into. A little research on Apple's site told me the charger that came with the machine was too strong - 87W instead of 61W. I ended up buying a new charger. This solved the issue. I have not dropped a USB port since using the new charger. I don't know the if the issue was it was too strong, or just malfunctioning. But I wish I hadn't had to shell out more money to make this machine work correctly.

Arrived in great condition!
I was honestly nervous ordering a refurbished Mac since I know it can be a hit or a miss, but I'm very happy with how things turned out! There are a few small, minor scratches, but I expected a bit of wear and tear. The laptop did arrive dead, but that didn't bother me much. The touchpad and keyboard are in great condition, the charger works, the screen is bright, colors are more vibrant, and it's just ten times better than my old MacBook Air. It's also lighter, which is great because I wanted a laptop that was a bit more portable. Overall, I'm very happy with the product!

Hands down the best MacBook value
Full disclosure, when i made my purchase back in Sep /Oct, the price was $1449; $70 lower than today's post but I believe this is still the absolute best value that exists (until the 2nd or 3rd gen M1s come out), and here's why: • Current M1 versions lack support, compatibility and stability. Resetting to factory apparently bricks the system, and half the programs are running on an emulator. This is why Apple has not released them in their flagship models yet (ie 16" Pro) ... too many bugs to work out. I felt purchasing an M1 at this time would be like being a free "beta tester" for Apple; no thanks, I'll wait until everything's solid again. • Core i7 upgrade is just negligible. Evaluating online benchmarks as well as real-world use tests seemed to indicate that this i5 works practically identically to the more expensive i7. Paying for the i7 version would be like throwing bad money after good, if you know what I mean. • 128Gb and 256Gb are too little, but 512Gb is perfect for most people and purposes, and if more space is necessary, then an external HD was probably always in the future no matter what, so why pay $300 extra for only 500 more Gbs integrated? My received unit was most likely a floor model based on its battery time and cord condition, which is perfect, and it feels like brand new. Delivery was spot on time. Can't say enough about how well it works and fulfills all needs and purposes at such a higher level than my previous laptop, a 2017 Air 13". Highly recommend if you can get it at such a reasonable price point. This review will be valid until probably early 2022, at which time, or shortly thereafter, the new M1s will blow this one out of the water... and I'll have to upgrade again... {sigh}.

The MacBook itself is fine. The power supply provided was defective and kept switching off.
